Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
Cliffs Notes: They've got me surrounded. Save yourself.
I will preface by saying I rent a condo from a good friend who made me a deal. But I'm moving out soon. In part because of the cockroaches. So 5 minutes ago... I finish taking a shower. Just as I turn off the water and pull open the curtain, a cockroach scurries behind the toilet. Only he comes toward me instead of running away (He knows no fear!). He decides to hide behind the toilet brush and plunger. I keep my eye on him as I continue to dry off and envision myriad methods to end his misery. He inches closer. The time is now. I push past the plunger to get a sight-line, then seize the toilet brush (limited weaponry options + I refuse to take my eyes of these bastards even for a second). Just as I've armed myself, my foe escapes between the floorboard and shower tiles. http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/6...bafroomre2.jpg So I think these little bumps on my shower tiles may be the result of a giant colony of cockroaches which may or may not have nefarious plans. http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/6...g028gp7.th.jpg http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4...g029wr2.th.jpg Plz to be sharing your suggestions/experiences. And send help. |
Re: Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
I hate to break it to you, but you haven't found their base. You haven't even found a forward listening post.
Face it, they're smarter than we are, and they'll be around long after we're gone. If you'd killed that one, you would have only helped their cause by weeding out their version of a Downie. I mean... what self-respecting roach is dumb enough to be spotted and killed by a human? |

Re: Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
All you can do is spray raid along the sides of your walls and in any openings you can find. A lot of it. Open some windows to air out the smell and it should help a lot. The day after we did this, 3-4 of them came out of hiding, presumably to get away from the Raid, but we haven't seen any since. That said, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go nuts one day and just take a sledgehammer to any potential location for these bastards. I hate them so much.

Greg P,
Are you still living in the same place up by PV Mall where we met last year? If so, the cockroaches will move on soon enough...IIRC your cupboards were empty and the only thing in your refrigerator to eat were condiments. |
Re: Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
Re: Fumigation, RAID, etc.
I've lived here for about a year and a half. My friend/landlord hired a pest control service at my request a couple of months after I moved in. They spray every month or so, but it basically just means that I find carcasses instead of assailants. |

Their motivations are unclear. |
Re: Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
When I first moved to Kingman, AZ; we moved into a house that has a seperate garage. In the garage were a pile of old flattened cardboard boxes. We went to move them and out scurried about 100 sewer roaches, you know the "big" ones. OMG, I was so grossed out.
So we got the Terminex guy out and he sprayed every month for 5 years and I must say they actually left and moved on somewhere else.....when we moved at the 5 year mark, there wasn't one to be seen. Weird cuz I heard once you have them they never leave. T |

Re: Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
Forget pesticides and terminators. Get a lizard, or several, and let them take care of the problem. I recommend geckos depending on the climate where you are, but many small lizards will get the best of the cockroaches.

Re: Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
i haven't read any replies but i'll give you my take on it
i just moved into a new place on the first of this month, and the people who lived here before me were total dirtbag hippies who left all their [censored], and i mean all of it, trash, food, dishes, furniture, etc. i hired a cleaning crew to come in who compared it to some of the worst frat houses they have ever seen, in terms of sheer filth and grime, obv we had a roach problem also because of this after paying 500 for the cleaning and another 100 for roach killing products nothing worked in fact it seemed like there were more. finally i decided to call terminix and see what they can do. The guy came over, he checked it out, told me i had 'german roaches' i guess there are 5 or 6 types of them and thats the one i had, and told me he knew what to do. They didn't use the bombs, or fumigate, he said that is really old school and the stuff they do is much safer and more effective. basically he planted this little gel caps all around the kitchen and bathroom around which was the bait to get them out. he then sprayed the entire permiter of the room with some sort of fast drying liquid, and then told me that once the roaches walk through the liquid, within 24 hours it would be dead. He said to give the whole process a week or 2 and if i dont' see a drastic change to call them up, as i paid for the year long service plan as well (which was only 90 dollars for the whole year, which was pretty sweet)....about 2 weeks later the guy was dead on, i barely see them anymore, maybe a baby here and there, but as soon as they walk through the kitchen, they start shivering, walk in a cirle one or two times, than just fall over dead. the whole thing cost me i think $294 or so and i obv tipped the guy so i think $320 all together, and it was well worth it. Edit:remember roaches have can survive nuclear attacks, i doubt any household [censored] can clear them outta your place. this sort of thing needs a professionals touch to get it taken care of, gl. |

But wussy American roaches? No way. |

Re: Cockroaches- I Found Ur Base (w/Pics and MSPaint)
Permethrin
Use it well because whereever you spray it no living bug will ever EVER exist again. Stuff is potent Allright look I'm editing this because I've used this stuff and it's the best thing ever. But read the last sentence it's NOT POSSIBLE the overlords are unstoppable PERMETHRIN The insecticide permethrin (in the synthetic pyrethroid family) is widely used on cotton, wheat, corn, alfalfa, and other crops. In addition, over 100 million applications are made annually in and around U.S. homes. Permethrin, like all synthetic pyrethroids, is a neurotoxin. Symptoms include tremors, incoordination, elevated body temperature, increased aggressive behavior, and disruption of learning. Laboratory tests suggest that permethrin is more acutely toxic to children than to adults. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has classified permethrin as a carcinogen because it causes lung tumors in female mice and liver tumors in mice of both sexes. Permethrin inhibits the activity of the immune system in laboratory tests, and also binds to the receptors for a male sex hormone. It causes chromosome aberrations in human and hamster cells. Permethrin is toxic to honey bees and other beneficial insects, fish, aquatic insects, crayfish, and shrimp. For many species, concentrations of less than one part per billion are lethal. Permethrin causes deformities and other developmental problems in tadpoles, and reduces the number of oxygen-carrying cells in the blood of birds. Permethrin has been found in streams and rivers throughout the United States. It is also routinely found on produce, particularly spinach, tomatoes, celery, lettuce, and peaches. A wide variety of insects have developed resistance to permethrin. High levels of resistance have been documented in cockroaches, head lice, and tobacco budworm. Notice how the government tells soldiers to use as much of this as possible on their clothes Trust big brother |
