Sahara vs Circus Circus
My quest for tight-fisted cheapo weekend lodging in Vegas this summer has led me to these 2 casinos and hopefully their poker rates.
Does any Vegas-savvy individual have a reason why one is better than the other? I played a tournament at Sahara in 05, never been to the CC. |
Re: Sahara vs Circus Circus
And you never want to go, either.
Though CC has a marginally better location, it is definately not worth the time. Their poker room is horrid, and they spread low limit only, usually 3/6LHE or 4/8LHE. AFAIK, NL is very rarely spread if ever. Sahara spreads 2/4LHE, and 1/2NL every day (though the NL games doesn't get going until the late afternnoon, usually). The tournaments are great at Sahara, and the place has character. CC is a dump, and the sooner they implode that disgusting cesspoool, the better. |
Re: Sahara vs Circus Circus
I dunno about the poker rates, but Sahara wins out for a few good reasons:
1.) Kids. CC has em, Sahara doesn't. 2.) Tournaments at Sahara are definitely ok for small rollers. 3.) Poker is better at Sahara in terms of quantity of game offerings. CC's poker room sucks. 4.) Monorail station. Its still too far to walk from CC to anywhere really, so the availibility of the monorail station is a bonus. |

[/ QUOTE ] I am pretty cheap and I do not know if I would even stay at either of these. Given only these two choices I would pick the Sahara if only because there is a monorail stop there and that gets you to the rest of the strip easy and cheap. Sounds like the poker room there is a better choice as well and if you are intent on getting a poker room rate that is also important. Seriously though, you might want to consider a different place like the IP, the Orleans or stay downtown and ride the Duce to the strip or something. |
Re: Sahara vs Circus Circus
Agree with Fishwhenican. If I had to choose between the two I would take the Sahara (I have stayed there, it was fine, and the low roller action is decent).
However, if looking to go cheap I would much rather stay at the Orleans. |

But I learned poker in Greektown, Detroit [pounds chest]. I am sure that nothing in Vegas can faze me. Does the Sahara have soft 3/6 or larger lhe games? And does its tourney reputation attract a lot of rocks? |

Circus Circus = THE WORST VEGAS RESORT ... Period

Sahara has 2/4, NL1/3 (it changed from NL1/2 a couple weeks ago--this seems to be the latest in-thing in Vegas poker rooms), and sometimes, rarely, some sorta 4/8 spread-limit thing. Rocks at 2/4 and 3/6? Not really an issue. |
Re: Sahara vs Circus Circus
Bav is correct. 2/4 is the only LHE that is consistently spread. 1/3NL has a $500 max is a pretty good game.
The tournament has a LOT of regulars, but I wouldn't call them rocks. Even the few that are are very prediticable and you will know how the regs play after a half hour at the most. |

[/ QUOTE ] Kids as in teensy tiny human beings that are not allowed to legally gamble in a casino yet are allowed to do all sorts of annoying things like run around screaming and hollering and peeing in the pool and stuff. [/ QUOTE ] In that case, look more into staying at Orleans which is MUCH nicer and only a few minutes drive from great low roller rooms at MGM and Excalibur. Also check into Golden Nuggets room special(listed on their website) as it is like $59-69 a night on weekdays($99 weekends) and their new pool area just rocks. Unless you are getting Sahara for like $39 weekdays/under $79 weekends, you really should look around a bit more for a better place to stay. |
Re: Sahara vs Circus Circus
I agree with most everyone else here that the CC is an armpit, but one thing needs to be said. It is the softest poker room I have ever come across. One of the toothless wonders insisted he had the winning straight, never mind that he only had 4 cards to the straight. Just like Poker Stars, CC doesn't give credit for 4-card straights either.
So this guy reloaded 3 times at $40 a pop, each time I was pretty sure it was the last $40 to his name. I guess we did find the bottom when he tried to buy in for $12 which included pocket change but the dealer wouldn't let him. Three other players had a clue, but the rest of the seats kept getting filled astonishingly bad players. |
Re: Sahara vs Circus Circus
If this person is asking for poker room rates at CC and Sahara, then he probably can't afford the monorail.
Seriously though, if you're going to rent a car and you want to play on the cheap, just you can probably get a better room downtown than at one of those 2 places. I've never stayed at Orleans so I can't comment, but I've stayed at GN for under $50 on a weeknight. If you really don't mind barebones, I've stayed at the Vegas Club (or whatever it's called now) for like $30/night. Parking down there is easy and plentiful....so are drunken white trash chicks when the FSE shows. |

Or he's from Toledo and doesn't beleive in spending more than 80$ on anything.
