How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
This thought came to me when I saw (another freaking) commercial for Blade of Glory. I'd never ever seen Jon Heder as anything beside Napoleon Dynamite because left such a great impression as Napoleon. Any other actor rings a bell? I think Heder is the best rep for this category.

Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Sadly anyone from Seinfeld, I love the show but I can't watch anything any of them are in anymore. Also, "left such a great impression as Napoleon" ... am I the only one who hated that movie?
|
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Oh it's not like I liked that movie or anything. I was indifferent about the plot (if there was any), and the girl (not hot). But Heder just played such a perfect geek/nerd/dork/retard that draws comparison to Hoffman in Rainman (okay maybe not THAT great)

Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
James Gandolfini as anything other than Tony Soprano does not work.
|
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Vince Vaughn will always be Norman Bates to me.
|
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Rob Schneider is The Stapler.
|
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
For me, every actor/actress in The West Wing.

Jennifer Aniston as Rachel.

Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
I have to admit, I just saw The Departed last night with Leonardo & MarkyMark, and worried I'd be distracted by the choice of actors; it was fine.
We act like they're set in stone, but if Jon Heder can get a few real movies under his belt, he might escape the ND role. -Sam |

Jennifer Aniston as Rachel. [/ QUOTE ] Luckily every Friends actor plays a single role in every movie/show they do. Thinking of Aniston as Rachel is practically required, since most directors are counting on that type-casting instead of doing any character developement. |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
following almost every response in this thread, every dynamite tv show's characters will always be that character. kiefer will always be jack bauer. dennis haysbert (or whatever his name is) will always be president palmer. everyone from deadwood, entourage, rome, the sopranos, etc. some more: tommy lee jones as the character in fugitive/us marshals and brosnan as bond
|
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Tobey Maguire as Spiderman

Vince Vaughn will always be Trent from Swingers to me. [/ QUOTE ] Also, the entire cast of Saved By The Bell, obviously. James Gandolfini is great as Tony, but he was also good and believable in Crimson Tide and 8mm. Tobey Maguire was believable as the jockey in Seabiscuit. I always thought I would stereotype Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard, until I saw X-Men. ScottieK |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
I agree, Scottie. The fact that he was not subject to the same fate as William Shatner is most impressive.

Ned Beatty in Deliverance is the classic case of this I believe.

Have to throw this in here for an older one. Larry Linville will always be Frank Burns.

Henry Winkler will always be Arthur Fonzarelli. Ron Howard will also never be a director. He is just Richie Cunningham, a united states soldier.

Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
I think this tends to happen most with decent (not great) or worse actors in iconic roles.
Mark Hammill in Star Wars even though most of the other actors were able to get beyond their roles Henry Winkler as someone mentioned is a good choice It might happen to Frodo Adam West as Batman Better actors are able to change their presence more -- (Hanibal Lecter, Forrest Gump, Chauncey Gardner) |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Seeing rodney dangerfield in Natural Born Killers made me laugh since hes always been Al, Thornton, and Larry Burns to me.

Kiefer had too many rolls under his belt to be forced into that box. Although i'll go 30 rolls into his career and always see him as Dr. Daniel P. Schreber. |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Bill Paxton will always be the the guy from "True Lies" to me. Altho in my head his character from true lies is the same character from Aliens, he didn't die, instead of exploding with Michelle Rodriguez's mother he was popped into a different universe. GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!!!
I guess you could argue then that I really just see him as the character from Aliens, but please don't because you would only look foolish. |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Tony Danza will always be the Italian guy from NYC named "Tony"...oh, wait.
I wish Heather Graham would always be Rollergirl. Seriously, though, and not that they have huge bodies of work, but I don't think I could see John Ratzenberger and George Wendt as anything but Cliff and Norm. |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
John Goodman as Dan from Roseanne

Sadly anyone from Seinfeld, I love the show but I can't watch anything any of them are in anymore. [/ QUOTE ] It's funny, because I could never picture Michael Richards as anything buy Stanley Spadowski from UHF. I never watched Seinfeld much partly because of that. Also, Michael Chiklis for me will always be Vic Mackey, but my dad had a hard time buying into his character because all he could see was Chiklis as The Commish. |

I always thought it was unfortuante how in every movie, Andre the Giant always seemed to be type-cast as this enormous half-wit.

Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
I've come to love Entourage so much, that I fear if I see the main roles in anything other than that, I'll hate them. I don't want to do that.
Though, the only one of that show I've seen a lot of is Jeremy Piven, and he's a good actor so he's not stapled to Ari Gold. I agree with Gandolfini = TS. I personally never see Adam Sandler in a non-Happy Gilmore light. And last, but definetly not least... Will Ferrell. Every single damn movie he does is the same. It's not that I don't find some of his sketches on SNL or some of his lines funny, it's that his character in every movie in the last 10 years of his is just rehashed over and over. I might not be able to pinpoint a certain role, but he's the exact same character and I hate it every time. |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
Although he's had so many roles, for me:
Keanu Reeves ... Ted Logan I can not tell you how often my brain adds an unspoken "dude" to nearly every line Keanu says in any movie. Ray |
Re: How I will never see these actors as another character ever again
The problem with guys like Vince Vaughn, Adam West, William Shatner, etc., is not so much that you will always identify them with their previous characters, but that you will always see them as Vince Vaughn, Adam West, William Shatner, etc. Their real-life persona is so dominant in our minds that you don't think "Oh, that's Batman trying to play a doctor." Instead you think, "Oh, that's Adam West being himself and camping it up as usual."
James Gandolfini is a great example of what OP is actually talking about because he's apparently nothing like Tony Soprano in real life but will always be remembered as that character. |
