What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit...?
Cliff's notes: can someone tell me what the latest state of Visa/Mastercard depositing is for Americans? Besides your bank-issued credit/debit cards, are there some consistently-successful 'derivative' visa/mastercord options; e.g. gift cards?
Preparing myself for a long-overdue move to the USA, and I want to bring myself up to speed on the state of credit card deposits. I talked on the phone recently with Abs, UB, and Bodog, and they all told me the same thing: that credit cards (yes, even US credit cards) are the most frequent deposit method for US customers. When I asked them if they were aware that most US CCs prevent their holders from using them to deposit at gaming sites, reps from all 3 sites said that they were aware that some CCs didn't work, but that a majority (their word, by the way) of US CCs worked just fine...and that some users even found that CCs that had been declined in the past were now working again. Hearing this, my BS-detector was off the charts, because I figured that if it really was so common to be using US CCs to deposit, i would have heard more about it on these boards. But conversely, the consensus seems to be that US CCs (with a few rare exceptions for some debit cards from Wells Fargo or WaMu) are basically done for, as far as using them to deposit. Is my understanding of the situation more or less accurate, or is the picture less bleak than I think? How about Visa Prepaid gift cards...? Based on some 2p2 searching, it seems like a couple months ago, everyone was finding that the Gift2Go cards in the yellow packaging were working just fine (at least at FTP and Stars), and that some people were even finding that cards bought at giftcards.com worked too (although I don't know which one). Has anything changed in this regard? p.s. are there any "virtual visa" cards that can be bought online either , where they'll then email you the card "number" and expiry date, which have been found to work reliably to deposit? |
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit...?
In the last few months I have used my Visa to deposit directly to Bodog and my Visa to deposit to ePassporte which I used to deposit on Poker Stars. I, too, was very skeptical at first. I was even skeptical after the first deposit at Bodog when it didn't show up on my online statement for three or four days. But it showed up eventually, I paid it, and everything is well.
I remember thinking the exact same thing you're thinking when I realized I could use a credit card. I had always thought they wouldn't work. |
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
i used the walgreens gift2go cards about a month ago and it worked perfectly fine , not sure if they still work ...

When you used your Visa, did you get charged extra fees & interest as if it were a cash advance? Or did it just look like a standard purchase?

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit...?
Over the weekend (Saturday) I used a standard HSBC affliated Mastercard credit card to deposit about $280 at Absolute Poker. It worked Instantly. However, since then HSBC's security department has left about 5 messages "inquiring" about the transaction. (I haven't called them back yet)

Wells Fargo debit card FTW

Used a mastercard on Absolute the other day. $100 and no fees.

Some work, some don't.

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Any report on the RushCard prepaid visa (fees seem lower, so I'm curious.

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Followup Question for those who have successfully used their bank's debit/credit card to deposit (esp Wells Fargo and WaMu cards, which seem to have the most success):
Can you WITHDRAW with those cards too?? |
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
i've used both credit and debit cards to deposit on UB; no problems in multiple desposits over the last few months.

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Don't think this question is too off topic for this thread. Can you use the epass credit card to make deposits at sites like prima and bodog (and if so, for what fee)? Also, can you use the credit card to withdraw funds as well?
|
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
I used a Chase Rewards Mastercard on both Full Tilt and Absolute with no problem. No fees.
Withdrawals can't go back on the card though. |
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
You have to withdraw by check. Withdrawals cannot be processed through the credit cards.

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Bump - need to use giftcards to deposit on stars this weekend. Anyone done this very recently? Wal-Greens gift cards still work?
|
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
For stars I was able to use the paytru option in about ten minutes of time using my debit card, I recommend this option as best. I did use the walgreens yellow card about two weeks ago to deposit on WPEX but not stars.
|
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Hmm I think I might be screwed for the deposit bonus if I go the yellow card route anyway - if I use six $100 cards it would probably only give me the bonus on the first card.
|
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
I bet if you contact stars support they would let you use six cards and credit the full bonus. Support is your friend. They will probably prefer to guide you to paytru tho.
|
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Ya I e-mailed them right before my post.
[ QUOTE ] Hello, If I use 6 pre-paid visa cards worth $100 each will I get the deposit bonus for $600 or just the first $100? [/ QUOTE ] Will report back what they say. |

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Ugh no haggling with stars? I have so much on stars relative to the limits I play, which they can check, that a $600 deposit would only incur fees for both Stars and me, especially if I use Paytru. Ship at least $30 in fees to unrelated processors

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Making a deposit today to ABS. I plan to get a Walgreens pre-paid VISA. What fees can I expect to incur to purchase the VISA ($100 value)? I remember buying a VISA gift card at Safeway and the fees seemed REALLY high.

Lots still work at WPEX.

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
I deposited to some online casinos with a BoA debit which worked fine, haven't tried Stars yet though. Can't withdraw back to them and they usually call you because it shows up as a weird company, but they didn't care what it was as long as it wasn't fraud by someone else.

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Does anyone know if you can withdraw from Stars to their prepaid Visa card and then use that to deposit to Full Tilt, and if so, what the limits are? thanks
|
Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
Don't all prepaid Visa cards work at these online sites? I don't see why any of them would be blocked.

The first step is to find the biggest Ford auto dealership you can find. Convince them to loan you money so you can go across the street and buy a Chevy. Once you have that done, report back. |

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
hey again. Can i deposit into Full tilt poker using my Bank of America debit card ? What about a credit card from a local bank? I used the boa debit card on bodog easily and it worked using a credit card on ultimatebet but had to do it through the phone.

Quick question: Running out to the store now, do the wallgreens visa gift2go cards still work on stars? Thanks.

Re: What\'s the latest news on the state of US credit cards to deposit.
My Pre-Paid Visa Card story -
I went to Wal-Greens and they had a little note up saying gift cards can only be purchased with cash - I needed to pay with credit so I left. That Wal-Greens is in a "shady" neighborhood so YMMV regarding policy. I went to the grocery store and they had a large rack of gift cards. I notice some $50 Visas and it says on the card "Must be bought with cash" so I'm like blehhhh. Then I notice some All-Access Visa cards that don't mention cash and they're for $100. I decide to try 2 of them and go to the self checkout. Of course the self checkout has a loud voice that says "ONE HUNDRED FIVE DOLLARS AND NINETY FIVE CENTS" x2 which of course makes me say blehhhh again. So I swipe my visa and sign and it says approved. Then the checkout says, "PLEASE WAIT - AUTHORIZATION NEEDED". The girl comes over and presses some keys and says have a nice day and I say Victory is mine! That was yesterday so today I went and bought a couple more at the same store and took them to a regular checkout. The 16 year old dude was reading the back of the card packaging while I was paying with my visa. All was approved but I think he was a little bit suspicious. It's not that I was doing anything wrong it just seems like buying credit cards with a credit card would rank high on the "fraudulent" chart in a sales clerks eyes. Anyway, I tried them five minutes ago on Stars and they all worked fine. The cards themselves are Grey and the packaging was Black and the "name" is All Access Visa. |
