The 1984 Obama Ad

I can't believe there is no thread about this video on the first page of the politics forum.

All in all striking. Compelling. Brilliant beyond words. But, one stops to think about the duplicity here. Isn't Obama just as media manufactured as Hillary? Of course, an astute Orwellian tactic is to make the accusation that the other party is using Orwellian tactics.

Still, this opens up a whole new, uncontrolled guerilla campaign strategy that must have McCain and Fiengold turning in their graves (yes, I think that in truth, both of them are walking dead). I look forward to seeing how this all evolves from here.

I logged on just to see the thread about this...unfortunately, you're the only poster. This should generate quite a conversation...too bad here "for the common good" sentence wasn't in there, though.

Let no man deceive you...(just a word to the brethren out there); this ad is an indictment of the two-party system in general...including Obama. All it needed was Hillary's "for the common good" line and Bush I's "New World Order" line and it would be...ah well....maybe there's a libertarian hacker out there somewhere. Is this really an Obama ad? Is the ad saying that Hillary is all smoke and mirrors and that her duplicity is Orwellian in nature?

Well, I've always called her 'Queen Bee Hillary'. Good to see that Obama also recognizes this. Let the theater of nastiness commence. That was a great ad, Cheeky I say, and I hope it is real and airs all over the world – including China.

I saw this at work today and wondered if there would be a thread on it. It's amusing, but almost I would guess it was created by someone with a hidden agenda against the democratic to make the party look divided. No way anyone that actually participates in politics for the dems would endorse this crap, funny as it may be.

just so we're clear, your personal attacks do nothing to diminish the fact you're two weeks behind by waiting for the MSM/Faux News to report to you something I knew about two weeks ago - something for you to be proud of, I'm sure.

Now, on to CURRENT events - -

Tonight, on a liberal left wing blog, they posted the identity of the creator of the video and asked him to comment on it - here's the post on huffington post

[ QUOTE ]
Well, today I can end the guessing. Last night, we sent out a challenge to the HuffPost team asking them to hit the phones and contact all their sources. As a result, we have learned the video was the work of Philip de Vellis, who was the Internet communications director for Sherrod Brown's 2006 Senate campaign, and who now works at Blue State Digital, a company created by members of Howard Dean's Internet Team."

[/ QUOTE ]

the rationale, interesting enough, was based on Hillary's attempts to bully frontrunners and donors -

[ QUOTE ]
A friend suggested the idea after reading a New York Times article about the Clinton's campaign bullying of donors and political operatives after the Geffen dustup.

[/ QUOTE ]

in my mind, it serves as good entertainment and fodder for discussion amongst Democrats about who they REALLY want in Washington - another 50.1 percent career politician, or someone who can come up with better solutions -

and it's not at a level yet like where Bush and McCain were in their push-polling, so I appluade the video and it's technique. It has certainly generated discussion within the Democratic party where needed, since it's obviously not for Republicans or targeted to them.

good job, Phil

I don't have an opinion either way - but both Fox and the MSM were two weeks behind - (I saw it today in Fox News - somewhere between links about Lindsay Lohan flashing her private parts and pundits proclaiming how all out civil war in Iraq may be a good thing) -

However, I made a distinction between the MSM and the Faux news network when listing the two together. They were both behind the curve.

Wanna know why the guy made the ad? - Gonna have to go to another left wing blog post -

I seem to remember the repubs trying to trim budget dollars in the Clinton years. Not cutting the budget but growing it at a slower pace. Every dem in the country was running around screaming "draconian cuts" to pay for "tax cuts for the rich" blah blah blah. "Kids will be starving from not getting govt breakfast at school"....all this because the budget grows at 7% instead of 10%. then the govt shut downs happen and the polls say America blames the repubs......Now we are all screwed because both parties spend like crazy.....I SAY BRING ON THE DRACONIAN CUTS...AND THEN CUT SOME MORE.

At least the repubs tried back then....but the dems were successful with thier campaign of lies about the budget.

The funny thing is when they do cut taxes....revenue goes up...investment leads to jobs, which lead to more taxpayers, and so on. We do not live in a static economy where revenues raise along side tax rates. You would think the dems would be for more revenue going to the govt....I'm sure there are a thousand redundant programs they have in mind.

I didn't think the add was really all that good or inventive. It is actually stolen from an old Apple Mac add that ran during the Superbowl back in the 1980's. The people who created (STOLE) this add just put Clinton's face on the giant television screen instead of the old man who was representing "IBM" in the original.

This chart contradicts your claims. With only 4% growth the Clinton administration was dramatically better at limiting spending increases than any other in the last 40 years. What does that say about the "dems campaign of lies about the budget"?

The Clinton administration also grew revenue the most, despite raising the top tax rate. Bush's 7% revenue growth is the lowest in the last 40 years. Maybe lower tax rates sometimes result in less revenue?

With the combination of excellent revenue growth, minimal spending increases, and some accounting tricks, the federal budget made it to even for a year under Clinton. Then, "9/11 changed everything", by which I mean 9/11 instantly wiped out the stifling balanced budget requirements, with much rejoicing by all in Congress.

The budget in the Clinton years had one big cost control...defense. Defense spending went down a great deal, we had won the cold war, and spending on defense was not needed as it was in the previous decades.

The campaign of lies I refer to is the talking points the dems used...I dont think I could watch any news program for months without seeing a dem saying "draconian cuts"....and there were no budget cuts!!!!!...virtually all programs were increased, with the exception of defense spending>
