looking for a good poker chip set 500+

not sure if this is the right forum but if it's not then maybe a mod can move it.

i have been thinking of trying to get a nice set of 500 or more chips. i have a set of 300 chips but sometimes for our games that is not enough if more than 6 people or so turn up. i wondered if people could recommend some places to look for chips. obviously i would like some nice quality ones, maybe even design my own, but i want the best deal possible. i's love paulsons or nevada jacks or something cool. im not really interested in a cheap set. i am based in the uk.

also, are the poker sets offered by any of the online poker rooms any good? would it be worth trying to get one of them?

The people at Chiptalk will be all over this.

In the USA, I would suggest going with custom ceramics. But I do not know how much shipping, VAT, etc. will cost for you in the UK ordering from here.

Go to Chiptalk. You will be amazed. There is a vendor MrChip from Sweden that can probably take care of you.

ebay. Usually tons of paulson, chipco, etc at pretty good prices. Expensive, but good prices for what they are.

I bought a set of 500 Paulson Pharaohs and I couldn't be happier with them.

Everyone in my home games loves them. I got the version with denominated chips but they also sell non-denominated as well.

Check em' out.

I second this. Got a wsop replica set for my tournaments and a paulson JB 2005 set for cash games. Both are awesome!

I strongly suggest that before you buy a whole set, get some samples. See if you like ceramics or clay chips. Here's a couple more places that sell chips: www.sidepot.com (imo they have some of the best looking chips) and www.holdempokerchips.com (check out the Samurai Palace chips).

Also, if you are going to get nice chips, get good plastic cards to go with them.

I've looked around for plaques in the past but I could never find any that I liked. There were some mediocre ones on eBay for like $10/each

Again, www.chiptalk.net is the source for chip info. I have seen plaques reviewed, etc. They are the best starting point for chips if you want something special.

Re: looking for a good poker chip set 500+

I highly recommend Mr. Poker Chips -- I ordered from them earlier this year and the entire experience was great. Their customer service is awesome!

Check out the Nexgens -- I ordered the Multi-Colored Edge Spot chips and am very happy with them. I got 1000 chips for just over $300 - which included shipping and hotstamping on both sides.

It all boils down to how much you want to spend. You can get a customized clay chip set of 1000 for about $1 a chip. So, if you want to spend that much that may be the way you want to go.

Here are some pics of my chips...

You can get nexgens cheaper than that. I got a set of 1k on sale from overstock.com for $150 shipped. No hot stamping though.
