Stars HU etiquette
Id like to clear this up as the situation keeps arising for me and others on Stars where someone is playing a fish HU and demands to continue playing HU when you sit down - with no indication from the fish that they want that. (Obviously if two players request HU its natural to respect it).
I would like the great and good of HSNL to offer their opinion on this so that either the games are respected and everyone takes their turn, or certain players who demand it as their right and whine in chat can be told to stfu and stop making it obvious to the fish whats going on. |
Re: Stars HU etiqutte
Agree with you 100%. When someone's playing HU with a fish and I sit, and they say HU please I always ask the fish, and keep playing unless fish says something. Fish are in short supply at 10/20+.

Re: Stars HU etiqutte
I'll only leave when they both request HU. It's annoying when someone is trying to hog a fish.
|
Re: Stars HU etiqutte
i agree but the rare occasion where you get a fish HU, you'd like the respect to continue as well, espec after theyve taken you for a buyin or so already
|
Re: Stars HU etiqutte
Imo it comes down to whatever youd want if you had a fish HU.
If your happy for others to join then do it yourself. |

If you wanna play fish hu go sit on a hu table at FTP... |
Re: Stars HU etiqutte
From the [censored] thread-
/I always just ask both players. I never request hu and for ppl to leave unless I kno the guy I am playing prefers hu. I think doing anything else is just dumb imo. |

Re: Stars HU etiqutte
Im not playing 10/20 NL but prefer HU alot on stars and I expect players to sit out when I ask it to be heads up. I also do the same when I sit in on a game and any one person requests it. Since stars doesnt offer HU tables (bastards) I think if one player wants to play HU he shouldn't be forced not to. Also, if the "fish" didnt want to play HU he wouldn't of sat down. If the other person requests it not to be HU and wants to play a 6max/FR then other players should be able to play. If fish is indifferent/unresponsive it shoud stay HU IMHO.
Again this is at lower stakes and mostly PLO where the fish are plentiful. |
Re: Stars HU etiqutte
my friend tjbentham sat in when bet2win was playing a total unknown probable huge fish, who expressed no interest at all in keeping it hu and continued to play 3handed. bet2win demanded hu repeatedly in chat and when it wasnt respected he in started going crazy and calling tjb lots of things and insulting his integrity. wtf?
then some hu-hitandrunning-scumbag who has not shown any integrity or respect for hu etiquette himself on many occasions, "ifihaditall", was actually backing bet2win up on this ridiculous claim that he has some sort of right to play fish hu just because he got there first and asked. they went off in chat for ages to tjb like a couple of faux-selfrighteous scumbags looking out for their own interest |

Re: Stars HU etiqutte
cool... so im not going insane. Who are the worst at doing this to y'all? Had a spat with Vaga_Lion today which prompted this thread and Bet2Win always does it as well... oh and Sweetluvin called me a douche after i left and then he and Vaga proceeded to play the fish 3 handed on another table lol. Tried to raise the issue later and said id post here but they went kinda quiet, perhaps they will come and put a case.

Re: Stars HU etiqutte
Everyone in this thread,
Email stars and ask them to add HU NL tables. |
Re: Stars HU etiquette
My attitude has always been that online games are essentially public. I remember Bobby Hoff getting very mad with Prahlad back in the day on UB after being asked to leave. In a casino it would be bizarre to ask someone not to play unless the two players had agreed to play heads up -- a totally different situation.
"Uh, Mr. Gift of Gab, I'd rather you didn't sit down so I can take this guy's money myself, and anyway, I saw him first. Dibs!" That said, I often respect these requests anyway, though I think they're pathetic and have never asked someone to leave my game. |

[/ QUOTE ] Hi Im Vaga_Lion, I had been playing that guy HU for quite some time before you got there Jackal, and had already dropped $5k to him and wanted a chance to win it back. I always respect it when I sit and someone else asks for HU, I just expected to be treated the same. Both times you sat in the fish sat out - obv he wanted HU too. It was just frustrating because everyone else was respecting the HU request apart from you, it's just too bad that Stars doesnt have HU tables. |

Re: Stars HU etiqutte
thats not really what happened in my opinion... when i sat we played 10-15 hands 3 handed with Vaga protesting he wanted hu the whole time. The guy sat out once in the middle and so did i, then the game resumed for some more hands and then he left. The guy is a reg 25/50 fish and clearly doesnt care if its hu or full ring as he plays both and tends to only play at a table for a short time before going to anoher one anyway. Assuming he left because he wanted hu and 'couldnt speak english' is fanciful at best, it could just as easily be because what he though was a 'friendly' poker game had turned into people arguing over who was going to win his money.
In short i will continue to respect any HU that both players request as that is the general consensus on acceptable behaviour here. So, if you want to play HU pls go to a HU table on ftp or find someone who wants to play you HU, as far as Im concerened all that happened that day was that you started a game and got stuck before anyone else joined. Tough luck. Also pls dont go on about it in chat in front of the other players when its clear im not leaving... if i have to turn my chat off to ignore you its going to make respecting legitimate HU requests much harder. |

Re: Stars HU etiqutte

well then whats the prob with giving and getting respect in that situation? [/ QUOTE ] the problem is its completely unrealistic and unreasonable to expect it - even when you are playing someone HU and have agreed to its hard enough with all the shortstacking retards who dont even request legitimate requests. Why would all the HSNL players agree to this code if theres a bunch of others who dont? |
Re: Stars HU etiquette
I always thought of hu on stars or UB as basically launching a nuke. Both players have to agree and turn their key for it to happen. The only exception I'd see from that is if there are no other games at that level going, then I'd prob sit anyway. People freak out when you sit in when they 'demand' heads up; they act like you are punching them in the face. Turns out all you are doing is playing poker and if they can't beat the game then too bad.

Re: Stars HU etiquette
very simple, if two people request hu, respect it.
if only one person wants hu, it's not a hu match. /thread |
Re: Stars HU etiquette
greg, you shortstack 10/20 and 25/50 right? If so, way to go on leading the ettiqute debate!
|
Re: Stars HU etiquette
if you could attack my points, you would
since you cant, you attack me. typical 2p2 donkey obligatory: hu? |
Re: Stars HU etiquette
I agree with Ansky, if one of the players is indifferent I'll sit.
|
Re: Stars HU etiquette
unless both players are willing to sitout when u sit in to stop you from playing, i tell the reg to get f4cked. ADZ does this constantly and it annoys me a lot. IF the fish sits out like vaga said, you should quit instantly and apologise even for interrupting their game even though someone said hu. People who insist on trying to sit in like they have the 'right' to play on a table when two people have agreed to hu is super bs. When a regular tries to use another regulars etiquette so they can isolate fish its sooo shady. Only situation i might reconsider is if the reg was stuck A LOT.
