only been here for a few weeks.
what is the story? will people start using another awful video instead? vanilla-ice-rolling?

In mid 2007, an internet phenomenon known as "Rick Rolling" began to spread rapidly. "Rick Rolling" consists of tricking internet surfers into clicking on hyperlinks routed to Astley's video of "Never Gonna Give You Up" [1]. One hyperlink frequently used is a classic MTV version of "Never Gonna Give You Up" posted on YouTube on November 27, 2006. As of June 20, 2007, the YouTube video had been viewed over 1.1 million times [2]. The phenomenon also spread to the Urban Dictionary, as evidenced by the multiple "Rick Roll" entries with similar definitions [3]. Several popular TV shows have utilized the Rickroll including Carson Daly on June 21, 2007.

I think it started on some gaming forum. It used to be duckrolling, but morphed into rickrolling and then spread across the internet.

there was a radio station, every day they would ask for one request at a certain time and no matter what song the caller asked for they would play rick astley- never gonna give you up. and rickrolling was born
