Relocating to Florida , B&M questions

I accepted a job offer at the Disney Corp. in Orlando and will be relocating right after graduation (3 weeks from now). I just set settled all the paperwork for an apartment in Lake Buena Vista, FL and I started looking up any decent poker leagues and card rooms within driving distance. The bar leagues are in full effect, so I have that covered but this was the closest place I found for live poker.Hard Rock Casino Tampa, FL

My question is for any of you that play here:

Have you all played/done well at the daily SNG's?

"$100 buy-in plus a $20 entry fee
1st place: $450
2nd place: $300
3rd place: $200

$200 buy-in plus a $25 entry fee
1st place: $950
2nd place: $600
3rd place: $400

$500 buy-in plus a $35 entry fee
1st place: $2,450
2nd place: $1,500
3rd place: $1,000

$1,000 buy-in plus a $50 entry fee
1st place: $4,950
2nd place: $3,000
3rd place: $2,000"

-Also, what's up with the .50/1 blinds and minimun $20 buy-in that they promote on the website? Am I reading this correctly?

"The following are the basic rules of Poker:

Structured betting: $1.00 - $2.00
Stud games: Low-card forced bet = $1.00
Flop games: Small Blind = 50-cents Big Blind: $1.00
Minimum buy-in: $20
Rake: 10% with a Minimum of $1.00, Maximum of $5.00"

-I'll be putting in some pretty long hours at work, but I can see myself playing at Hard Rock once or twice a month. I figure I can get my NL tourney fix playing the bar leagues and it will also help me network and find some decent home games. Thanks again in advance.

Ivan

I can't speak for the tourneys (never played), but played at B&M in Miami and as I understand ALL cash games in Florida limited to $2 fixed bets.

Don't cancel your P-stars or FullTilt accounts after moving. You might need them.

So, are you Goofy or Pluto?????????????

Your plan sounds good. From what I understand there isn't much real poker in Florida. However, through these toureys at the Hard Rock you might find a home game. Or you can check out the home game forums and I think there is another site, something like homepokergames.com...can't remember the exact web site. I'll see if I can find it

Legislation passed last week that should, absent a move by the Gov. to kill it, raise the max bet to $5 and allow for NLHE with a max $100 buy in. It will allow bad beat jackpots too. New rules should take effect July 1.

Actually I never deposited any money online. I'm really selective when using my only credit card (paranoid about establishing good credit). For some reason the online deposit just wasn't for me, and i had just started school blah blah blah.

Ahh, just move to Colorado for that. You'll be closer to Vegas and can make the short flight anytime you want

Thanks man As soon as I accepted the job and looked over the relocation details I started figuring out the best way to manage my new income. I haven't had a full time job since I started school, but we'll see how this trainwreck turns out.

I read something about a SunCruz casino in Cape Canaveral. They're supposed to offer some sort of poker.

Re: Relocating to Florida , B&M questions

There are several dog tracks, with poker rooms, that are in the Orlando area. I',m sure there is one closer than the Hard Rock. As was said earlier the hopefully new law allows for $5 max bet for limit and NL games with $100. Right now it is 2/2 limit and tourneys.

Hard Rock is slightly different than what website says. Tourneys are now 125, 250, and 535. Payouts are off a little bit too. They used to take the entire 10% jackpot rake out of the 1st place prize but now spread it over all three. Not sure what tracks are in Orlando area but I can give you the info on any of the Tampa area ones. Also like someone said above, everything is changing on July 1. Dealers have been complaining for days that they have to come in 4 straight Sundays to learn to deal no limit. I think these games might be really juicy as all the nits are so used to playing 2 dollar limit.

I've not run across many nits in a Florida cardroom.

Ivan-it's true the FL cash games are capped(!) at 1-2 limit. I play at the Hard Rock in Hollywood-Miami area and those games are basically a joke--strictly tourists and retired people. The Tampa and Hollywood Hard Rocks are nice properties and can be extremely fun if you don't go there looking to make a substantial profit. The upside is that that they do offer higher buy-in tourneys and SNG's. Good Luck to you.

Not so quick to be happy, you mouse lackey.

The Sanford Orlando Kennel Club in Longwood is the Orlando area dog track and while they are going to year round racing they don't have a poker room. Orlando Jai Alai also doesn't have a poker room.

Strange how all over Florida the dog tracks and jai alai frontons have poker but the stuff in Orlando - no poker. I wonder why not? You need to ask your new Overlords why that is.

The dog track in Daytona had a poker room and you can play their "DAYTONA HOLD'EM" - everyone puts up a $2 ante. I think this game will give way once the action junkies can move to a NLHE game in July but everyone should play it once just for the hellofit.

Port Canaveral has 2 popular casino day cruise ships, the Sun Cruz and the Sterling. The Sun Cruz has poker on selected crusies and I am pretty sure the Sterling doesn't offer poker.

Congratulations on your new job, I'm just sad that you had to sign your soul over to the mouse. Don't worry though, the pain goes away once your heart turns black.

Hard Rock is 45 minutes (60 mi.) from Disney, and is a step above most of the properties in AC.

Daytona Beach Kennel Club is 70 miles (through downtown Orlando) from Disney, and is a dog track. I've never been, but it's a dog track.

Don't speed on Disney property - Osceola and Orange County sheriffs patrol and give tickets now.

Good call. I had a feeling they were gonna fuuck up my christmas somehow. I noticed the Orlando Hard Rock can't even say the word "gaming" without a Disney bitchslap.

Even though my game selection wouldn't include this particular Daytona version of hold em, you're advice on timing and the summer poker blizzard that might erupt after the bill is passed is 100% gold, and I thank you alot for it.

Yea, I checked the website's calender of events and it looks like one of those places I might go to every few months with 2-3 tourney buy-ins and a jovial level of optimism. Nothing more.

You might have been saying this in a cynical manner, but you have no idea how right you are. I have recently been dealing with all the contractual side of this opportunity and it is getting a little scary. The fine print is mindnumbing and it's no wonder they catch us fresh out of the lake.

On the flip side (and what helps me get some shut-eye), it's the first time I will have a steady paycheck that will allow me to play a little here and there without all the hassle of being a broke college student. I digress, we'll see how this train wreck ends.

thanks again to all for the taking the time to give me a heads up.

and does any one have a link about the July 1/2NL that will be played here in Florida...sustainable after rake? thanks!

Re: Relocating to Florida , B&M questions

Your best bet is to find a home game or drive to Port Canaveral to go on the Suncruz. It's a fish factory. For NL, they offer 1/3 100NL, 2/5 300NL and 5/10 600NL (capped) If you just play tight, they are all calling stations and will pay you off. The rake isn't unbearable 10% 5.00 max. They also run 5/10 limit, 10/20 limit, 3/6 limit and 1 table of 10/20 round and round (Hold em, them omaha) The seas can be brutal though, so make sure you take some dramamine. At least the drinks are free from half decent looking girls.

Re: Relocating to Florida , B&M questions

After factoring in dealer tips and rake there are very few people who beat live poker in Florida for a considerable ROI. There are plenty of people that can call themselves winners but the rate that you can win at are a fraction of what most successful online players can sustain. The highest sustainable ROI is easily in the live MTTs as they draw the biggest crowds and have the greatest number of fish.

Dude you are in luck! The legislature just passed new law.
July 1 $100.00 NL and new bet limit up to $5.00.

Good times to come!

Re: Relocating to Florida , B&M questions

well 100nl in FLA should be nice and soft but with that small of a buy in, it hardly makes it worth driving to the casino to play...hourly rate couldn't be great even in supersoft games.

RonH 05-13-2007 09:10 PM

Re: Relocating to Florida , B&M questions

Check the thread in the Legislation forum. There is speculation that due to the wording, if the venues choose to push the envelope, that $100 will be the minimum required buyin. We'll see in July.
