Rolex

Peep game, BBV.

I'm out at bob's steak and chop house with my uncle and some other guys last week. Afterwards we decide to play some poker at one of their houses. Someone decides that since no one has a lot of cash on them that we should just keep a tally and settle up next time we see eachother. I didn't really like this too much, b/c I only see these guys three or four times a year, but none of these guys are going to angle out of a gambling debt. What bothered me the most was that I like to pay my gambling debts ASAP b/c I hate owing people money. Whatever.

We're playing 5-5 nlhe, and since no one brought cash, everyone decided they'd play two thousand behind. I get involved in a hand where the following comes up;

one guy opens the pot for $50 (standard) and i call from the button with 9-10 offsuit. the flop comes K-Q-J with two of one suit, he bets $200 and i call. the turn card brings the third spade, the A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], and he bets $1000. I check and see that i have the 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and i call. The river is a baby spade and he moves in on me, and i call. He says he has the nuts, and i wait for him to table his hand, and he has TT, i turn over my flush, gg.

on the way out he asks me if i like watches. i'm like, yeah, sure, why?

he then pulls this off his wrist and says 'you're a good kid, here, hang on to this, my wife just bought me a breitling, call it even'

it's got a little wear on it, small scratches on the band and what not, but i like it:

The [censored] part is that if I want to sell it I've got to get the papers that come with it, and that's going to be a sort of awkward hassle. I'll probably just keep it. It's worth about $3K or so i think.

Re: Rolex

yeah im not big on the blingy diamond or gold watches. it's sort of understated for a rolex.

Re: Rolex

I'm a Breitling guy and have never owned a Rolex but isn't there supposed to be a serial number on the hologram? And I think the crown should be facing up...

If it's real you got it for about the right price for a used one. Here's a new one for $4850:

Re: Rolex

yea there is supposed to be a black serial number on the hologram, and the date magnification looks too large. check out this site it covers fake characteristics http://www.qualitytyme.net/pages/rolex_or_replica.html

snowbank 05-17-2007 04:40 AM

Re: Rolex

I just checked mine and it definitely has a black serial number.

That sucks if he ripped you off. Especially if you know the guy.

Emsterdad 05-17-2007 05:07 AM

Re: Rolex

Yeah, sucks to be ripped off. If your not convinced by the serial check the "wear" on the band (the "gold" shouldnt come off like bumper-crome), and the actual clasp is a fake (see. holes for size-change pins look cheap).

Sry dude, works to get chicks though..

Re: Rolex

If you take the bracelet off the watch head at the 6, the serial number should be inscribed on the head where the bracelet attaches.

It should begin with a letter, you can use the letter to tell how old the watch is (If it is genuine).

Obviously a good fake could have this inscription as well but there is a number you can ring that will tell you if the number matches a genuine watch of that type, or if it is stolen.

when i went to thailand i was taken in this dark alley, and then inside a fake wall inside a store, where 3 big walls were covered full of fake rolexes/cartier/etc watches. they looked and worked exactly like the real things. they were about 50 bucks each. It was damn shady tho and we were scared we'd get robbed.

Yeah, i thought it was a fake too. It says "swiss made" in the bottom, which i think means it's a fake.

oh okay, i thought that's what gives it away, but i guess not. Btw, so does mine and i'd be really surprised if it wasn't a fake.
