Magoo Fest - time to do it again

It has been entirely too long, time for another turgid episode of Magoo Fest!

I'm thinking the first week of august would be perfect. I'm involved with a seminar on poker room rules and procedures, dealer procedures, and decision making that's probably going to happen august 2nd. Anyone interested will of course be welcome to sign up. There will be so many poker guru types in town during Magoo Fest we might as well make it an excuse to get together for any and every reason we can drum up.

The MOST important thing about the next Magoo Fest is that I've got a casino where I can host a brand new and totally crazy tournament idea created by none other than ME, Al_Capone_Junior. I call it the Laggart's Ball. You may think you know how to play tournament poker, but you've never played like this. I'm not revealing all the details yet, but I'm going to tell you two of the MOST important details now:

1. You can get sent to JAIL during the tournament! There will be a jail set up right there in the room, complete with a sadistic warden and everything. And yes, your sorry butt gets blinded off when you're in JAIL.

2. I'm arranging for nothing but HOTT CHICKS to deal the event! The people rejoiced!

There will be limited seating for the first edition of the Laggart's Ball, so this will be by reservation only. I'm expecting at least sixty seats to be available, but likely not many more.

Just like all Magoo Fest events, anyone from 2+2 is welcome, but I do reserve the right to kick you in the nuts. Grinders and Tighty-McWhitey types need not apply, as this tournament will be designed to reward the loose aggressive style of play. Certain "perks" may be available for certain players, such as military veterans and girls!

Of course we'll be having the usual drunken ring games, complete with ridiculously collosal stacks of chips and stupid awards.

Here's another thing I'm wanting to do this year - a Valet contest. Nicest car, biggest POS, most ghetto, most ridiculous vehicle, etc.

I'm going to give a short seminar for anyone interested in becoming a poker dealer, this will be free of charge and open to anyone.

Everything and anything else that we want to do we should go ahead and do it! From serious seminars on strategy to craps fest or whatever, people get off your butts and get with the program.

Please comment here, particularly on the dates. If there is something that would make a different date range better, like cheep rooms or an event in town, speak up and be heard.

I'm not sure if that is the best time for it, as a lot of people will have just been in Vegas for the WSOP... maybe something during or just after the WSOP?

That timeframe works fine for me Al, assuming you are too tired to kick me in the nuts. Hot chicks dealing sounds good, jailtime, not so good though.

Just after maybe, during is out as I'll be working my butt off NOT at the wsop, so I'll actually be enjoying myself and making actual real money.

More comments please?

I'm definitely in if you invite me. Since I won the craps contest at the last one, I think I deserve a spot, yes?

What's a Magoo Fest? Is it something I can just drop in on?

I think this event needs a BingoFest

I've never attended one of these fabled, legendary events and would like to attend the next one.

From what I understand, think about the cartoon character "Mr. Magoo" blindly playing huge stacks of chips at a poker table. He can't see well enough to play decent poker, but he spews mucho chips into the pot. Think any two will do. Also, apparently, large amounts of alcohol are a big plus.

btw, Huge stacks of chips could include so many chips that individual players commandeer rolling carts to bring them to their seats.

Oh yeah, it's a fest because you need to think of 10 players at a table who are all magoos.

Re: Magoo Fest - time to do it again

The first time we had one of these, we bought out the MGM of blue chips between 4 tables! I think the "main" game we were on upstairs had something like 4k in blue (dollars) on it at one time.

This is awesome timing. I allready had a Vegas trip planned for that week. I allready have images of blind capping before the cards are dealt.

Re: Magoo Fest - time to do it again

The term "Magoo" came from this guy Zeus saying that guy plays like the near-sighted Mr. Magoo, he can't even see his own cards and he sure doesn't know what to do with them.

Your suppositions about the chips are not far off. MGM stocks a buttload of extra chips for us during Magoo Fest.

Hi Al,

I've been to at least one Capone Magoofest (upstairs MGM) and thought it was great!

The last one I went to, I got there about 11:00 pm and the 2+2 Magoofest was already over with before I got there! WTF? Is this Nebraska or is this Vegas!!!

Whenever you hold it, PLEASE make it go until at Least midnight. Some of us 2+2 nightowls like to howl!

Thanks,

Hojo Rising

I never stay in hotels here so I'm not sure on when the best rates are, what about near the tail end of the wsop? Speak up people!

August room rates are the cheapest there are except December and the first week of January.

A search on kayak.com for the weekend of August 24th-26th for instance produces sample rates for mid strip hotels of:

Imperial Palace $122/night
Excalibur $144/night
Flamingo/Tropicana/Ballys All ~$150 a night
Paris $179/night
MGM $190/night

The above can probably be had at slightly lower rates as well, espcially if you can take advantage of Harrahs Best Rate Guarantee.

And if someone needs really cheap accomodations there is always Casino Royale, or several downtown places that are actually nice for under $75 a night.

Re: Magoo Fest - more input on dates

Thursday,Friday,Saturday Room Rates from Harrah's rate cards:

.....Jul19,20,21/Jul26,27,28/Aug02,03,04/Aug09,10,11/Aug16,17,18
Flam:150,210,210/70,150,180/110,170,180/100,180,190/100,160,180
Harr:165,210,190/59,169,169/65,99,119/59,129,190/65,119,119
Ball:99,199,199/79,159,179/119,159,179/109,179,199/119,159,179

Not sure the above is parseable, but basically on Thu,Fri,Sat July 19,20,21, Bally's is $165,$210,$190. Only real bargain I see in here is Harrah's on Aug 2-4.
