Fossilman\'s Stars Account Hacked?
 

Fossilmans account was playing an account in heads up sng's called Ikeyrson earlier tonight.. they played all the way from $100 up to $5000... First hand it would be raised to 1480 and called... Then Fossilman would fold after the flop.

Pretty stupid behaviour by the hackers. Did they really think play like that wouldn't be noticed?

If you're smart enough to hack someone's account and have it go unnoticed (ie: chip dumping that looks very realistic) - then you likely are smart enough to beat the game yourself, and you wouldn't jeopardize that by hacking someone's account and getting perma-banned.

I remember when I kept moving in blind to you in a $1k sitngo and 6 tabling heads up thinking it was the $22 headsup tourney. I just wanted to get allin so I could focus on the $1ks :-)

Then you found KT and called and it was no good, and I won $1k. :-P Maybe Greg was doing same thing?

Yes, my account was hacked. I had been playing earlier in the day, as I had VIP matches at 11am, 12pm, and 1pm. I then was playing the weekly TLB match against Shaun Deeb at 2pm. I did play all those matches, failing to cash in all the VIP matches, but managing to win in the TLB match, where I played heads-up limit 5-card draw for the first time ever. I have played some limit 5-card draw before, but not HU.

Anyway, I then went upstairs to watch my buddy Rocco Mediate on TV as he was trying to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Tournament (he finished 2nd to a super-hot Vijay Singh), and I then went to the driving range. While there I got phone calls from my Dad, my wife, and PokerStars security. So, I rushed home and dealt with things.

It appears that this ikeyrson bastard managed to guess my password after making multiple attempts. He then played like an idiot as you are all aware, blatantly dumping chips from my account to his account. Based upon dozens of emails sent to PokerStars security, they jumped in and froze his account. So, all of my money will be returned, and he gets nothing. PS isn't allowed to tell me this guy's real name (if it is his real name, whatever it is he used to create his relatively new account). If anybody out there finds out who it is, feel free to share his name. I'll be more than happy to try and make sure that every online and live poker room in the world bars him permanently.

So, in summary, account hacked, hacker caught and account frozen, all money safe, I really did go only 1-3 this morning/early afternoon in my VIP and TLB matches.

Thanks to all of you who helped me by alerting PS security.

How many times can you guess someone's PW before it's red flagged?

And, how did he guess Raymer's PW? I have no idea, was it something someone could figure out if they knew Raymer? Or is it one of those PW's like gh8mngods0j54 that makes no sense to anyone and he cracked it anyway?

Do you really think he was able to just guess your password? You're a smart guy so I assume you didn't use easily guessable stuff like birthdays.

The password was probably a simple word like his dog's name or something. It's almost impossible to guess a password like "gh8mngods0j54" since the odds of picking the right one are one in 62^n where n is the length of the password.

Wow that sucks. I've always thought pokerstars needs to upgrade their security. If this had happened to a lesser known player they would have more trouble getting money back.

Not to be a dick but i know of people(some have posted on 2p2) that got their stars acct hacked and stars does not give them their money back. WTF?

Of course I am glad their attempts were thwarted, but I'm gonna give credit to the hackers for the kamikaze nature of this mission. I mean, did they think they could actually make money by hacking one of the highest profile players anywhere online? My hunch is that they were overjoyed just to have guessed Greg's password correctly.

As an aside, I think it's very professional and upstanding that Stars security will not tell Greg the hackers' real identity, just like they wouldn't tell any one of us.

Clearly in this case Stars was able to freeze the account before any money was transfered out. If they didn't return the money to Raymer that would mean Stars kept the money. That doesn't sound like Star policy to me. It's the cases where a hacked account arranges a multi site trade with another player that the hacked player doesn't get their money back because the money is gone. Had this happened to Raymer I wouldn't expect him to get his money back.

Not sure of the level of sarcasm here. I'm guessing minimal or none.

I think it's kind of strange they won't tell you the name of the guy who hacked it.
What is the reasoning for not revealing it?


In other news:
- glad Greg's account is okay
- concerned about how common this is
- concerned about how many tries somebody can 'guess' a password before the account gets locked. There was one time I couldn't remember my password and I kept trying and trying and trying and NEVER got locked
- wonder if Stars will ever consider having a different handle for logging-in then the player-handle that is used on the table. Every hacker already has half the equation for trying to get into your account. And they perhaps get unlimited password-guess attempts if they want.

- Conclusion: It seems unusually easy to get away with something like this on Stars but I'm really not sure if my hunch on this is accurate.
Is the other guy going to have his funds confiscated? (he had to have SOMETHING in his account in order to buy-in at the table)

Seems especially advantageous to give it a try if you get one of those Visa debit-cards and can cash-out fairly quickly.

I also would love to take advantage of a feature of "only allow my account to log-in from THIS computer."

This could stop a lot of hacking attempts cold I suspect.

Hey, not that 50+ other people didn't email stars, but I never did. I contacted Justin, who contaced his boss who froze the match instantly. I seriously doubt they got thru the mails at the point.

Obviously I just stumbled across it and I would have reported it anyhow, or stars would have gotten there a few mins later. It was too blatant and visable for someone not to stop it in time.
