Wynn Poker room BS

Copied from my blog

I promise this is complete truth OK... so long story short, I took second in the omaha 8 event final table, and there wasn't a damn thing I could've done to improve that result. Sucks for me. Even if you factor in all the bad play from previous days and give me all the chips I should've had, I still take second. I ran really bad in the final four, and especially bad heads up. I won't bore you with details, but that is how it was.

Unfortunately, the point of this blog has nothing to do with my result or the good times had afterwards. The point is how poorly Katherine Martin, a "poker room shift manager" of the Wynn treated us after our celebration spilled outside of Tryst. I cashed for a little over $140k and we went to celebrate at Tryst. After much partying, several of us ended up playing 1-3 NL in the Wynn poker room.

Yes, we were drunk.

Yes, we were loud.

Yes, we were having a good time.

Yes, she asked us to "tone it down."

Yes, she said to us after we asked who was complaining, "There are many people playing for much higher stakes than you guys, and you all need to settle down."

No having fun at the Wynn poker room.

I had over $10k on the table. Apparently not high enough stakes for her.

Honestly... I pulled her aside and calmly asked her to speak with me for a moment. She said no. WTF?!? I finally got my way and had her in private conversation. I expalined to her that I am in fact a high roller. I explained that we were all at the table having a great time. We were playing Indian (put your cards on your forehead) NL Hold'em. The two tables that were near us had no complaints and actually thought we were all hilarious. After about four minutes of reasonable conversation with her not listening to a word I said, I finally lost it and yelled to the room, "Does anybody have a problem with how loud or how much fun we are having?" Several people laughed and nobody objected. There weren't even annoyed looks given in my direction. Anyways, that apparently was enough for her, and she called security and had them escort me out. I gave the ol' "I am a blogger and plenty of people will read about what happened tonight speech" and all that lead her to do was ask me for a card. I'm a professional gambler for Pete's sake... we don't have cards. I think I should look into that. She threatened me with "reporting to pokerpages how I behaved tonight" and I laughed in her face when I countered with the thousands of y'all who will read about how she treated us tonight.

The worst part about all this is that I conisder the Wynn my home turf. I play the cash games there more than any other joint in Vegas. The floorpeople and dealers know me very well and they know my reputation. Yes, I can be loud. Duh. Yes, I can be a drunken idiot. But tonight for one time I actually acted in a reasonable manner when told not to be a drunken idiot and she did not listen to any reason whatsoever.

Instead, when I got booted, the game broke immediately and ten people left the joint very frustrated.

Yes, I was the fish in the game.

So, up until this point I have supported the Wynn poker room at 100%, but now I doubt that I will ever play there again. It is complete bunk to threaten a 1-3 NL game with being kicked out because they are being loud and they are not the highest rollers in the joint, even though a few of the highest rollers in the joint are sitting at the table.

Food for thought. Go Venetian.

Re: Wynn Poker room BS

if i was playing anywhere in the room i would have objected to how you were acting...im sure many people did and were afraid to speak up when you yelled across the room...

"Even if you factor in all the bad play from previous days and give me all the chips I should've had, I still take second."

thats also a pretty dumb statement...congrats on the tournament though...how often do you play that game?

IMO, you probably annoyed a lot more people than you believed (or remembered)...it sounds as if you were pretty tanked after all. But, I wasn't there...so, no proof of my theory. I personally can't stand people that act like you did in the poker room. Having a good time is one thing, but being so loud that the entire room can hear it, is another. To each his own though.

I've never lost in that 1-3 game there (and I suck at NL). If I got tossed from the Wynn, I personally would beg to be allowed back in. Tourists at the Wynn don't seem to care about $$ at all.

So basically you weren't allowed to act loud and annoying and you're upset about it?

First of all, congratulations on the WSOP 2nd place. That's a great accomplishment. Secondly, if you have Katherine Martin's E-Mail address I will write her and thank her for kicking your obnoxious ass out into the street where it belonged.

Katherine was smart enough to know that money won in O8 is not real money.

Re: Wynn Poker room BS

you acted like a douche and you were escorted. i see little error or anything wrong.

i went to the wynn for the very first time yesterday and was very, very impressed with everything, and if I had to deal with a bunch of drunk people 2 tables over it would have been something in the back of my head when I decided to play again live.

furthermore, the last thing any single person wants is to be *that guy* who is confrontational with a loud drunk guy, so obviously nobody was going to object to you.

congrats on the score, but wynn was in the right here. they should run a professional joint, and that includes booting you when you're being retarded.

QFT.

Adding onto that, if I were in the poker room, I would have probably kept quiet when you yelled in the room, but would have celebrated when you got booted.

Congrats on the win, BTW.

MaverickUSC - spend some of the tournament winnings to get a new life, sounds like you need one. Katherine Martin can be a hard ass, but based on the tone of your report your the idiot this time around - not her. I think you owe Wynn management an apology.

PS: Professional Gamblers have business cards to comply with IRS rules about what defines a business, I've gotten countless business cards from professional gamblers - its an advertising expense (and a tax write off) - see How to Turn your Poker Playing into a Business by Ann-Margaret Johnston to learn why. But in this case i think she was asking for your Wynn red card.

Devo, You've always seemd pretty cool to me when I've read your stuff. But it probably was that people just didn't want to speak up. I mean I'm not a little guy and I don't like to speak up. Not for the fear of getting beat up I just don't want to get killed.

Next time bribe everyone by paying for a couple minutes of a massage for the room. Then they'll be on your side.

yeah i just thought this was hilarious, i manage a club and im constantly threatened by people(when i say people i mean douchebags) who claim to be with any number of organizations, or friends with the owner(who is a way bigger a-hole than i could ever be and hates most of the people who drop his name) or one of the investors(one of whom is one of the most famous people on the planet and couldnt really care less) and i've never heard anything so silly, i would just bust out laughing if someone said that and probably take them to the bar and say, hey everyone, we have a blogger in the house! ask for his autograph and buy him a shot for providing me with a good laugh

I dont know how much money this guy has but he won 140k and went out to celebrate.

Sounds like he was being a douche in the story but he could have just been really happy/exited/drunk and got a lil' out of line. I dont think you can hold this story to him being a douche all the time.

If I had won 140k I might get a lil' out of line as well.

Me too, but I would sober up the next day and realize what a jerk I had been, followed by me calling up the Wynn to apologize. Then again, I'm not a blogger.

It's not the being loud yesterday that's the problem, it's how you're reacting now. If you just apologized privately, fine, all forgotten. If you did nothing, ok that's up to you. Splashing it all over the internet about how you're the injured party is really lame IMO.

did it ever occur to you that some people in the wynn poker room were highly annoyed by your beahvior, but didn't want to have some obnoxious drunk confront them about it when asked 'am i bothering anyone?'.

fwiw, i probably would have told you to go [censored] off your money in the pits, you [censored] lush, this is a poker room, not a college dormitory for playing unknown drunken card games.

props to the wynn for handling this the way they did.

nobody wants a loud and annoying drunk in the card room.

I hate loud annoying people when I am trying to play cards. Nothing wrong with fun, nothing wrong with being drunk. There is something wrong when I can hear you halfway across the room.

I've been in the Wynn with drunk annoying 2p2ers a few times, one of show kicked over my chip stack. We weren't close to getting thrown out. I have to assume that you guys were being far worse than we were, and frankly- we were out of line.

Putting 10K on the table in a 1-3 nl game does not mean you are playing high stakes poker.
