ROME : Series one

Just searched didnt find any topic about the Rome series. Damn what a great series, amazed there aint a post about it in OOT. The sets, the realism, the story, the actors pure briliance. Best HBO series imho is the Wire but ROME is certainly up there. Anybody know when the next series is gonna come out and what the setting will be?

Edit : Just checked apparently season 2 is comming on dvd next month already, damn we are behind here in europe.

The second (and last) season begins with Octavius returning to assume power and ends with the demise of Antony and Cleopatra. I guess you're not in the US, because the season ended a couple of months ago.

It was a great show. Titus Pullo was the man, and the actor who played him (can't remember the name off-hand) did an amazing job the last few episodes.

Rome Season 1 is one of the all-time great seasons of television, IMO. Also two of the best individual moments in all of television/cinema:
Thirteen!
The boy is blameless.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm Polly Walker nekkid. Worth the price of Season 1 DVDs alone.

Season two was a big let down in how quickly they had to move the story in order to finish it. That plus the jolting change in the actor who played octavian. Which had to be done but was still . Overall definitely an entertaining show and i'll echo everything others have said about Pullo and add that the actor who played Lucius Vorenus did a sick job as well.

I think the actor that played Octavian in season 1 was outstanding, which was the main reason I didn't enjoy season 2 as much as the first.

I thought he did a an excellent job as well. Which is why I was that they couldn't give this show 4-6 seasons letting him possibly grow into the role instead of being replaced so quickly.

One of the things I loved about S1 of this show (and Carnivale) is you knew where the story was ultimately headed. It created a sense of anticipation as you watched the events unfold.

HBO is amazing in their ability to consistently put out good shows.

i think HBO only had planned 2 seasons...budget was too large. The actor who played Caesar was great...haven't seen season 2. Disappointed it doesn't measure up with season 1.

i'm pretty sure i read that they didn't do another season more so for the fact that many people didn't receive it well in england and being as it was a BBC show they decided to can it especially because the budget was so large that it was more worth it to dump it then go with it...most people complained that it was to inaccurate and were hoping for something different, or something like that i read the article a while ago while i was in london

There were plenty of threads about Rome.

As for the series, it is done after two seasons. Season one was all very good. Some lesser spots in season two, but I thought the end of season 2 was good.

I thought Season Two was just as good as Season One.

Rome s.2 was really good at points, but a little too much compression, and I really missed Caesar.

Ditto. Watching Antony rise into power and then fall was fantastic. I didn't like the way they wrapped up Octavian and Pullo the last two episodes and the Antony/Octavian resolution was a little too rushed, but for the most part, I enjoyed Season 2 just as much as Season 1.
