no don imus discussion?
the guy is beyond boring/unfunny/retarded/ugly but i think him being suspeneded over his recent comments is absurd.
link to comments/suspension. |
Re: no don imus discussion?
they're talking about this over in EDF. ugghh sublime the problem with this thread is that listening to people in OOT give opinions about race makes everyone simultaneously stupider and angrier. it's like huffing paint. angry paint.

Re: no don imus discussion?
What would you consider suspensionable?

Re: no don imus discussion?
ftr i think the guy is a moron racist, however i dont see why on his 'edgy' show he should be reprimanded for saying something stupid. our society is filled with a bunch of vaginas.
|
Re: no don imus discussion?
Meh. Imus has been on the radio forever and should know better so I have no problem with him getting spanked for being stupid. I think it is better to call people on that kind of crap than not to. If no one says you're being an idiot you are less likely to stop doing idiotic things.
|
Re: no don imus discussion?
LMFAO
i am listening to imus on al sharptons show last night and its unreal funny. two blabbering idiots arguing with each other. its really unreal funny. |
Re: no don imus discussion?
he makes fun of black people, rap station morning shows make fun of whitey, its all a wash in the end.
people like o'reilly are spewing much worse venom on a daily basis and people actually watch his show. i think he should be canned, but that is just based on the fact that he's impossibly lame. |
Re: no don imus discussion?
he should be fired for looking like a lizard and not being able to speak english.
|
Re: no don imus discussion?
Imo, Imus is embarassing himself more in the aftermath, with the groveling apologies trying to save his job.
He has made a living being arrogant while making fun of the way people act and now he's acting just like the people he spoofs. Be a man, say you made a mistake and say you are willing to take the consequences even if that means losing the gig. Tearfully telling us that you're a "good" person who said a "bad" thing is pathetic. |
Re: no don imus discussion?
PR stunt?
|
Re: no don imus discussion?
i've always hated imus so i have to root for him to lose his job.

Re: no don imus discussion?
Well at least Imus gave the race pimps like Sharpton and Jackson something to do for a while. I was watching the Rutgers press conference just now, and they acted like it was the worst thing to happen to race relations since the Rodney King beating. If something that some old fart on the radio says offends and/or hurts your self-esteem, then you need help. Get over it! Let the listeners decide what happens to his show. The show is on MSNBC so not too many people could be watching it anyways, and I know no one that listens to it on the radio.

Re: no don imus discussion?
yes, this is interesting because the imus show is supposed to be politically incorrect right? doesn't howard stern say similar things?
i heard imus say that black men call black women "hoes" all the time. was it just the nappy headed part that was offensive? anyway, if people don't like imus, they will not listen, but i bet his ratings go up after this at least for a while. |

Re: no don imus discussion?
Nobody watches women's basketball and nobody listens to Imus, what is the big deal.
|
Re: no don imus discussion?
I didn't know "nappy" was a racial slur.
|
Re: no don imus discussion?
yeah I guess my problem with the whole thing is that he didn't drop an "N" bomb, all he did was make comments about their hair, and them possibly being [censored] (loosely based on the fact that they have tattoo's I guess?). So apparently now, you can't make comments about anyone that is a minority. Somehow, because he used slang commonly used by african americans, that made it a racial slur...I don't quite understand.
I'd be more upset that the comment is just stupid in general, but it didn't strike me as particularly racist. |

I didn't know "nappy" was a racial slur. [/ QUOTE ] I went to a middle school that was ~50% black... "nappy" was a generic word that everyone seemed to use to refer to messy hair. My white friends and I made fun of each other for having "nappy" hair all the time... I had no idea it usually only referred to black people's hair. I'm sure people were LOL at us always talking about nappy this and nappy that. |
Re: no don imus discussion?
I don't like what he said, but I absolutely loathe the fact that because someone says something offensive he now has to be canned.
Why? If you don't like what he says, don't listen. It's the sick direction of our country unfortunately. |
Re: no don imus discussion?
I think the most offensive thing about it is not that Imus made racist remarks but after years and years of having a terrible, boring and predictable show, Imus is still on the air to begin with.

When I read his comment his comments I was thinking what an idiot he was for saying that. Did he not think he was going to hear it for making those rude comments? But I didn't think/know they were racist at all. |

I can't believe these girls are going to be recieving college degrees. |

It's the sick direction of our country unfortunately. [/ QUOTE ] The government hasn't taken any action to "can" Imus. No person or entity has the ability to force the employer to fire Imus. Imus' employer listens to Imus, listens to Sharpton, listens to others in the public, and the employer makes a decision. If you don't like Imus' employer's decision, don't support Imus' employer. If you disagree with Sharpton or Jackson, speak out against them. But why is it there is something wrong with "the sick direction of our country" when this incident is just an example of the free market at work? |

the guy obv isn't a racist. 10% of the kids at his ranch are black. he's not a white person that doesn't know any african americans.

Re: no don imus discussion?
I can't imagine Imus ever calling a white woman a "nappy-headed ho." I think the insults were race and gender-specific.

[/ QUOTE ] let me rephrase: Nobody cares about Imus. What he said wasn't all that bad anyway. Why is everybody spending so much time talking about this? The only newsworthy story here is how Imus has stayed on the air all these years despite not having an audience, not being funny, and not even really being able to talk. |
