famous extras/cameos in movies
i was watching The Dead Pool on tv the other day and noticed Guns n Roses (well at least Slash, Duff McKagen and Axle) in the background during a scene at a funeral. it reminded me that The Clash appeared in the background of a street scene in Scorsese's King of Comedy. can any of you think of any other famous cameos or extras in movies? by this i mean blink-and-you'll-miss-it type appearances, not ones where the stars actually had lines or anything. it doesn't have to be musicians, it's coincidental that my examples are rock groups.

Re: famous extras/cameos in movies
Staying with the theme of musicians appearing in cameos:
The Tragically Hip played themselves as a curling team in Men With Brooms. Note: I don't expect anyone who isn't Canadian to have heard of either The Hip or that movie but still... |

Jon Bon Jovi's back in Young Guns II. [/ QUOTE ] I think Tom Cruise is in one of the Young Guns movies. He's dressed up as a gunfighter and has a big fake beard so he's unrecognizable, then gets shot or something. |
Re: famous extras/cameos in movies
Billy Crystal and Dana Carvey are the mimes in Spinal Tap at the record company party. I don't think Carvey was famous at the time, though.

Re: famous extras/cameos in movies
Flea's best line from Lebowski:
[The Dude's in the bathtub] Nihilist (walking away): We're going to cut off your johnson Lebowski. Flea: Yeah, then we'll stomp on it and squish it. Also, the guy who played Mike Teevee in the original Willy Wonka is in Lebowski. Who he plays, I cannot tell you. Keeping with Mr. Scorcese, look for Iggy Pop in The Color of Money. He's one of the players in the montaaaaaaage. I don't remember if it was Cruise or Newman who had the audacity to drink his shot. Why is Barfly not on DVD? |
Re: famous extras/cameos in movies
I never heard of most of the people mentioned so far. Let's get back on track:
When Paul Newman is giving his closing argument in "The Verdict", the climax of the movie, one of the extras sitting in the courtroom audience is young, unknown Bruce Willis. That blonde guitarist from Heart is the chick in the Corvette laughing at Judge Reinhold's pirate outfit in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (she was married to the producer, or the director, or somebody). And just about everyone already knows that Nicolas Cage was Reinhold's buddy in a few scenes (no lines). Pool great Willie Mosconi, who served as technical advisor for "The Hustler", has a cameo in the film. Gleason orders, "Rack 'em, Willie," and Mosconi dutifully racks 'em up. |
Re: famous extras/cameos in movies
Just thought of a good one, and even though I'm sure I've posted about this before, I like telling this story, so I'm going to post it again:
I'm watching "Cobb", where Tommy Lee Jones plays Ty Cobb. I like Tommy Lee (who doesn't?), and I liked his co-star, Robert Wuhl (this was before "Arliss", but after "Hollywood Knights"; think of the "Batman" Wuhl--in other words, he was on top of his game), so I'm watching this... There's only one scene that takes place on the playing field (the rest of the film is old Cobb being crazy). Tommy Lee steps into the batters box, talks some trash with the catcher AND the umpire, digs in, and takes a fastball for strike one. I mean a FASTBALL. The pitch came in from off camera POP! I sat up in my chair. "My God! That fastball was really moving! Where did they find an extra to throw like that??? They must have a pitching machine set up off camera or something..." Cobb sneers at the pitch, like he's not impressed with it. The catcher throws the ball back to the mound...to 32-year-old Roger Clemens. "Oh. That explains the fastball." |

Re: famous extras/cameos in movies
Eh...NPH is definitely more of a normal character role.
And Matt Damon in Eurotrip? I just saw that movie for the first time a few weeks ago, and I had no idea he was in it. Surprised the hell out of me. |

Jim Garrison in JFK. |
Re: famous extras/cameos in movies
Brett Favre as himself in There's Something About Mary.
BTW, the Cuba Gooding, Jr. part in Coming to America is not a cameo because he was not a prominent actor yet. He was just a kid who got a tiny role in a movie. |
