Pokerstars freezing

I don't see any other posts on this, so I guess its just me...but anyways...

Everytime I play pokerstars, it freezes after about 3 minutes. It always come back after a hand or two is lost, and then I have no more problems. I am running PT and HUD. I have resorted to playing micro for a the first few hands, get the freeze done, then play regular. It doesn't matter if I have one table or six open, it freezes then comes back. This started 2 weeks ago or so, and I have no problem with Full Tilt. I set taskmanager priority to high, but no solution. Any suggestions?

Same problem here. Freeze after ~3 min, takes ~10 seconds while my HD is active, then goes back to normal.

I have the problem with freezing but its only for about 5 seconds. I 6-7 table cash games right now. My friend also had this problem but it would freeze enough for him to time out. I never had this problem when I would play tournaments though so Im not sure what causes it.

I'd like to add that the freezing also seemed to coincide with a recent Pokertracker update, although being computer ignorant I don't know if this has any possible relevance. Perhaps someone who doesn't use Pokertracker could weigh in.

I have the same problem. I let PS know about it, but so far I have just gotten a form letter on internet connection problems that seemed no help.

My symptoms to be clear are:
1. Always and only happens within first 6-10 hands after log in.
2. Never happens again, until the next log in.
3. The hand history just says I didn't respond in time. Not that I was disconnected.
4. This started with the last PS update. I have not updated PokerTracker in a while. And it occurs whether that is running or not.
5. I have the same computer and internet connection I've always had.

It's still playable, but a big hand in the first orbit is a gamble with the no all-in protection.

Any ideas to help would be great, as I fear PS has none.

I have the same exact thing happen

I don't time out, but I pause for a few seconds about 5 minutes after starting my games

I wonder if this is some sort of bot-check

I'm getting it using PT or not. Mostly I get back in time for my action, occasionally not

Same thing here, but I don't time out.

It's not PT, the last update I downloaded was a few months ago.

I cleared a bunch of stuff off my computer incase I was having memory issues, but that wasn't it.

A similar thing has happened to me in the last few days. After a bit the tables freeze, then my connection appears as 30% or lower, then after about a minute it returns to normal. I've been timed out as a result a couple times, then it goes back to normal. 99% to 100% connection and no freezing. I run PT and AceHud too.

Re: Pokerstars freezing

Similar, but I assumed it was a connection issue.

Last night I'm dealt AA and I click "raise" and....

The button disappeared for a while as my tables froze and then came back as the audible time-out warning was going off and the hand continued. Fortunately, I got my raise in.

This has also been happening to me lately. I thought it was a connection problem but was able to ping pokerstars with no problems while it was freezing.

I thought it was the same as party when the buttons disappeared, on ps the buttons seem to take up some resources or something and i only get lag when sometimes i click on one.

I'm having the same problems. It started happening for me right after the second most recent update. When there was a new update I was hopeful that it fixed the freezing. No such luck. Like the others here, it seems to occur when I click on one of the action buttons - the hard drive runs and I'm frozen temporarily. I'm usually back right after the 8 or 12 second warnings. I can't recall ever missing a hand because of it. I've never really kept track of it but it doesn't happen all the time and I can't remember if it only happens once per session or not.

Re: Pokerstars freezing

This has happened to me for months, and there have been countless updates since it started happening. Support were useless so I just gave up complaining. When I first start up PS software, it will happen after the first hand that I paid to play, i.e. if I paid a blind or ante. It doesn't happen after observed hands. It also happens in play money hands, so I used to always sit at a play money table and play 1 hand before moving into a proper game. Once it happens once, it won't happen again until you shut down the software and start it up again. For me, the pause is long enough that I will time out at the start of the next hand only if it is a speed table.

I thought I was imagining this problem until I saw this thread. I'm not sure it happens within the first 6-10 hands, though.

has anyone checked whether this happens in observed games / games where you're sitting out? that would be an easy (but still lame) work-around.

it'd be good if more people emailed.

Hi everyone:

We think we may have identified the cause of this and don't expect it to re-occur. If it does continue happening, please either email [email protected] with the subject line "PokerStars Freezing - attention HostJacob" or PM me here to let me know and we'll look into it further.

Re: Pokerstars freezing

I'm having terrible problems tonight. Played earlier in the day and everything was fine.

Cleaned up my computer a bit and it continued happening.

I am not running PT or HUD, I am multitabling.

When I bring up a table, everything freezes, usually I don't time out on any tables, but it did happen several times.

I don't use the images, and when a player takes action the little box goes blank for a moment.

If the seat is empty, there's just the empty box, no words in it like usual.

When I attempt to "Cascade Tables", everything freezes like crazy, and at least one table won't cascade, will remain in a corner.

They responded back by asking for portions of my PokerStars Program Files.

I sent them what they asked for.

I reinstalled PokerStars over my existing files and it seems to be working OK now.

Re: Pokerstars freezing

I think HostJacob and Stars deserve a lot of credit for addressing this and apparently fixing it so quickly.

How long did they have much worse lag at FT?
How long did Party deny that their disappearing-buttons bug even existed?

Most sites seem to have troubles even replicating the problem in the first place so they can't figure out what is wrong.
Stars saw the thread, heard the complaints, apparently didn't respond to e-mails with too many responses of, "it's your problem, not ours" and actually seem to have fixed it.

Merrell Fan 07-05-2007 02:01 PM

Re: Pokerstars freezing

After I sent them the requested info, they emailed back saying they'd forward the info to the tech dept., from whom I've not yet heard anything.

I reinstalled on my own, I don't know if they've done anything.

But, as always I think their support is excellent, and I'm happy it's working now.

agreed, they handled this very well imo. it definitely helped that they could see that this was a widespread problem by looking at this thread.
