IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
Hi OOT,
I am in the market for a new bed frame and mattress combo, so naturally as a college student IKEA seems like a viable option. I'm particulary interested in this specific combination if anyone has tried them but any experience with IKEA bedroom stuff in general would be appreciated as well. Here is the combo that I am looking to get: Bedframe: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29838956 Mattress: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70094364 So how'd i do? |
Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
I bought the exact same bed and mattress last year and have had no problems with it. If you buy the navy blue duvet cover/pillow case set with the white stripes we could be bed brothers.

For about $500, you could get a good queen size bed from a major chain retailer. It will come with a boxspring and frame, and should be more comfortable than IKEA, but will not have the fancy frame.

I got that bed in a full with SULTAN HAMNÖ and I like it a lot. I have sleep issues so it took me a little while to get used to the new bed and environment, but I sleep great on it now.
Also, the floor model had some lame nightstand with wheels on it that are $80 a pop. I bought these and they match and are pretty much the perfect height for the bed. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3...turept9.th.jpg |

Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
I bought an IKEA mattress (the most expensive one at the store) about 8 years ago and thought it was great. I bought a cheap IKEA frame and no boxspring.

Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
I have pretty much the same bed with a solid backboard and a similar mattress, it was one of the stiffer ones but not super hard that if I remember right was in that price range, I can't find the receipts.
I've had it for about 9 months and have been very satisfied. |
Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
My ex girlfriend had bought a combo nightstand/bed frame with matress from IKEA, I found it unbarable to sleep in, and had to be super drunk or tired to get to sleep. Keep in mind though, I'm 35 and sleep on a $1200 matress, so if you're in college this might be a decent choice.

Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
I sell mattresses for a living, and pesronally would not get this mattress. That's just me, but I don't think (and in my experience, I know) that these cheap memory foam mattresses will hold up very well. For my money, go to a mattress store, and you should be able to find a better quality mattress at a comparable price.
So many people are lured by "memory foam" anymore. I just don't think that they are a very good choice for most people. Especially these knockoffs of the Tempurpedic. All foam mattress that will hold up are VERY expensive to produce. Your asking for trouble, IMHO, if you go cheap in this variety of mattress. Get an innerspring with a pillowtop. You'll be happier. That being said, I think that Tempurpedic makes a good quality mattress. If you were looking at those, this post would definately have different advice. |

Never had a better pillow Dream Bed [/ QUOTE ] I don't know which pillow you are talking about from this link, but if it's the double down around pillow, I have to agree. We used to carry them at my store, but corporate decided to drop pacific coast all together (which I hated...they make great products), but not before I got my hands on a couple of them. I love it, but they're starting to break down (it's been about 3 years, so I feel like they've done a good job). |
Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
midwestkc,
maybe you can answer this. how important is a boxspring? i'm shopping for a new bed and mattress, and i'm considering getting a platform bed. since i've always used a boxspring previously i was wondering if i need to get a better mattress to compensate. |
Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
Eh...not really. If you were just wanting to put your new mattress on an existing box springs, I'd tell you to not do that, unless it was only a couple (meaning 1-3) years old. However, a platform bed will do fine with most mattresses anymore. That being said, I wouldn't necessarily skimp on a mattress set (though I may be biased) as you will definitely get better sleep and longer use out of a better mattress. Don't worry about the box springs, though.

Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
I am a very satisfied customer. For some reason IKEA isn't always thought of as pure quality products, but that's just utter nonsense. IKEA brought me all of the most price worthy stuff I ever bought.
Hopen is an incredibly classy frame imo, I really advice you to try the frame out at the warehouse, and I'd probably put one of these on each side of the bed. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80028552 |
Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
I own the malm bed frame and am very happy with it.

Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
i got a very very similar malm frame from there and one of the most expensive mattresses they have. ehh, it kinda sucks. i just got back from vegas and am actually enjoying sleeping in it for once, but normally i hate it and find myself nestling into a trench in the middle of the mattresss, plus the frame squeaks like hell.
add in the fact that they are non-standard sizes and i would go with a regular bed. only get the ikea ones if you need something low and small that won't take over the room. |
Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
Wow.. I totally disagree about the Malm. My mattress isn't Ikea--maybe that's the difference.
BTW, anyone doing anything ikea related should check out this web site: http://ikeafans.com/ . It's really creepy that it exists, but it's helpful as hell. |
Re: IKEA beds and mattresses... any satisfied customers
We have the same bed frame and we've moved with it twice and it still goes together and it solid. I can't comment on the mattress though. I bought a $2k mattress when I was flush with internet donkey cash and we've been living with that. I haven't been impressed with Ikea mattresses though when I've been in the store. The local furniture warehouse has better mattresses for equal or less money than the Ikea ones, and they're much closer. Just throw out or craigslist the box spring and frame, there's a reason they give them to you for free.
