2am @ Mortimer's Card Room in Monterey, CA on a golf trip with a buddy (Sossman). Sossman and I have been playing for a few hours. The game was typical for a small card room....somewhat loose passive and sometimes aggressive. Typical bad regulars. Villan in this hand is an older asian male who was not out of line in the hour that he had been at the table.

I am in the BB with 10d 4d, two limpers, villan (on button) limps and SB completes. I check my option. Pot is $50. Flop comes 10 3 4 rainbow. SB bets $30. I raise to $100 with top two. limpers fold to Villan. The villan cold calls without contemplation. The small blind thought for a few and folded. The pot was $280. The turn came a 6. No flush draws. I think for about 10 seconds and lead for $200. Villan quickly goes all in for $581 total. It was then $381 more to call. What do you do?

i'd call. live players suck and you're basically only beat by 33.

All jokes aside, it's live play and your getting about 1:40349395958468486 - snap call, clinch fist + backflip and once you master that start humming pepsi jingles in the process.

yea i know its live and all, but this looks pretty damn strong. we're repping pretty much what we have, and he says hey thats cool i'll just raise it all anyhow.

i think it could be a solid laydown, if you knew the opponent was capable of reading hands and playing well. if he was stupid, then sure be glad to get the chips in, but i dont know if he was or not.


also, 5/10 in monterey? thats not too far from SF. perhaps its worth investigating...

I had a guy overlimp, then overcall my raise tonight from CO with AA in the same game at the borg, it was an old (and nitty) Asian guy. I think you see a high pocket pair here a lot tbh from this kind of player. Sets are unlikely except for 333. I'd call

I'll throw in my thoughts since I was there.

The guy looked really strong and NCN had been playing really tight all night (although he may have gotten some residual action since he was with me and I was playing really aggro).
I thought it was pretty close at the time and I wasn't going to fault him one way or another. It really felt like a set or 52. He really didn't consider raising or folding on that flop. The SB bet 30 and NCN verbally said "100" and the guy had his stack out there before NCN. I have to think that he would think at least a little bit before 'trapping' w/ AA or AT etc...
Those quick calls are almost always a huge hand or an OESD or 4 flush from my experience.
So when he fired again on the turn and the guy jammed, it really felt stronger than it looks now in print.

All that being said, when I went back and counted it up, he's getting too good a price and I think it's probably a call.

yea i dont think its worth going just for the game. but if i'm going down there to check some other stuff out, couldnt hurt to stack some fools too!
