Another Chipotle Thread
So my standard Chipotle order is a steak burrito with pinto beans. I've noticed that about 9 times out of 10 the server either almost gives me black beans instead of pinto beans or has to ask me twice what kind of beans I want. I'd say about a third of the time it goes down like this:
- I'll have a steak burrito please Then they put the rice on and say - Black bean? (never in the plural of course) while starting to put black beans on the burrito before even waiting for my response. Then I have to interject really quickly and tell them I want pinto beans. Another third of the time it goes down like this: - I'll have a steak burrito please - (As they are heating up the tortilla) Black or pinto bean? - Pinto beans please Then they put the rice on and either start to put black beans on or ask me again what kind of beans I want. The other third of the time I try to be proactive and say "Steak burrito with pinto beans" from the beginning. Invariably they either have to ask me again what kind if beans I want or they reach for the black beans. Is ordering pinto beans considered weird or something? Has anyone else ever had this problem? |
Re: Another Chipotle Thread
It's obvious that "black beans" is the correct answer here. Don't blame the people who never say bean in the plural form for your mistake.
|
Re: Another Chipotle Thread
You know, at some point you would recognize the pattern and say "Pinto beans" before they get a chance to put black bean on your burrito.
They ask again, you smash their jaw. It's only fair. |

this happens to me every single time I go

Just order a fajita burrito and avoid eating those disgusting little fetuses altogether.

Re: Another Chipotle Thread
I consider myself somewhat of a Chipotle connoisseur. I would estimate I have eaten there about 70 times in the last 8 month. I am currently on a 3 day streak. Here is my standard order.
Chicken (in the last week I have been going steak, considering making it my new standard. I have tried barbocoa, liked it but it doesn't mesh with the other ingredients as well IMO. Carnitas I have never had, I suppose I should try everything though if I am calling myself a connoisseur. Ok so anyways: chicken/steak pinto beans rice all 4 salsas (some hate this, I have converted one friend to it, and he is probably the biggest chipotle fan I know aside from myself. I suggest everyone try it once) lettuce cheese I have not once had this sort of trouble with the beans. My problem I have is with them often giving me sour cream when I never ask for it. This occurs most often when there is a big crowd, so when my burrito is at the salsa station, I am about 3 to 4 feet back. So when they ask me, I say "can i get all 4 salsas please". I also hold up 4 fingers in case they can't hear me, I often don't enunciate well and the place can be loud. Anyways, I'd say about 40% of the time in this situation I get sour cream. It really pisses me off. Also you'd think at some point they'd start to recognize me since I have to be their most common customer by far. |
Re: Another Chipotle Thread
Easy solution:
Don't eat any of those beans. Don't eat beans in general. Problem solved. Chicken bowl Extra rice Double chicken Hot salsa lettuce little bit of cheese (not the 6 lb. mound of cheese typically on there) |
Re: Another Chipotle Thread
ask for 1/2 chicken, 1/2 steak and thank me later- you'll get a lot more meat because they are dumb and can't to halves well.

Re: Another Chipotle Thread
I always just say, "x burrito with y beans". Or "burrito bowl with x (meat) and y beans". Typically, this is carnitas with black beans. They almost always get the beans right, but sometimes you have to remind them about the meat. |
Re: Another Chipotle Thread
I've never seen a bias towards one type of beans. My problem is I like the hot sauce, but a full ladle of it is way too much IMO. My standard is to say "I'd like like light hot sauce please," but half the time I get a full ladle anyway. I think they're just not paying attention so now I make a point out of it: "I'd like hot sauce but I just want a few drops." My real pet peeve is when they start to drizzle it on there and I'll shout "That's enough!" but they ignore me and continue to dump the whole ladle on. Sigh.

I am a big fan of the double chicken, and occasionally "the hybrid". But if you clearly say "double meat", and are willing to pay the extra $1.25, then you have to stand up for yourself if you get less than a full 2 scoops. Occasionally you have to say "no I want DOUBLE MEAT". They always relent and give you your just scoops. |
Re: Another Chipotle Thread
when i order qdoba I always say chicken burrito w/ black beans. and if they [censored] it up, because I am a pretty loud and clear speaker, I make them make it until its right. im not paying for something that i didnt order

FWIW, my normal order is a chicken bowl with 3 of the 4 salsas (not the tomatillo... although maybe I should do this) with fajita veggies, rice, sour cream and lettuce. It's my favorite restaurant meal that's not at a sit down establishment. |
Re: Another Chipotle Thread
Jesus after reading all of this I'd hate to work at Chipotle. Half this, a few drops of that, wrong beans! I would imagine that everytime one of you guys makes some sort of request the employee tries to kill you with his laser eyes.
Of course it angers me to no end when they put sour cream on my burrito when I don't want it. |

They have three people for each step of the process. Given a bean preference between two varieties, it shouldn't be difficult to scoop the correct one. But I'm totally with you on the meat part. [/ QUOTE ] I've been there many times and they are about as well organized as you can make it. I'm commenting more on the fact you have a line out the door, it's loud as hell, and you're making a pretty crappy hourly wage each time someone makes a special request or you can't hear them or whatever, your screw is going to tighen just a little bit. Right or wrong, eventually you're going to have complete contempt to your customers and each time they ask for something that you're not used to you're going to want to kill them. I think that's the problem with the reverse buffet style where you specify as you go what you want... Enough of my rant. Chipolte rocks. |

Re: Another Chipotle Thread
1) This thread is teh awesome
2) Qdoba is teh suck 3) Mixing meats is teh suck 4) To the guy who thinks he's special for eating at Chipotle 2-3x a week -- you're not alone, bud. There have to be a ton of regulars, especially at lunchtime at locations near major office complexes. 5) I'll have to try the four salsas. I especially like holding up four fingers when ordering the four salsas, that's kind of baller. 6) You shouldn't say "light hot sauce" you should say "a little bit of hot sauce". FWIW, my usual pattern when ordering a fajita is to ask for "some of the tomato and some of the corn" and then at the last minute I'll say "oh, and just a little bit of the hot sauce too". This always works. 7) If you order tacos with guacamole, make sure to get lettuce because the lettuce will cover up the guacamole since it's the same color and about 25% of the time you won't get charged for the guac. This is the most important thing to know before eating at Chipotle. |

In fact, it's quite delicious to get the chicken/steak "hybrid" combo. 4. This is true. <10 times per month is not much. There are plenty of people that go much more often. I lived directly across the street from one last year and I went 5+ times per week. The cashier knew my roommates and I and started charging us for only a drink with each visit which made it financially awesome to go there ($1.50 for a burrito/drink). 7. This is a good idea. I notice that when I get double meat (about 95% of the time), it's like a game of telephone since it goes through 3 people...I get charged for the double meat maybe 50% of the time. That's def. nice. FWIW, I had Chipotle for lunch today in inspiration from this thread. My selection: Burrito bowl with rice, black beans, chicken extra steak, tomatos, hot salsa, cheese, guacamole It was delicious. |

3. Mixing meats is not the suck. In fact, it's quite delicious to get the chicken/steak "hybrid" combo. [/ QUOTE ] It's just a personal pet peeve of my taste buds, I think, and it ranges all the way from Chipotle to a $30/plate restaurant. In general, the meat is the dominant flavor and texture in the dish, and if you mix meats, they can clash or the dish can lack a focal point. Obviously, you need to make an exception for stew-type dishes like jambalaya, which are supposed to have different flavors and textures. FWIW, I can see mixing steak and chicken at Chipotle as being just fine, since they do have somewhat similar textures, but mixing say steak and carnitas would be an utter disaster. |

Re: Another Chipotle Thread
Anyone want to franchise out a Chipotle? Irvine, CA seriously needs one. There's all these damn businesses here, but there's not one in Irvine. The nearest one is about a 5 mile drive away. Considering there are like 4 Baja Freshes closer than that to me, it's too damn far away.

Re: Another Chipotle Thread
Has anyone here weighed out the difference in food between a burrito bowl and a burrito with the same ingredients? I estimate that they give me 15-20% more food when I order the bowl.

Does pinto beans mean refried beans or pinto beans cooked in the way black beans are? |
