observed hand played by hock

found it in my db when i was looking at some mined hands from the high limits. this is from about a month ago...

hock is the sb.

PokerStars 100/200 Hold'em (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Flop: (1.50 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB bets, BB calls, Button folds.

Turn: (1.75 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB bets, BB calls.

River: (3.75 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB bets, BB calls.

Final Pot: 5.75 BB

Results in white below:
BB has Kc Qd (one pair, kings).
SB has 7s 7h (one pair, sevens).
Outcome: BB wins 5.75 BB.

it doesn't seem like he folds a better hand on the river nearly often enough. can someone explain?

sorry to call you out hock but the only reason i was looking through your hands is because i know you crush it and i'm trying to learn.

Grumpy or not, he ain't too far off.

I don't get it, why does he have to fold a better hand on the river when he is overwhelmingly sure he has the best hand and is going to get called by several worse ones?

Checking the river would not be a good play IMO.

If that's really the case it sounds like high stakes lhe games should be easy for anyone to crush....

Well, he didn't say everyone was an overaggro maniacal donkbox, just a great deal of em', and I wholeheartedly agree. It's a variance rollercoaster that few can handle that's for sure.

This is clearly a bluff, but I dont know how effective its going to be. It looks to me like this 3-street bluff is doomed to fail too many times to be +EV.

I apologize in advance if I'm missing something here, but if everyone is over aggro as Victor suggested, wouldn't you c/c here?

maybe if there were actually hands you beat...

Re: observed hand played by hock

fwiw -- I don't think there are any actually GOOD options here, but in hindsight, I agree that check/fold is probably best.

That said, there are arguments for bet/folding or even check/calling (against some opponents) also.

4 sure it looks like BB has a better hand, and wouldnt fold it on this board, but if BB knows Hock is smart he will know that Hock must know that on this board he has a hand he wont fold, so......

Re: observed hand played by hock

You guys are all making this too complicated.

Hand reading:

BB calls on the flop. He could have a pair, he could be floating to see if we check/fold the turn.

BB calls the turn. Well, he didn't raise preflop, he didn't raise the flop, he didn't raise the turn. He probably doesn't have an ace. It's most likely he has a king or an 8.

The river is a jack, putting an A, K, and J all out there. The pot is big enough to make it worth trying to get an 8 to fold, as that'd be a ballsy call for an 8 to make. So, Hock bets it again, one last attempt to get an 8 to fold.

It's a bad play, simple as that. We all make them, I can dig up a few funny plays others who've replied to this thread made, including me above all since I'm the biggest fish around

Re: action corrected

haha well that changes a lot. Looks like hock was trying to bluff out KQ or KTs? If Katja is decent she cant have a hand like JT or TT (unless its JhTh) that hock might be able to bluff out. Seems like a pretty bad bet.
