Ultimate Guide to Vegas

With the WSOP right around the corner and many of us heading out to the desert for over a month many of us realize that this could be a long time to be in "Sin City". As poker players we know that balance is the key to a good poker game and this rings true in life. While you are out there make sure to enjoy yourself and exercise and get outside (in the heat) too. We will all have our cliques out there that we see more then anyone else and it will come down to these groups to make sure everyone stays balanced, healthy, and has fun. Trust me it can only help your results on the felt. Here is a huge list of outdoor things, as well as poker rooms and poker tournaments.

[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Outdoor Activities
[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Basketball, Tennis, Baseball<ul type="square">[*]Sunset Park - One of the largest parks in Las Vegas, it is popular for festivals and picnics. Eight outdoor lighted tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, picnic areas with barbeques, dog runs, and even peace and quiet can be found here. There also is a fishing pond, popular mostly with children. The fishing is year-round, and in winter the pond is stocked with rainbow trout, and catfish in summer. There is a three-fish limit, and children under 12 do not need a fishing license.
[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Summer Tournament Series (Thanks to Photoc)
Full thread can be found here <ul type="square">[*] WSOP - We all know that Harrahs is running the World Series of Poker with 54 bracelet events and 55 events in total including the Casino Employees No Limit Holdem event. The event runs from June 1st through July 15th. The details including buy ins, structures, and level times can be found here: http://worldseriesofpoker.com/tourne...sp?groupID=309
[*]Venetian DeepStack - Did you know that the Venetian will be running their Deep Stack Extravaganza II from June 1st through July 1st with buy-ins ranging from $330 to $1060. The games included are HORSE, No Limit Holdem, Limit Holdem, Pot Limit Omaha, and Omaha 8/b. Last year, the Venetian held the DPS I and it went over extremely well with fields in getting into the 400 entry range. More details and contact information can be found here: http://www.venetian.com/VenetianEng/...deepstack2.pdf
[*]Binion's Poker Classic - Do you remember Binion’s? Yeah, that little place that used to own the rights to and held the World Series of Poker for 28 years before Harrahs purchased it and moved it to the Rio. Well they’re back this summer as well in a big way. Now introducing the 1st Annual Binion’s Poker Classic starting on May 31st and running daily events through July 4th. The buy ins will range from $100 through $1000 with games such as 7 Stud, No Limit Holdem, Stud 8/b, Omaha 8/b, Pot Limit Omaha, Limit Holdem, 2-7 Tripple Draw, HORSE, Short Handed (6 handed) No Limit Holdem, Pot Limit Omaha 8/b. For more information, please go to:
http://www.binions.com/gaming/poker_classic.html
[*]Bellagio Cup III - Now, onto the Bellagio. The Bellagio Cup III is on the schedule for June 11 to July 24th with buy ins starting as low as $1500 and a three day main event with a $10,300 buy-in. The turnouts were reportedly pretty good last year for this event and with virtually no competition during this time period, it’s almost a given that the fields will be comparable, if not larger than last years 200-400 player ranges. Satellites and super satellites will also be available to players daily. For more information:http://www.cardplayer.com/tournaments/event_list/913
[*]The Orleans Open - The Orleans Open is an extremely popular series of tournaments that directly after the time the WSOP concludes at the Rio. The Open usually draws very respectable crowds in the 200-400 range with an entire section of their convention center dedicated to this tournament series. The series starts July14th and runs through July 29th of this year. Some of the events include No Limit Holdem, Limit Holdem, Omaha 8, Stud, Stud 8, Seniors No Limit Holdem, and a LIPPS Ladies No Limit Holdem. The buy-ins range from $120 up to $1050. Re: Ultimate Guide to Vegas

This is pretty cool. Thanks Jurollo.

I'm going to be in Vegas on the weekend before the 4th of July, for like 3 days. Anyone going to be there? I think it would be cool to meet some of you guys.

I'm going on vacation with my g/f and her parents. We are getting a free hotel room if we sit in on a 2-hour lecture about timeshares or something. Her mom found it and it gives us an extra day in Vegas, so I'm all for it.

It'll be my first time in the big city. I probably won't be able to play any tournaments, not that I have the money for them anyways, but I'd like to play a couple hours in a cash game.

Anyone want to meet up if I get the chance to roam around?

Awesome.

Anyone know of a reliable place to find pickup basketball games north of the strip? Preferably Summerlin or further north.

I'm married so this doesn't apply, but I'd think if your in Vegas with a ton of cash and can't get laid the old fashion way there may be something wrong.

edit: although I suppose hookers are more efficient, but I digress

They're all hookers in Vegas. Some of them are just more up-front about it.

Re: Ultimate Guide to Vegas

Here are a few quick personal recommendations:

http://cityguide.aol.com/lasvegas/best &lt;- guide to the best of anything you're looking for

http://www.usmenuguide.com/huethaissandwiches.htm &lt;- Vietnamese sandwich shop. if you've never had a Vietnamese sandwich, you should. this place is ridiculously good and insanely cheap. I cannot stop eating there, and cannot stop recommending it to people. They also have all sorts of traditional Vietnamese and Thai dishes (like pho and pad thai) that are awesome. About a mile and a half west of the strip, north of Flamingo.

http://www.usmenuguide.com/cottagecafe.html &lt;- This is a weird Ethiopian restaurant in my neighborhood. I went there with 2p2er Spook a few months ago, and it was some of the most interesting food I'd ever had. They were also playing INSANE African music videos on a huge projection screen. Located next to a XXX video store and a gay nightclub. About a quarter mile south of the Hard Rock Casino.

http://www.fireflylv.com/ &lt;- Awesome tapas bar that I drag everyone I know to for awesome late night food and drinks. About a mile east of the strip, just north of Flamingo.

http://www.doubledownsaloon.com/ &lt;- the most bizarre dive bar you'll ever go to. the walls are covered in crazy [censored] paintings, TV's show 50's commericals, midget porn, old cartoons, clips from old sci-fi movies, all edited together in a wild mish-mash. their signature drink is called "ass juice" and all it is is a big jug filled with whatever the bartender that night decided to dump in it. sometimes it's good, sometimes it's gross, but it's always something you've never had, and probably something the bartender has never had either. if you puke, they make you clean up your own mess, but you don't have to worry about it if you pay $20 for puke insurance (seriously). there's usually a band you've never heard of on "stage" and will never hear from again that probably came from some unknown town out in the middle of the desert. on monday night's they have a dj, and if you don't like what they're playing, you can pay $1 to smash the cd with a sledgehammer. it's located just south of the Hard Rock, pretty much across the street from the Cottage Cafe. if you enjoy dive bars, you MUST come check this place out for at least an hour or so early on in an evening of debauchery.

http://www.buffaloexchange.com/locat...p?Region_ID=11 &lt;- vintage clothing store with a giant selection of whatever clothes you might want to buy while in town. after living in vegas for 15 months, a huge % of my wardrobe at this point has been purchased from here, and I probably haven't spent more than $800 there. &lt;3 this place. located about 2 miles east of the strip on the corner of Flamingo and Maryland. look for the Long John Silvers, it's behind there.

http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ &lt;- pinball hall of fame. pretty self explanatory. if you like pinball, this is the place for you. I've never actually been there because I'm really [censored] lazy, but I swear to god I'm going to make it there soon. Located about 3 miles east of the strip at Tropicana and Pecos.

Hey,

I'm looking for some opinions on The 'O' at Bellagio - has anyone seen it? I've seen it's considered one of, if not the, best show in Vegas...but generally, neither me nor my gf are much into this kind of thing (theater, shows, cabarets etc)...and don't want to waste a night/cash on a show we won't enjoy much.

Any opinions from people would be appreciated. Especially younger people, but I guess that's a pretty unnecessary qualifier in here
