SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
i had an opponent disconnect during heads-up and of course i ended up with most of the money until he came back up..... and he seemed mad at me, not just at the fact he was disconnected (and yes, it's happened to me quite a few times, or worse been disconnected in a cash game with nut flush)
is there some kind of etiquette i was supposed to use? was i supposed to let the clock run down low before betting? or was i supposed to lose half the hands on purpose to maintain level? it seems to me like having a good internet connection is part of online poker expertise, like being in shape for tennis. (and as i said, i lost lots of $$$$ before because of a wonky connection). i'm seriously asking although i think i know the answer.... thanks in advance!!! |
Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
id say its personal preference, if the person is being a jerk throughout the game and DC's i rush the play. if its a quiet game where neither of us are talking or if we're making nice comments (nice hand, didnt expect that, good job...etc) i let the clock run to near 0. just my 2 cents

Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
you took advantage of his cheap internet ... i would have done the same thing ... this is about money ... you did what any other player would have done (except for Andy Black) ... look at it this way ... he would have done the same if it happened to you

Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
Not only is it correct to kick your opponent when he is down, it is correct to rip the still beating heart out your opponents chest and show it to him before he expires.
That is all. |

[/ QUOTE ] hey, i didn't know michael jordan or tiger woods posts here..... anyhow, i agree and appreciate the responses so far... and i think 90%+ players would do the same, unless there was a large online crowd in which case i think people might go slower. |
Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
I try to take my opponent's chips as fast as possible, and I expect him to do the same if I disconnect.

Steal the blinds until your opponent comes back.

I think if you're willing to allow the clock to continually run down till your opponent gets back then poker isn't the game for you

Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
The Germans have a word which perfectly captures how I feel about these situations;
scha·den·freu·de Spelled Pronunciation[shahd-n-froi-duh] –noun satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune. And just to rub it in, you should turbo MINRAISE every time and SHOW your 72o when he's folded out. Maybe throw in the odd 'lol' in the chatbox. And then when he is re-connected, he is transformed into............MegaMonkeyTiltBoy. The end is never far away after all that. |

I was disconnected in a SNG heads up last week, somehow I ended up with a biggger stack when I came back.

Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
On a side note;
I can't believe how people HATE you, when you beat them heads up. Even with no suck outs. I destroyed a guy the other night, made a few correct river calls with ace high or king high which seemed to tilt him though there was no chat. Once the match was over I said "gg" And he replied "FU moron" Since being a complete dick to your opponent heads up seems to be the norm, I blind away. Though this has only happened twice I can remember. |
Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
Mini-bet as quickly as you can, and then steal the blinds.
If you're playing in a live tourney and someone keels over at the table, call time on him while you're waiting for the medics to arrive. Show no mercy. Ok, seriously -- there is no ettiquite breach in trying to steal all his chips. More interesting question -- there are three (or 4) left in a SnG, and someone disconnects. Now, I think we all agree that there's nothing wrong with the people with the connection grabbing the poor schmo's chips. But -- if they talk around the table and agree not to bet and how to split the swag, is this collusion? I say yes. They can implicitely agree by their actions, but not explicitly do so. |
Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
um i would raise every time and take his blinds. I'm a cut throat kind of guy though
|
Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
I would raise too. I don't see anything wrong with it. Its been done to me, and I understand its part of the game.

Re: SNG heads-up etiquette (disconnect)
Mash that raise button like your bankroll depends on it!
