The commercial convinced me to not see it. The "I HAVE THE MONEY!! I HAVE THE POWER!!!!" bit was just way too lame.

I'm going since I have a free ticket for this or Reign Over Me. I didn't know that was Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Brick.... wow. He was a good actor in that, but that called for kind of an outlandish job. The trailer for The Lookout looked awful and so did Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but it got good reviews and still looks better than Adam Sandler trying to be serious.

Adam Sandler was mostly serious in Punch-Drunk Love, and I thought that was by far his best movie.

The marketing stresses lines like that when it may just be a throw away line in the movie. It is written and directed by Scott Frank who is general considered one of the top 5/10 screenwriters working in the industry in the past 10-15 years.

Everyone I know who has seen it thought it was very good and took them by surprise.

Re: The Lookout

I saw this movie last night.

It was good, very different. I probably wouldnt see it again, but it reminded me alot of History of violence. The general storyline:

-chris pratt was once a high school star in hockey, all around good guy, etc. he gets in a car accident that leaves him with a short term memory loss and other such disabilities. he works as a janitor in a bank and is the roommate of a blind man (jeff daniels).

he is quickly befriended by gary, a former classmate of his (3 years older). gary wants chris to help them rob the bank, and from there, madness ensues.

Brick was a strangely done yet pretty intriguing movie that definitely held my attention and overall was a good movie imo. I thought the main character (the main char in Lookout too I guess) was a perfect fit for that role and played it really well.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is easily one of the best American actors working right now.

It's not just Brick... he was amazing in Mysterious Skin and Manic too. I can't wait to see Lookout; going tomorrow.

thread hijack.

rian johnson is the guy that wrote it. His brother Aaron, told a friend of mine hey my brother made a movie you should watch it....we kinda shrugged it off. Some dudes house we were at one night had rented got it in the mail from netflix we watched.

intresting facts about brick.
there is no cussing in it. It was planned that way. It got a rated R for the violence in the movie. That GUNSHOT...wow
Rian Johnson (i was told) wrote the movie in the vein of one of his faviorte writers Dashell Hammits (sp?).

And if your intrested, he has a myspace.

Re: The Lookout

Bump.

This thread started when the movie first came out, and since I never intended to see it in theatres, I went ahead and put it in Netflix queue, and only just got around to seeing it last night. Not much to add that hasn't been said, but I'm bumping since this thread is the main reason I saw it.

I've had a hard-on for Gordon-Levitt for a while now (since seeing Brick), and I think he plays this role excellently. I also love Jeff Daniels and he was great as always. Solid cast, writing, cinemtography, etc. Worth seeing, but definitely nothing groundbreaking or Oscar-worthy. Just a good, enjoyable movie.

Yeah, he is really good.
Has a great performance not only in Brick, but also in Mysterious Skin, which is a great movie (though it has some uncomfortable moments which probably make the movie not worse, but better).

I liked the lookout (solid movie, but not necessarily great), although I didn't get a Memento kinda feel for it.
