Bledsoe Retires
We Patriot fans now tend to dismiss him because of Brady and all the playoff seasons and Super Bowls but I think we all owe him a debt of gratitude.
Three men, imo, saved the Patriots franchise. It's easy to forget that New England was the laughing stock of the league and we were on the verge of losing the franchise. I credit Bob Kraft, Bill Parcells and Drew Bledsoe for restoring credibility and saving the franchise. |
Re: Bledsoe Retires
yea, bledsoe was a very good player back in the day...imagine if mo lewis (??) didn't knock him out of that game, forcing brady into action...things might have turned out very different...

Re: Bledsoe Retires
Thanks, Drew! Great Career!
|
Re: Bledsoe Retires
they will be erecting a statue for him outside Gillette Stadium soon enough.
Drew says until that happens he will fill in as the statue until the stone version arrives. |
Re: Bledsoe Retires
I'm going to disagree with your assessment, Toro. Bledsoe had tremendous talent, no doubt, but he lacked talent from the neck up. I remember wishing the Pats would swing a deal to trade Bledsoe for the Peyton Manning pick.
A gifted athlete with not a thought in his head. |

Re: Bledsoe Retires
Well yes, by then, Bledsoe had already restored the Patriots back to credibilty and had taken them as far as he was able.
And get over to OOT, they want you to comment on Kurt Vonnegut's death, whoever the [censored] that is. |
Re: Bledsoe Retires
I heard that Bledsoe actually made this decision in 2005, but it took him a while to release it.

After Brady took over for him and he was ready to play there was a pretty hot Brady/Bledsoe debate going on in Patriots Nation and I was most definitely in the Brady camp. But having said all that, he and the others mentioned restored the Patriots back to respectibilty and for that and the fact that the guy was and is a class act, I am grateful. |

Re: Bledsoe Retires
Prior to Bledsoe arriving in 1993, the Patriots were a combined 9-39 for the preceding 3 seasons. His rookie year they got off to a slow start but finished strong.
His second year, with a pretty weak roster his arm and Parcell's coaching got them in the playoffs, two years later they got to but lost in the Super Bowl. For success starved Pats fans, this was pretty damn good. |
Re: Bledsoe Retires
^^as a jets fan, i can definitely relate, the frachise was miserable (i think it was 6,3,1 win seasons over 3 years), but parcells came in and brought martin with him...
hard to put into words how happy i was when the team started winning again... props to bledsoe, he was a bit slow in the pocket, but bad luck also hurt him a lot...very good player anyway... |

Re: Bledsoe Retires
Lol at the anti-Bledsoe sentiment. Isn't he in the top 10-15 in many statistical categories for QB's?

Thursday, April 12, 2007 Football Sucks. I Quit. I'm going to make my official statement on StraightCashHomey.net some time today. Basically, I've outgrown the game. This site is great because it did live commentary during the last Cowboys' playoff game- the one in which Tony Romo fumbled the game winning field goal attempt. |

Not remotely close to HoF though for anyone that watched him play on a regular basis. |
Re: Bledsoe Retires
Granted without the Lewis hit, there would be no Brady, but EVERYONE forgets Drew stepping up in the AFC Championship in Pittsburgh when Brady went down on their way to the first Super Bowl win. This, after not playing for 14 weeks.
Solid career, he's Bernie Kosar with a ring. No HOF though. |

I can't imagine how he could be. He's just played on such bad teams and never seemed consistent. [/ QUOTE ] hes like top 10 in a lot of 'all time' categorys. anyways from WIKI [ QUOTE ] He currently ranks fifth all-time in career attempts and completions, and is seventh all-time in career passing yardage. He is tied with John Hadl and Peyton Manning for 13th all-time in career touchdown passes. Among active quarterbacks, he stands second behind only Brett Favre in career completions, attempts and passing yards. He and Manning are tied for second behind Favre in career touchdowns. In 2000, he became just the fourth quarterback in league history to have seven consecutive 3,000-yard passing seasons. In 2005, he recorded his ninth career 3,000-yard passing season, tying him with Warren Moon for fourth in NFL history. In 2005 he also became just the 10th player in NFL history to reach the 40,000 passing yard plateau, reaching the mark in his 172nd career game, the fifth fastest player to reach that milestone. Bledsoe holds the NFL record for pass attempts in a season with 691 in 1994 and also has the third best mark with 636 in 1995, those marks coming during a three-year span (1994-96) that he led the league in pass attempts. He also holds the league record for pass attempts (70) and completions (45) in a game, setting the mark against Minnesota on Nov. 13, 1994. In that game, he also threw no interceptions, setting a league mark for pass attempts in a game without an interception. His 400 completions in 1994 are the third best total in league history, and he is also tied for fourth in NFL history with six 400-yard passing games. In 1993-94 he had a string of four-straight 300-yard passing games, the sixth longest streak in league history. In his career, Bledsoe has four overtime touchdown passes, the most in NFL history.
