$215 for a used XBOX 360 Core system? Deal or No Deal

Is this a good deal for the Core system? I sold my Wii last week and I'm looking to get the XBOX 360. Do I want the Core system or the upgrades? This comes with a controller and cables.

I plan on playing sports games and halo all online. Maybe some other good RPG games if I run into any. I am not trying to spend a lot and wonder what else I would need.
I am guessing I will need the XBOX Live, a headset, and probably another controller. I guess I will also need some sort of memory device. THis is getting expensive isn't it.

THanks in advance, also the kid is like 15 I'm sure I can get him down lower... Muuhhh HAAHHAHAHHA

You might want to consider an Xbox 360 instead.

If you decide to get it, make sure that the console isn't banned from Xbox Live before you buy.

That really isn't too great a deal. If you're happy to go used, you can get loaded premium systems (multiple controllers, games, etc) for $400 off Craigslist. If you want new, you can even get some decent premium bundles for $400 online.

Ditto to what fiske said though - make sure the console isn't banned from Live. Halo 3 alone resulted in the nuking of hundreds if not thousands of consoles, and 15 year old kid hits the demographic spot on.

I personally would not buy a 360 until the new chips get used. Way too many 360s are dying right now and MS support is horrible.

Get the Elite. I've not heard anything bad about the chipsets or the overheating problems that have plagued the core/premium editions.

Their support really isn't that bad.

I found a used Premium system and the guy is asking 300, and it comes with Lost Planet.

What should I check for when testing the system?

Make sure it's hooked up when you goto see it and have him log into live. If he can't log into live then take off the faceplate and check to see if the tamper-proof stick has been cut or removed. If he hasn't taken the console apart, it's probably not banned.

Get the premium edition at least. You'll be kicking yourself for not getting the hard drive. Tons of free (and pay) content online, as well as a huge space for all your save games.
