Movie TR: 1408 (worst movie of my life)
This post contains NO spoilers
The second the lights went dark and the movie began I told my friend next to me that this movie is gonna suck, I proceeded to say it about 6 more times during the course of the movie. The movie is about a horror story writer who visits the most haunted houses, graveyards, hotels, and then writes stories about them. Eventually he hits up room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel. Thats when things get bad, Im not gonna spoil it but I almost feel like I should, and save anybody stupid enough to go after reading this 7.50. Basically "scary things" happen, (there are a couple of things that make you jump). And the plot goes super crazy, I was sure I called the ending only to find that what I thought was the ending, isnt. The movie does have some other plot, including a short story about the Mans torn apart family including his Wife, daughter, and Dad. That part was a nice sidetrack from the majority of the horrible movie. When the movie rolled the credits I remember thinking "wtf just happened? The movie just ended and I still dont know what just happened" Its like the movie tries to throw a twist in, but the twist makes the rest of the story uncomprehsible. tldr -Movie Blows -Some moments that make you jump -Story tries to get a little crazy at the end, but is done horribly, I had no clue wtf was going on for the majority of the movie. Yes, this Movie is worse than both Norbit, and Game Over. Lines from Rottentomatoe.com that I agree w/ "The movie attempts a false ending that doesn't quite work; the picture feels prolonged, dragged out, and its ennui lessens the impact of some of its more terrifying fillips." "In this mix of recycled scares and half-hearted twists, the only real fright is the sight of an interesting actor wasting his talents in yet another mediocre movie." |

Re: Movie TR: 1408 (worst movie of my life)
Speaking of rottentomatoes.com, this movie was given a 75% rating of freshness. Since it got a pretty high rating and was based on a Steven King short story, I decided to check it out.
It was worse than I had hoped, given the rating, but it wasn't as bad as you're making it out to be. The obvious "fake ending" which you somehow fell for wasn't a trifle plot twist but an actual plot point. It's purpose was to show the viewer that the room was willing to play dirty. You'll never know if you're safe from it. I got the feeling the actual ending was trying to produce this feeling of uncertainty (kind of like Chase with the Sopranos). Unfortuntely, it came all came up a little short in this movie. Furthermore, the original fake ending had an aura much like a false awakening, a theme that's been explored by several Steven King stories. Anyways, while the movie was definitely lackluster, and IMO not worth the semi-high rating on rottentomatoes, I didn't think it was all that bad and surely better than most of the crappy movies that make up the horror genre. |

That's a GREAT mentality for a double date.
Walk in and complain about how things SUCK... over and over again. That's a great strategy. |

I was never planning on seeing this because the short story was very meh, IMO.
In related, probably disappointing news, check out the casting for The Mist. Andre Braugher as Norton? Marcia Gay Harden as Mrs. Carmody? |

Where the hell does a movie cost $7.50? [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, but I don't get it. That seems like a normal price to me, and if you're a student you can get it cheaper. I don't think I've ever paid more than $8.00 for a movie. If you really think that you can't see any first run film for under $7.50 then you're really out of touch with everything east of CA. |

When I go to an event, of any kin d, I don't enjoy having that one person with me that tries his hardest to ruin the mood. It's bad to do it in the begining of a movie, even worse to do it during the movie. Is NY still east of CA? It's $10 a ticket here, and that's not even in the city. |
Re: Movie TR: 1408 (worst movie of my life)
ya movies less then $10 means ya'll are spoiled.
also if you didn't like norbit then there's no way i'm going to take your review seriously. the real question is how you ended up seeing a movie with two girls... |

Re: Movie TR: 1408 (worst movie of my life)
LFS,
Its not like I see a ton of movies, but even primetime weekend movies in Nashville cost only $9.00 through Fandango.com, and that's including their fee. I don't see how Butt [censored], Iowa, or Jackson, Mississippi, or any of the rest of the country would be more than that. That goes double if you buy at the theater and skip fandango's charge. instead of buying online. EDIT: By "everything east of CA" I obviously meant to exclude places like NY and Boston, so just take it to mean, "The vast majority of the US." EDIT 2: One day computers will be able to recognize naughty words. |
Re: Movie TR: 1408 (worst movie of my life)
Wow, 'Buttfuck, Iowa' has no censor problems whatsoever. Nice find, RDH!

Re: Movie TR: 1408 (worst movie of my life)
I saw 1408 a couple of nights ago. If you claim it's the worst movie of your life- you've probably watched under 10 movies.
I found the beginning pretty [censored]' scary. It trailed off at the end though. Guaranteed a girl will be all over you, burying her eyes in your shoulder, if you take her to see this movie (unless you have your arms crossed saying "I TOLD YOU THIS WAS GOING TO SUCK" six times). After the show, I heard quite a few guys admit they were scared. It's not a stellar movie, it couldn't keep up with its own pace, but it's FAR from the worst movie ever. I don't even remember the last horror movie where I was actually scared. So, the movie accomplished its goal. |
