Where have all the mid-limit limit hold\'em games gone?

There were a lot of 10/20 and 20/40 games on Paradise, and a ton of 10/20, 20/40 and 30/60 games on Party. Where are all these players playing now?

Stars, Tilt and Doyle's picked up a bit, and Tilt even more when Doyle's closed. But that's only a small fraction of the players who were playing. I find it hard to believe most these players just stopped playing. Stars is still mostly tournaments and Tilt is still mostly no-limit.

Anyone know where I can find a site with a lot of these limit games, especially the 20/40 and 30/60?

Thanks.

The number of players is drastically down at all limits. A lot of U.S. players simply quit.

People have started to realize that betting $40 into a $400 pot is ridiculous and wrong under any circumstances.

Last night on fulltilt (8 to 11 PM) EVERY SINGLE no-limit table 2/4 or less was full and almost all the higher ones. Same with Omaha h/l and HORSE. I havent played limit hold-em in a while, so I cant say about that. But the idea that "all the players have gone" is BS.

Re: Where have all the mid-limit limit hold\'em games gone?

I would say the numbers are slightly down. However, I think there has been an overall shift from limit to no-limit over the past three years since no-limit is all we ever see on television.

I think we are seeing a huge deline in usa players, I personally have nearly quit online playing, its such a huge hassle and it seems like no cashouts are a sure thing at this point...

If you check your local B & M, youll find volume up 150%...

The UIGEA has put a monster dent in all of our incomes, i still just cant believe how ridiculous the us government is being.

it will take 3/4 years just to work back out if the us gov is aggressive against it...
i think we are 5/6 minumum with a 65% chance it gets tighter and doesnt loosen up until USA casinos get in on it and they figure out how to tax it.

Re: Where have all the mid-limit limit hold\'em games gone?

Thanks for the responses.

I guess there are no sites with a lot of mid-limit hold'em games. Shame. I guess the days of getting 300+ plus hands per hour playing four tables is over, at least for now.

And yes, I know a lot of players switched to no-limit, but that happened before the law changed. But more relevant is that NEW players are playing no-limit more than limit, especially if they join sites like Full Tilt because of the TV commercials.

I just find it hard to believe that all these players just stopped playing online and suspected there might be a new "Party" site out there I didn't discover yet. But given how easy it was to beat 20/40 Paradise and 30/60 Party, I guess there was mostly fish in those games too.

It's a shame. Short-handed limit games are so much fun. You get to play a lot of hands for profit.

No-limit is more boring to me. Besides, I suppose there aren't that many no-limit games with 5/10 blinds or higher, which plays about as high at the 20/40 limit games.

No Limit is King for the moment. (I recently switched from 5/10 LHE to NL)

Used to be that the biggest game online was the 300/600 Limit on Crypto... Now you have 200/400 NO LIMIT running daily.

Lots of No Limit players at every level. Come on in, the water is fine!

Online limit started dying even before UIGEA. When Party brought in 12-tabling 1 1/2 years ago, things got tougher- it's like the good players multiplied. Then they brought in resizable tables. Bots, nits, player aids made the game too difficult for the casual player.

Luckily NL got popular, but then UIGEA struck. Losing the casual American player has really put a damper on online poker.

If you're going to play poker, it's got to be NL. Limit is dying out in B&Ms too.

I played online for almost 4 years. I was never in the same league with most of you guys as I stuck to 2/4 and 5/10 stud. I did play at 3 sites usually and while I didnt make a fortune, I averaged 300-500 a month consistantly. This was enough to cover my bike payment & ins and some nice xmas jewelry for the wife. I cashed out 2 days before the hammer fell and I am starting to miss the extra money I made. I have found myself goin to the boats more often and playing BJ and entering the hold em tournies they have. I rarely went to the boats before. It just seems like to much work to fund my poker accounts and then worry if I will be able to cash out. I did leave like 100 in each account and I go on once a week and play a 1.00 tourney just to keep activity in hopes people in power come to their senses, but in answer to your question, yes, alot of us U.S. players have basically stopped playing online in the mid range.
BTW, these forums are fantastic, and thank you to all the posters that keep me informed daily about the situation. And to those of you still playing, I'm jealous.

I too emptied my neteller account the day that the UIGEA passed. No way was I waiting the 270 days. I'm glad I acted when I did.

I went about 6 months without depositing anywhere, then one day I decided to try my credit/debit card to see if it would work. IT DID! I then did some research and found that traffic is actually UP since the UIGEA. (minus the initial drop of course) So I am merrily getting trampled at the uNL tables, but I am learning. You should buyin somewhere with rakeback, the games are great!

Of course. Two years ago I played mostly no-limit.

Just for giggles I checked out stars, tilt and UB. UB had a few tables of 5/10, stars had several and so did tilt. But all three put together didn't equal what Party had in 20/40 or 30/60 on a good night.

I don't know how Party's policies effected their limit games, but the number of limit table increased drastically over the past few years, especially at the higher limits. True, no-limit increased even more, but limit wasn't dying. It's increased in B&Ms too, at least at the larger ones at the higher limits.

-Another midstakes minbet hold'em player who switched to no limit.

Went on a pretty gross downswing right after Neteller went away and took a decent chunk of my bankroll with them. I was forced to move down or do something else. Grinding small stakes minbet sucks so I decided to give NL a whirl. It's a game with a fraction of the variance and wayyyy more fish in the sea. Haven't looked back. Such a pity I spent my first year of poker learning limit.

OK, so what's the 2+2 book we limit suckers should read first? Does NLTAP apply to smaller stakes?

EDIT: Doesn't have to be 2+2, of course. Just 2+2 quality.

I have NLTAP and it is over my head.

I think the best place to start is the NL forum stickies. Especially Pokey's posts.

One measure I just learned the hard way. WTSD should be ~20% (Which seems insanely low for limit players), while keeping the W$@SD > 50%. Mine is currently WTSD 26% and W$@SD 40% and I am bleeding like a stuck pig.

If by "several" you mean 3-4 tables then I wonder what time did you look. Stars has in the range of 30+ tables of 5-10 and 10-20 at peak times.

Re: Where have all the mid-limit limit hold\'em games gone?

Nobody really plays limit outside of the US, so it was the most affected by the legislation. Many of the good limit players (including the non-US limit players) moved over to NL because of the lack of action, thus exacerbating the effect.

Stars is currently the best place to find a limit game.

Which B&Ms are you referring to? Commerce gets 5+ 40-80s, 3 60-120s, and 2 100-200 limit holdems every day...

before television they had 2 or 3 40 games, a 30 game, and 1 or 2 80 holdems...

granted commerce is the biggest place in the world for limit holdem, but their limit games have doubled since television... they also of course now have many more NL tables as well...

bellagio limit holdem action has also benefitted from tv, the games are much better than they were 5 years ago, many more tourists in the mix...

Re: Where have all the mid-limit limit hold\'em games gone?

Maybe Commerce and the Bellagio are exceptions, because they're one of the few to offer mid-stakes limit.

All up and down the Vegas Strip, low stakes limit games are mainly dead - very tight, no action. Most of the tourists and action junkies have switched to NL, as have a lot of the regular locals. Mid stakes limit players are finding it increasingly difficult to find good games.

The money is in NL.
