Am I socially \'out of the loop\' since I don\'t have a myspace/facebook?
 

My friends tell me that it's a necessity to have a myspace and/or facebook, but I've never really felt the need to make an account. Am I socially dumb/retarded/out of the loop?

I can't stand myspace. I don't think I've ever seen a myspace page without an absurdly awful page layout.

basically everyone I know from 19-22 (i'm obviously in that range) has a facebook account. It's really not all that exciting, but I see no reason NOT to have one

I'm in the same boat. As a college student, I know very few
classmates who don't have an page at facebook/myspace. People give me [censored] about it all the time.

The only real reason I have a facebook account is to sorta keep up with friends from other parts of the country or overseas. Sadly, it's too hard to keep up with all of them through more personal means such as email or IM or phone. And even so, I rarely check my facebook account.

you have to understand that EVERY girl in college has at least a facebook acct that they check regularly. chicks spend a lot of time looking at their friends' pages and photo albums. if you dont put yourself into their stupid world of tagged pictures of drunken partying you are only hurting yourself, bro.

I use Facebook primarily to keep up with old friends as well as "record" people I meet...it's nice to not have to lose touch with people, and it's very useful to drop someone a line randomly when you feel like it. I was opposed to all these things when I was a senior in college (2000) but I have found them useful since then. Also Facebook is +EV for interaction with females, as stated by an above poster.

yeah facebook/myspace are pretty dumb for talking to your guy friends but they're great for keeping track of girls you want to hook up with. also when girls post [censored] on your wall then other girls see it and it makes you look desirable.

if you don't really care much about girls (not much of a stretch on 2p2) then don't worry about it.

One guy friend of mine used to be obsessed with facebook and got annoyed that I didn't have one and made one for me. I probably never would have gotten around to it otherwise.

You certainly aren't out of the loop but it has helped me get back in touch with people I graduated from HS with that are going to different colleges (of course, a phone or AIM serves the same purpose but whatever).

I like the MyShare section where people can post any video they find from the intrawebz. Other then that and wrting on some friends walls and joining some groups I don't bother with it much.

i have both, although i am not in the market for any succulent young ladies, i just like to keep track of my friends since i am so [censored] bad at it otherwise. myspace seems to have gotten worse and worse over the years, so much spam and spyware and horrible crap.

I finally broke down and made a MySpace page when I said I never would and I'm glad I did. I haven't made a Facebook since I've been out of school for awhile.

facebook is ok if you're in school, no harm in having an account, you don't have too be super active on it or anything, just sorta useful at time.

myspace is teh ghey...anytime i've ever opened a link to a myspace page i have to deal with some idiots gay music, 17 neon colors flashing across the screen and all sorts of scrolling messages and retarded [censored], it's just too much...not to mention the pedophile factor on myspace.

ESPECIALLY if your in school, you should definitly get Facebook. If you're really against it, sign up, put up a profile picture, and join your schools network. Then, tell a few of your chicky friends (or dude friends if they're big into facebook) that you just got it and they should add you.

Trust me, I was just like you at one point in time, and I'm very happy I got an account.

FTR Myspace used to be pretty cool before it became a haven for people making insane pages that crash your browser and pedos. When I started using it it was just lots of plain pages and mostly people looking to hook up/meet friends. Now it is similar except people are looking to meet much younger friends. Facebook was originally kinda bereft of options and interesting stuff until they upgraded it last year or so.

i keep seeing people say this. maybe it's a reflection of the friends you keep or the types/ages of people you're searching for? lots of the random girls that message me have horribly obnoxious profiles but anyone i'm friends with in real life has a pretty tame profile.
