I can\'t persuade myself that he has a better hand
75 live about 4 handed. If there was a PT for live games then this villain would be semiloose passive. Although he is passive he will still exhibit some normal aggression postflop with real hands like top pair or very big draws. His flop raises usually mean a reasonable connection with the flop in the form of draw or middle pair+. A big bet street raise means you're headed for white water unless you have a huge hand. He misses mountains of value on his hands in general and is probably one of the worst players on the river that I have played with in a long time. Strangely enough I feel he actually plays worse in position on the river by checking down hands that are 100% winners while OOP he seems to understand the concept of betting when you are going to call a bet anyway and you have a decent hand.
I open A9, he calls in BB. Flop: J93r He c/c Turn: 8 offsuit He c/c River: 4 He bets I don't think I've ever seen him c/c flop with top pair. That certainly doesn't mean he hasn't done it before but I'm smelling a 9 of some sort here so I raise. |
Re: I can\'t persuade myself that he has a better hand
basically you're only gonna lose to like pair+4 soooted and 44 and only 44 is gonna 3 ball so this seems like a good protected raise spot.

Yeah I raise here too vs. described opponent.

Re: I can\'t persuade myself that he has a better hand
Given the read, i think you played this hand very well.

Nice hand. Who was this?

nh... do you fold to a 3 bet? [/ QUOTE ] Easily. As far as I know this player isn't even capable of semibluff c/r the turn so there's probably a negative percent chance of him being able to bet/3bet bluff the river. |
Re: I can\'t persuade myself that he has a better hand
I dunno, this river play looks to be a whole lot of BS, meaning he most often has a hand that he's just going to chuck. Not sure why it's impossible or even unlikely that he made some nasty two pair on the river, and while I think you're a pretty big favorite on the first river bet going into the pot, the second is going to look pretty bad when it gets matched.

Re: I can\'t persuade myself that he has a better hand
This is what I'm somewhat afraid of. I think he will fold an 8 here but I'm hopeful he'll make a terrible call with a 9.

Re: I can\'t persuade myself that he has a better hand
I think he is going to have 98 here pretty often. This sounds like the type of player that will not raise you on the turn since his two pair makes him worry that you now have a straight draw. A very safe card for him came on the river and he was worried that you would check behind (since that is what he does), so he donks.

Re: I can\'t persuade myself that he has a better hand
Last time a player donked into me like this, he had a gutshot. Value raises only work if they get payed off by worse hands. You think he calls you with a worse 9?

I raised, he got a disgusted look on his face that told me the hand I thought was the nuts is no good. He called. J8 good. I really love it when someone's awful play accidentally gets the absolute max value. |
