Patrick Antonius interview!!
There's a long interview with Patrick Antonius in a magazine called Pokernews, conducted/written up by Dave Goldstein in Monte Carlo. I couldn't see it on their website. Here is a snippet:
"Q: The question you are asked the most must probably be what is your bankroll. A: There are two things that are secret: the deeper aspects of my personal life, and my bankroll. Even my fiance doesn't know exactly how much money I have. Obviously I'm doing fine. If you're playing the biggest games, you have to do fine. It's not a secret that I'm not broke at the moment. I don't count my money all the time, and when I did a few months ago, it turned out to be 2 million different than I thought, so I guess I don't even know what my bankroll is, or how much I'm worth, haha. Q: Is it possible you'll ever go broke? Yeah, sure. But I would have to lose my mind to go broke, I guess. I would never put myself in a position where I would play for my whole bankroll. If I have a million dollar bankroll, I would be playing in a game where I could lose a maximum of 70k or something. At the moment it looks like it would be impossible to go broke, as I have some investments and money I just can't take out. I don't owe money to anybody, I don't have debts, my house is paid for. That's one thing I hate, and that is to owe people. Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years from now? Still the best? I doubt it very much. I'd almost guarantee that I won't be the best in ten years. There's gonna be so many good players in the future. I see so many talented players already, but all of them seem to have some kind of problem, I don't know. So many times they outplay me completely, in a one hour session. But in the long run, they end up doing stupid things or gamble too much. It's like they can't maintain that level of play. I'm part of a new generation, of which the people have an athletic background. You have to be in really good shape to play the best game. Your mind has to be so clear to play, and in order to achieve that, you have to be in good shape. At the moment, it seems like I'm so far ahead of others, especially since I play all the games. Because of that, I have much variance if I play one specific game." I can scan the whole thing in on Monday if people are interesed. I wonder if he's talking about Durr/Sbrugby? Oh and sounds like he's worth $10m+ for sure. |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
so sick

Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!

Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
So, Antonius is willing to play a $1M roll with 15 buyins? $70K x 15 = $1,050,000

I wonder if he's talking about Durr/Sbrugby? [/ QUOTE ] Sbrugby seems to fit that new school athletic type he's talking about. |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
How is it new school, Doyle Brunson might ask...

Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
He's saying he wouldn't play any higher than a game where a -70k session would be the most he would ever lose. I'm not sure about limit but I'm thinking this would be around 50/100nl online, at the most.

Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
what is his country tax law on gambling income?
|
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
Is he really worth ~$15m?
He's won a couple million in tournaments and a couple million online, not sure about live, no idea about his investments, but how would get climb to $15m so quickly? |

[/ QUOTE ] He is speaking hypothetically about what stakes he would be able to play IF his bankroll was one million. But obviously it is more. Since he can lose $500,000 in a session without too much discomfort, we can presume it's maybe ten million. |

[/ QUOTE ] i saw some pokertracker screenshots that spanned from like october 2006 or something. those had him up ~$5M, and thats on FT only. |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
It's good to be Patrick.
I don't know, everything has been going so fast for me. It's so funny, from the limits I played; I've never had to go down a limit, nor have I ever lost an amount of money that would force me to step down a bit. I've always gone up, step by step, up to the point where I am now, playing the biggest games there are. I never had super bad streaks which would have forced me to step down. |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
So Antonius is basically saying Ivey, Greenstein, Reese, Benyamine and him are the best in the big game, the rest are relative fish. I'm surprised Brunson, Harman and Forrest didn't get a mention, but perhaps they're not so good allround in all of the games.

As far as his country is concerned, he is abroad and not subject to tax. |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
we'll see how long the IRS buys into that
|
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
If I report PA to the IRS, will they pay me a large reward?
If so, do you think they'll transfer it to me on Full Tilt? |

I imagine "now" he pays taxes on gambling winnings...just like he's suppose to, and didn't pay taxes, when he wasn't suppose to. Do you guys really think that the IRS doesn't keep tabs on people immigratting to the country that are worth 10 million plus? |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
Question on Antonius. I never really followed the big names much before this year, what is his background, and how long has he been playing?
|
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
Why would Antonius become a US citizen? He's giving up millions in taxes.
Is it not possible to just fly to canada and back with a renewed visa every 6 months? |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!

He's originally from a country that doesn't have taxes on gambling winnings. [/ QUOTE ] Actually you are wrong, in Finland you have to pay taxes for poker winnings like any other income tax, if casino has licence outside European Economic Area like FTP does and believe me with money what PA is doing with poker tax-% is hiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. If you are playing at casino what has licence inside EEA, winnings are taxfree. Dont know anything about tax-% in USA but in Finland if your incomes are 500k euros in year, your tax-% is 50%~. |
Re: Patrick Antonius interview!!
Patrick is playing 5-8 events. Only events over $5000 for sure. The side games should be amazing for big boys.
