Winstar

Does anyone know anything about the 1k Winstar tourney? I think it was in August last year....Thanks

Re: Winstar

I played it. I honestly dont rem the amount of starting chips. I think it was 4K with 30 min levels, very abrupt increases, they miss a lot of levels. overall IMO there are so many other BETTER tournys to play.

Oklahoma, one hour north of dallas. One of the only options for close poker where I'm from(west texas). The tourney has 3 day ones, 23,24,25 of aug, thur/fri/sat, and day 2(final day) on sunday. $1100 buyin, usually cash game action is heightened during this time, last year i think raymer was there and maybe some other pros

I heard that too. Also, I heard that he was going to be there again this year. But you know how unreliable these internet posts can be.

Re: Winstar

I will be playing in it this year on the Friday start date. I talked to the floor there and they said the blind structure is much improved from last year and is actually pretty good. It's 5,000 starting chips with blinds starting at 25-50 increasing(but not always doubling) every 40 minutes. Should be a fun tourney and if it fills up with the 1000 player max, then first should be around 250k I was told. See you there!

You'll love the new poker room Greg, it is a vast improvement over the old room, if you haven't already paid the indians a visit in the last coupla months.

Greg, they never said anything about you coming, but I would absolutely DIE to play 4/8 mixed with you. Puhleez? I figure only you could get it to happen.

Edit: Although I guess 5/10 might be better, they seem to prefer it for split pot games like the O8 we've had going to last few Saturdays.

The Red River Roundup is from August 23-26. Entry is $1000 + $100, supposed to be limited to 1000 players.

According to what I have read and what staff has said, the first 3 days will be 333 (or so) players each day playing down to 3 tables each day and Sunday the final 100 (in the money) will play to the end. I have no idea how they will run it so each day will finish with the same number of players or at the same time but then again I ain't no pur-fessonnal tourneeee Dee-rectoor-man.

Re: Winstar

well I was not gonna go play this thing, but I won the $330 this last monday(10,900), and it also came with a seat. So I play on friday, I still expect this to be a bad structure.
But last year during this time the ring games were good, they even spread a 10-25NL! it was very LAG rem greg?

Yeah, there's pretty much no way that's what actually will happen.

Supposedly there will be 34 tables in the showroom. 10 handed, they can seat up to 340.

Now, you have two options here. Either you run with the premise that the tourney doesn't get the full 1000 players. In that case, well, then you're screwed period.

If you run with the theory that the tourney will get 1000 players, then it's a reasonable expectation that there will be more people that want to play in the tourney than 1000. Each flight has 340 seats. You want to tell me they won't fill each one? Or will they have 31 tables of 10 and then the other 23/24 spread over the remaining 3? Much easier just to fill them all full. So there we are at 340 players per day. Then you have the alternates, the people who get there after that and want to play. You want to tell me that when they break a table they aren't going to maybe allow 10 more people in?

Then there's the ludicrousness of playing down to however many each day. I've heard it's 33 or so. Realistically, they should play down to 45 each day (assuming they pay 100 or 1/10th the field) so that they don't have too many people bust out and then confusion about paying someone on day 1a/b/c. That way you start day 2 with nobody in the money but clarity as to when you reach that point.

But then you stop and think - how long is it going to take each day to bust out to 1/10th of the field? Yes, the structure is probably a bit turbo, but... this is a bit much. And then to get from 100ish to 1 on day 2? It kinda boggles the mind.

Just some thoughts, I haven't looked closely at the structure sheet because I suck at NLHE and pretty much every form of poker these days. Supposedly the whole place will be jampacked starting Wednesday according to one of the dealers, and "weird poker" will be available, so I expect I'll be up there a couple nights this week. And borrowing from Karl. :|

Re: Winstar

Just want to add my two cents about Winstar;

[censored] Winstar. Their rake is too high, they dont comp drinks, I got stiffed by a waitress and the floor didn't do a damned thing. They have a bad beat jackpot that they rake from the [censored] small blind. When they were running sattelites for their Sunday $300 tourney, they were $50 sats, nine man tables, one seat awarded, no cash for first/second, i.e., charging 30% juice on a sattelite that probably has an hour of play to it.

I dont play there anymore. I can play for the same rake in Dallas and get free food and drink, and not have to drive 150 miles roundtrip to do it.

I wish poker players would boycott rooms that dont give us a fair shake. The problem is that it's hard to notice, but it's egregious. You might not notice $1 per pot, or an extra $10 per sattelite, but they're doing it to hundreds of players every day. [censored] Winstar.

Curious that your nick is sort of like the name of a famed underground room in Dallas...

First, I dunno what drinks the room should be comping you. Want a free Pepsi? Go to the machine and there you go. They still don't serve alcohol yet, so I don't know what you were doing, unless you mean Red Bull.

Second, the previous sats were a joke - the current batch has cleared that up. They're 10 handed 100+10 to an 1000+100 tourney. So there's no juice on the sats, they just ride the float, I guess.

I pretty much feel the same way. But they get a lot of players everyday. If anything they should raise the rake. Dumb Texans/Okies will still play. Just look at the ridiculous 50 cent ante blackjack. I'm sure it'll will be a joke of a tournament when they're trying to figure out what to do at the end of each day. Are they playing through the bubble on day 1s?

Anyway, I just can't stand the taking of the BBJ $1 before the [censored] hand is dealt. Drives me nuts.

P.S. Good luck to any 2+2ers playing this weekend.

plano 08-21-2007 08:18 AM

Re: Winstar

Im playing. The $1 take out of the sb for the BBJ is misleading also. 33% goes to the BBJ, 33% goes to the Indians, and 33% goes to taxes from what I hear. But of course they tell you it goes to the BBJ.

.50 a hand BJ is such a joke. If they are going to rape you with their excessive rake or fees on every game you would think you could at least get shitfaced to lessen the blow.

No Comped Drinks- BS, sodas, coffee and tea are free. In room grill serves right at the table.

Stiffed by a waitress? What does that mean, she turned you down?

"I can play for the same rake in Dallas"

Where? I've had friends who chopped a pot three ways at a club that sounds a LOT like your name and they got back $33.00 less than they put into the pot. That is one hell of a wack job on the pot. I've heard of double wacking a pot but $33.00?

Someone else has already mentioned the dangers of a underground cardroom. For those not in Dallas, an omaha game was hit bymultiple robbers one might, they came in shooting with AK47's and a shotgun, as reported on local TV.
No one seriously injured but one player was hit by shrapnel.

Yep, that's so much better than a drive up I-35.

On the satellites, before you play one, you know what they are giving away, if you don't like the odds, don't buy in. $50.00 satellites have a $10.00 fee but then nothing else in your post was all that acurate either.

If you prefer to stay in Texas and play in unsavory locations without protection either physical or ethical games, then good for you, you will not be missed.

Re: Winstar

There are 3 starting days (thur, fri. sat.) with 330 people each day. The top 33 from each day come back Sunday for the final. You get 5k starting chips and 40 min levels. The blinds are 25-25, 25-50, 50-100, 75-150, 100-200 25 ante, 150-300 25 ante 200-400 50 ante, 300-600 50 ante, etc.

hime 08-22-2007 11:14 PM

Re: Winstar

We'll see how many they play down to every day.

The structure looks decent though, it's about 5 hours of play before the blinds get a bit tricky, I'd say.
