Sklansky/Brandi stuff . . . Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
I realize that I haven't been playing/posting much as of recently, but I have to say that all this Brandi/Sklansky drame has gotten a bit out of hand.
There is no question that this site over the years has gone from focusing primarily on educating poker players to more of a gossip forum which is now bordering on very questionable regarding good taste and morality. I used to have the utmost respect for DS, and I do owe much of the success I enjoyed playing poker over the last ten years to him. I have to admit that I am a little troubled by his recent behaivor. I used to engage in bickering/insulting/bs-ing with Angelo, El D, etc., but we could all stick up for ourselves and it was intended to be good-natured. I don't think that all this Brandi stuff is healthy or in good taste, and it should not be promoted by the co-founder of this once-fine site. TSP |

Clearly, your opinion deserves a new thread.

Re: Sklansky/Brandi stuff . . . Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
it creates traffic and money. plus it creates a public service. people like brandi will think twice about stealing $70,000 or however much it was from people's online accounts
....and then go online and slander the person she stole from |
Re: Sklansky/Brandi stuff . . . Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
It's kind of like Clinton and Monica, but much more trailer-parkish.

TSP,
Good thoughts, but I think you are preaching to the wrong crowd. |

Funnier/sadder still, is that Sklansky now admits to being paid by Mason for publicly embarrassing himself with these brandi posts for the sake of 2p2.
He has also admitted that the primary reason he starts a thread nowadays is to drum up up "hits" for the site. Personally, I'm a little insulted by this. Here I thought I was taking part in discussions of mutual interest with David. Now I've learned our exchanges have been little more than a ruse to increase 2p2's ad rates. As a result, I've been posting MUCH less lately. |

Dude, it "sells newspapers". Why do you think Paris being thrown back in the Gray Bar Hilton was the major story on the same day that the Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff resigned? Its the way of the world. Think ADVERTISEMENT BUCKS . This ain't yo daddy's news paper (forum). THIS CHIT SELLS

Re: Sklansky/Brandi stuff . . . Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
One big fact that no one seems to want to look in the face is that fame now is rarely based on anything good or wholesome. If you're looking for that level of fame without ever doing anything "questionable", well... the odds of that happening are pretty low.
If Sklansky wants hits on his website, this is imho the easiest and smartest way to achieve that goal. It may mean selling out some ethics. Is that such a punishable offense in this day and age? It seems like everyone is doing it, openly or not. And are all the poker players on this forum really the highest judges of ethics anyway? I'm sure many of us have done things we are not 100% proud of, but for a larger more selfish reason. That is human nature. Also, I'm not sure what the point is in berating him for his friendship with Brandi.. Do any of you really think you can convince a smart, confident man to stop being friends with someone based on your opinions? Although I don't know the man myself, I'm relatively certain he will make up his own mind about Brandi, as a reasonable adult who can form his own opinions. The only thing I could say on their relationship is that I hope he is imparting other wisdom to Brandi besides poker smarts alone. If evidence of Sklansky's guidance manifests itself over the summer, I hope there will be more to see in growth than just cards. And if anything is tasteless on this website, its the empty responses posted by people with not enough information to make those judgements. |

Re: Sklansky/Brandi stuff . . . Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
I'm real bad at searching stuff guys and I don't want to make too big a deal out of it. He mentioned somewhere his co-ownership of 2p2 and how the reason he posts as much as he does was to encourage hits.
There's nothing inherently wrong with that, depending on how it's done. It goes without saying that Skansky authored posts will attract more hits. I see nothing wrong with his posting to increase forum popularity. Another thing is that this is just my personal opinion. I just think it's kinda degrading for someone of his stature in the poker world to be publicly discussing the tuitions or other things he pays for to the women he goes out with. Even though I'm sure he meant for that most to be humrous. Again, I'm mostly kidding, but I've never been someone to be star-struck. I couldn't care less about a poker author's love life, or who this brandi is. When David (or Brandi), start talking about themselves, I get the feeling they think they're more important than they are. And that really irks me for some reason. But I guess some people really are interested in what goes on behind closed doors with these people. |

Re: Sklansky/Brandi stuff . . . Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
Yeah, that is exactly what i'm saying. I'm saying that once upon a time fame was earned through merit. not solely, but mostly. only in the last 100 years has it been drastically different. thats why in history books there are less marie antoinettes and more washingtons, churchills, einsteins.
|
Re: Sklansky/Brandi stuff . . . Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?
well, i think its more degrading to hide who you are and the decisions you make, the truth about our lives, just to impress a bunch of gossip hounds. why shouldn't he be able to say, i do this, and thats my decision, and i stick by it and dont need to defend it to anyone.

Has Sklansky ever won a poker tournament? Just curious. If not, he would seem to be an odd choice for a tournament poker mentor.

He has two bracelets, although they are older than Brandi. He's made 1 or 2 WPT final tables also.

By his books, he's one of the great poker teachers of all time. I'm just saying that, if your primary interest is tournament poker, you might consider getting a mentor who has had more tournament success. At least for us American posters -- we live in a country where millions will gladly pay .95cents a text message over and over to help try and make someone who has a God-awful singing voice the American Idol because they want to see him win and have a good laugh. A world where millions are glued to their TV set to see if a California blonde bimbo will get 23 days or 45 days in jail for a misdemeanor and will keep tuning in while she is in jail to see if she ate. We love train wrecks and these near real time reported wrecks are the best. I think this Brandi chick is great. Everyone who calls her a whore would line up and proudly wear the title of 'john'. She will NEVER run out of guys to wrap around her finger. Sklanksy has just become embarassing -- something people like to see as well. Not at all for 'mentoring' her (hell, my gf is 20 years younger than me) but for these little posts he is dropping in here to keep the pot stirred. Total lack of class on his part and even if you want to argue traffic and ad revenue, a minimal return for his dignity, I would say. |

Nicely said. I would in no way ever judge DS for having sex with Brandi and even paying for it. I am a fair bit younger than him, but I would certainly have some fun with her - my life leak is a weakness for dirty/trashy girls. BUT I would never allow myself to appear so pathetic to my peers and fans/customers/readers - I can undertand if your claim to fame was being a great pornographer, but if you are an author/intellectual/poker statesman, please don't get cheap publicity/few $$$ by associating yourself with this sort of stuff. It makes you look bad; because of your stature it makes poker look bad, and it makes me look bad (in a very small way) because I play poker too. Again, I am not a nit - I am all for hookers, kinky sex, etc., but this is just.... sad. |
