Internship open...

Alright, I'm finally moving on the internship. Right now it is open to everyone including those who can only work remotely. I'm sure it will be a significant advantage to be in NYC but at this point it's not required. PM me for an email address and then email me a cover letter/resume which I will forward on.

To be clear, the internship is not with SM. It is with a microcap value oriented hedge fund in NYC. The position would be an assistant to the analyst but I would expect some exposure to the portfolio manager also.

SM and I reserve the right to use you if the need arises but the primary arrangement will be with the hedge fund.

Didn't he already post about this? I might be wrong, but I thought I saw this mentioned somewhere else. Do we need another thread?

It's buried in my trip report thread. I don't mind if you lock this though.

Oh, I guess that's why I couldn't recall where I saw it. I won't lock this, I just wanted to make sure SM hadn't made a thread saying the same thing.

Re: Internship open...

Krishan, any idea what kind of time commitment this internship requires? The reason I ask is I am in my senior year of school (undergrad), and this appears to be exactly what I will be looking for after graduation. However, being that I am in school, I can't work a full-time affair. Also, are they long-only or is there any information about their hedging?

Thanks

at a different time/point in my life, this would have been attractive.

What are they looking for? I'm only going to be a Junior undergrad, but would be willing to relocate to NYC and work, even if it's for a year or so.

What would a strong resume include?

yeah is it a problem if I still have a year to go before graduation?

Sigh, I'd love to do this but I have no qualifications at all. *tear drop*

I don't believe it will be full time. Certainly should double check. Off the top of my head I think they are 80 long/30 short but most of the work is done on the long side.

I think they are looking for someone with strong qualifications. This is a little different than the position with SM where he was really looking for someone to show the ropes to. My only finance background was an accounting class at the local community college. And I wasn't even finished. My impression is the hedge fund will be looking for someone who can immediately contribute without the hand holding SM did for me.

I have never applied for a real job before but how do I write a cover letter if I do not the name of the person [or company] I am supposed to be writing to?

Did you recently get this hedge fun job after SM's tutoring? Or before? If after, details on how you got it would be great.

Dates are probably ASAP. I don't believe this will be a full time commitment and I expect you can work remotely. Living in NYC is not a requirement.

Hi folks. Just a thought here on this opportunity. I know the guy who runs this fund and I have a lot of respect for him. I was actually (and remain) an original investor in his fund. I think its a no brainer for a young person...worst case is you have a good resume builder.

The reason I haven't listed the website or company name is I don't want you guys to barrage him directly with emails saying, "I'm the best mother [censored] for this job!" which is what you would do if you are good at getting jobs. So I'm going to leave it out for now.

I've decided it would help if you gave me some background on your poker experience. If you emailed me a resume, shoot me a couple lines including date started, current limits, total hands, total winnings, etc...
