***Offical Summer Transfer Thread***

Lets get this going. Already Owen Hargreaves is going to ManU for 17m GBP, Steven Sidwell just signed with Chelsea on a free transfer, and Slyvian Distin just signed with Pompey. All signings and speculation will go in here for the leagues that we care about. We can put all coaching carousel possibilities in here too

I expect Sidwell to play about 3 games for Chelsea and I expect Hargreaves to be average like he has his whole career

Some bullsh*t rumors about Roma:

leaving:

Chivu to Inter
Mexes to Milan
De Rossi to Barcelona
Mancini to Inter

however i dont think any of those will happen

we're interested in acquiring Enzo Maresco (sorry Jared) from sevilla who has stated he's interested in rome. dont know how possible it is given roma's owner to be......"thrifty" with money

barcelona needs to get rid of messi and eto'o so i can root for their new teams. im kinda tired of barcelona being lame as hell and hearing about ronaldinho nonstop every game. messi to inter, eto'o to manchester united and i am set.

Fortunately it appears that del Nido has my plan.

He resigned his contract a month or two ago, hopefully that's a good sign that he's staying.

I am most curious about Crespo.

He is still a Chelsea player, clearly does not want to go back. Mourinho needs him or a stand-in as cover for African Cup of Nations duty. Getting Adriano for a year has been on the rumor pages of the BBC Football web site. Not sure how I feel about that. Doesn't seem to have enough pace for EPL. I would love to see Crespo come back.

Everyday here in Argentina there is something floating around about Tevez going to a new team. The ones that stick out even though they appear very different are:

To Real Madrid for 30 Million Euros

To Chelsea for 80 Million Dollars

newcastle was just taken over by a billionaire and he may buy out Freddy Shepard. This could be huge for newcastle and shake things up even more

No way is Joe Cole leaving. He is one of JMs favourite players. Robben is a great player but has a massive attitude problem. SWP played great against WH and did show signs of slight improvement but if he goes I wont mind in the least.

I want Tevez for Chelsea. Tevez and Drogba upfront BOOOOOOM!!! Tev has the class and he has already settled in to the EPL. If he can score goals at West Ham he can really cause carnage at Chelsea.

Ribery (if he leaves) should be biggest blockbuster move of the interseason. He is announced at Real and arsenal and other big teams.

Lol at Tevez being so overrated and overpriced just because he scored a few of goals to save a team from relegation.

ThaSaltCracka 05-23-2007 11:15 PM

Re: ***Offical Summer Transfer Thread***

Tevez is dope and I would be amazed if Ribery ends up anywhere but Arsenal, however I hope he ends up somewhere else honestly. There has to be a better winger out there.

Re: ***Offical Summer Transfer Thread***

Spanish press seems to say that these are forgone conclusions:
- Fabregas is going to Real Madrid
- Reyes isn't going to play for Real Madrid but doesn't want to go back to Arsenal and will probably sign for another Spanish club (Atletico de Madrid is the most likely)
- Baptista is in a similar boat. Arsenal don't want him, nor do Real Madrid. Not sure where he'll end up.

Apparently Wenger is in Madrid right now to discuss these three guys face to face with Mijatovic.

Although I love Reyes, looks like Sevilla sold these guys at the right time. They played so ridiculously well for Sevilla at a young age and showed such promise but haven't played at even close to that level, much less realized their potential, since leaving.

Sidwell's move makes no sense as he's blatantly not going to play ever, it's clearly all about the money

I couldn't disagree more. He's either brought Championships to or drastically improved every team he has ever played for.
When he first went to England I was concerned at how he would adapt to the style of play/life in England/ language/more money and pressure. But I realized that I don't really think any of this matters with him. He's just a monster that just doesn't do or want to do anything other than play football. I think he'll be sucessful wherever. I don't like Chelsea much but I really think he'd fit in nicely alongside Drogba.

I know this wasn't what you were getting at but your post for some reason got my thinking about Tevez and Ribery being on the same team. It wouldn't matter who else they had but that would be the ugliest team in the history of football.

I thought Lassana Diarra was brought in to be groomed as Makelele's successor. Or John Obi Mikel.

Totally agree about Sidwell getting lost in the shuffle at Chelsea though. He should've signed with a team that actually needs him like Newcastle or Aston Villa.

Re: ***Offical Summer Transfer Thread***

mikel seems pretty clearly makelele's successor. he's been the superior player for the better part of 2007.

sidwell is probably brought in as cover. i assume if ballack continues his, shall we say, indifferent form that sidwell will play some more. however, if he plays like he does in FM, sidwell will just about never see the pitch.

i'm curious what player coppell buys for 100k pounds and turns into the next 15 goal scorer in the prem. of course, i'd just be happy of convey gets fit again.

[/ QUOTE ]I could pontentially see a point where they sell him, but only if Arsene thinks Denilson or Diaby can fit that position. Arsenal does have tons of young CM's, however Fabregas is unreal and it would be madness to sell him.

shoxbb6 05-24-2007 04:34 PM

Re: ***Offical Summer Transfer Thread***

Arsenal aren't selling Fabregas anytime soon, seeing as at the beginning of the year they signed him to an 8 year contract.
While Arsenal does have a lot of young, good cm's (diaby, vela, merida), most of them are several years from being at cesc's current ability. Diaby, although good right now, is a midfielder more in the mold of a vieira, not a passer like cesc.

kolotoure 05-24-2007 04:37 PM

Re: ***Offical Summer Transfer Thread***

Dialby should be starting instead of Gilberto next year

ThaSaltCracka 05-24-2007 05:44 PM

Re: ***Offical Summer Transfer Thread***

Vela is a forward/winger, no?

They have the following CM's:
Cesc
Diaby
Denilson
Gilberto
Song
Hleb and Rosicky of sorts
Merida
Even Djourou can play DM

However, Gilberto will be gone soon and Song is likely to be sold in the summer. Wenger will still continue to play Hleb and Rosicky out wide. All this adds up to no way in hell they sell Cesc. Denilson and Diaby can both play DM, but both are capable of making plays. Wouldn't surprise me to see a 4-5-1 played more.
