Bill gates just adopted greatest poker player in the history of poker!
Bill gates just adopted something that can say 2 words.... its a parrot and it says all in for every hand. In a no limit money game the parrot wins all your money you sat down with before you can take all of his bankroll.... over a course of time the parrot rules over all!!!! Parrot doesnt need skill to beat you... he knows his worst odds are 80 20 on a starting hand.... No matter how skilled you are, it takes one unbelieveable run of luck to beat the parrots bankroll before you lose yours.... If the bankroll of one opposing player is insurmountable that makes him far superior to someone with more skill at the game!!!! The mind has thought and now spoken!!!

AA vs A6o= 94% vs 6% Parrot should get pokerstove. |

In my post (An interesting take on Poker Pros) everyone was arguing Poker is purely skill in the long run. Now here we have a situation where Poker has been reduced to almost pure luck. You will still have a choice in choosing the hand you go all in with, but after that all you can do is pray and hope for the best. A lot depends too on the size of the blinds, you may be forced to go in with an inferior hand before you are eaten up. In a no-limit cash game, Bill (or his parrot) would be the most dominant player in the world. Actually, no matter how skilled you are in poker if you are playing with someone who is dominantly "richer" than you, you can't beat them unless you get lucky. And the more money they have than you the luckier you have to get. |

[/ QUOTE ] ok man all of your post show a lack of fundamental understanding of poker. if he is going all in every hand you can put him on a range of a "random hand" if you only play hands with positive equity against a random hand you will profit over the long run. you can choose to reduce risk even more by only playing hands with a large amount of equity vs his range, and since its a cash game the blinds he steals will in no way come close to making the money he loses back(not to mention you get your stolen blinds back when you stack him). Yes him going all in constantly PF takes a large amount of skill out of the equation but thats because he is choosing to make such a huge mistake that it doesnt even take skill to exploit profitably(anyone could beat it). it sounds like you are trying to apply a double or nothing type concept with an unlimited bankroll to poker but it wouldnt work in poker. Also if there is a max buy in at the table like most this further handicaps the strategy because once i double up a couple of times, he would have to beat the odds many times over to have me covered which is unlikely as he will be a 4 to 1 dog almost always. If he had the ability to buy in for whatever he wanted and always had me covered, i would just stop at the point where i thought even an 80% chance to win wasnt enough to justify however many BBs i had to risk and walk away. Once you become ultra deep stacked you dont flip for stacks PF much. |

[/ QUOTE ] But if you lose all your money you won't be around for the "long run". All I am saying is no matter how skilled you are at poker unless you have a bank roll on level with those you are playing you can't play at their level, unless you get very very lucky. [ QUOTE ] Yes him going all in constantly PF takes a large amount of skill out of the equation but thats because he is choosing to make such a huge mistake that it doesnt even take skill to exploit profitably(anyone could beat it). Re: Bill gates just adopted greatest poker player in the history of po
you arent playing with your whole bankroll on the table, we usually advocate 20 buy ins for a level.....if you are playing this parrot i think 3 or 4 buy ins would be plenty, you could wait for AA or KK and fold every other hand and the odds of going bust are pretty slim but if you wanted to risk a little more to gain more(higher variance) you could call with more.
The only reason this takes skill out of the equation is because there is only 1 decision to be made push/fold, no hammer of future bets, no putting him on hands and comparing pot equities etc etc. just like there is less skill playing poker 25BB deep than there is playing 100-200BB deep the rules, situations(stack sizes) and play of your opponents dictates what is the most profitable way to play. If someone is bad it is easier and takes less skill to figure out the way to exploit them. When they make a mistake this terrible anyone can exploit it and you dont need skill to do it. That being said its not even close to being luck either, you are going in as a massive favorite everytime, you will make a ton of money off the parrot. |

Meaning you've lost 150BBs for every time you stack him. So, stack size matters a lot here. If max buy-in is 100BBs, you aren't likely to win any-time soon. Check my math. Now, if you can buy-in for 1000BBs, waiting for AA or KK will be a good strategy. |

I don't care how skilled at poker you are and they could all be really really bad (let them all let parrots play for them)you can't play in that game, unless you get very very very very lucky. |

You might as well say tiger woods cant beat a monkey trained in golf if the course rules say you can only use pure gold clubs and the monkey has the only set in existence. You would never try to or care to enter this game so far out of your roll. your argument is ridiculous. we are talking about playing poker here not short stacking a billion dollar buy in game, let alone having 1 BB. The deeper the stacks the bigger my advantage, to me its not money on the table its betting units so as long as i have a roll for it ill beat the game. obviously if he is playing any random hand you will be calling with a lot wider range than AA and KK but the odds of getting those is 110:1 so since you arent the big blind every hand you can profitably play that way.... |

Again, and maybe I'm just not being clear on my part, but everybody keeps missing my point. The analogy was an extreme exageration to show how you can almost completely take skill out of poker and replace it with luck if you have the right situation. My only argument has been that poker is a game of skill and luck. The person who ranks high in both areas is going to be the most dominant player. Skill being equal luck will be the determining factor. |

Someone once asked what game would you send your gf to play
HU vs Schnieds in Limit or HU vs Antonius in NL Easily NL. Just use the arr in strategy. She'll probably win like 15% of the time. Woohoo your girl beat antonius. BEAT: she probably also got preggo'd. But no way she can beat schnieds even 1% of the time at regular BB levels of Limit. |
Re: Bill gates just adopted greatest poker player in the history of po
No one is missing your point because you have no valid point. You are not talking about a game of poker. You are talking about a bunch of people gambling. A poker professional does not sit in a game of poker where there is no edge due to stack sizes being low against -ev competiton. They will sit in games where they have an edge on the competition. Only reason a person would play in games you are describing is if they felt like gambling. But again there is a difference that you are missing in this game of gambling you are describing and a poker game.

My point is luck is involved.... a great big part of it and who is more lucky wins more often..... But i keep forgetting of the greatness you all have that dont ever lose have always been winners.... Fantasy land at its finest, I really say way to go holyfield for your creation of such a place.... do your imaginary friends play poker with you in your games you set up.... Be fair now and let them win too big guy... its only fair. The mind has thought and now spoken!!!!

Re: Bill gates just adopted greatest poker player in the history of po
Do you not have reading comprehension skills at all? This is not difficult. No one is saying that luck isnt involved. The point of the matter is that no one is more lucky than another person. A more skilled person wins more often. You can try and rationalize your losing of money in poker all you want on here but the facts are you are not just unlucky comapred to someone else. You lose in the long run due to poor play. People are not in fantasy land here. You can not accept reality is the reason you must come up with outlandish comments of no one here is a pro or makes a living playing poker.
If this is too long or hard for you to comprehend here is a short version. **Stop whining about your loses because you are not unlucky. Luck is a shortterm aspect of poker and plays smaller role than you realize.** |

Re: Bill gates just adopted greatest poker player in the history of po
This is a very easy strategy to defeat. The blinds and the minimum buy-in would determine just how large a starting stack you would need, but given these, a good player would stack the parrot in a couple of days.

Risk of ruin calculation
This just comes down to a risk of ruin calculation. As a member of the MIT blackjack team, I think I can safely say that being outrolled by your opponent does not matter. The key to the situation is being able to risk an amount of your bankroll that you choose on each event.
Yes, it's true that if you sit down with your whole bankroll and play the parrot heads up, you are going to lose. However, even the non-mathematically inclined easily recognize that this is not smart bankroll management. In a typical game, you have almost complete control over the amount of money you have at risk at any given moment. It's a straight-forward math problem to figure out your edge over the parrot, and then choose to sit with the ideal amount of money given the probability of ruin you wish to take. With proper bankroll management, you can make it essentially a lock that you will bust the well-funded parrot. You simply sit down with less money every time you lose, while taking some off the table whenever you double through. good luck. Eric |
