Weird Check
 

I asked for a check withdrawal from UB and about 10 days later, my girlfriend was going through my junk mail and came across a blank envelope with 2 checks attached to the bottom of the paper. It had some German writing on it and it looked like some credit card scam but had no real writing on it at all.

I had forgotten about the Ub withdrawals, so right before I shredded them I checked to see if I made any withdrawals for that amount, turns out I had from UB. I still don't believe they would send the checks like that. I guess, I'm just trying to verify that Ub sends weird looking green checks and that its not some credit card or loan scam.

What exactly is "weird" about the checks? You mention they are green. Is it a weird bright green, or kind of a weird yellowish-green? Better call your bank and see if weird green checks are okay.

the checks were were outside the envelope? what had german writing on it? UB, like all US friendly sites, is looking for new check processers. since the checks are for the amounts you requested, cash/deposit them and keep us informed. at least you got paid.

They just don't look like checks I've ever cashed out before and there is no reference to UB or online poker at all.

I waited a little over 2 weeks for my check from UB too. I put it in my bank(Wells Fargo) ATM and it went through in 2 days. I was surprised about the German too, but if they go through I guess it doesn't matter what language they're in.

Imagine you are running a global web based business, and you send one of your customers in Germany some money.

German Customer: ACHTUNG!! This check looks funny! And it is all in ENGLISH! No real writing on it at all. KAPUAT!

You are right, I am grumpy. I get extremely grumpy at stupidness. Supposedly this board is for smarter poker players. This particular section, is for smarter computer-savvy poker players. And yet, a simple every day thing like getting a check in the mail (from an international company, which all the poker sites are), is some kind of complete mystery process filled with awe and amazement.

funny that you posted this, my fiancee just threw away my ub check yesterday because it looked like one of those scam checks. She said "it looked fake and was for a lot of money so I threw it away".

hey jv, i recently requested a ub check for 10k and, like you, recieved a green check from a german bank. okkkkkk. so i go to my bank to deposit and they are like wtf!?!?! my bank is a regional bank called ohio savings. they look up the procedures and it says they charge at least 300 in processing fees, plus more fees from the original bank and requie 4-12 weeks to process.

the people i dealt with were clearly clueless on the situation but from what i could interpret they needed to send the check back to germany for verification purposes. the deutsche bank would then fill out a form to verify and send the check back. on and on and on. i had a bunch of forms to fill out too.

of course i said i would keep the check and try to find an alternative (bank wire.)

also, do some google searches on foreign checks and you will see that many usa banks charge outrageous fees and require tedious verication processes.

ok, i just read the thread. cardcounter and barrin are obv completely clueless on the process that american banks go thru to accept a foreign check. they clearly have no experience in the matter, and althought their comments are witty and seem to make sense, it is simply not how the real world functions.

In the real world, banks make money by charging fees. You went to the biggest scammer fee bank I have ever heard of, or they were simply clueless like you said.

Instead of going to Ohio Savings, walk a block down the street, and go to Fifth Third Bank. Locations can be found here

There are no fees for depositing a German Check, although it might take longer to clear, as they have to send it back to Germany to verify the funds. The only way you would be charged a fee is if it is not in US Dollars, there would be a currency conversion fee.

One time, out in the real world, I had a flat tire. Some stupid little podunk gas station wanted to charge me $300 to replace the tire. I went to Goodyear instead, and paid $89. Amazing how that works. See, instead of claiming that there was no way I could afford to drive my car since each tire costs $300, I simply went to someplace much cheaper to do it. In the case of green german checks, I would go to 5/3 Bank, where it is free.

Look at the check again. It is in US dollars drawn on a Manhattan branch of a German Bank. Deposit the check in the ATM machine. Go on about your day. No fees, no nothing.

This is not rocket science.

So many others I can't think of right now that get misspelled on here so frequently, I think many become convinced after a while that the wrong spelling is actually the correct one. Actually you're the one who seems pretty clueless. I just got a UB check yesterday. I took it to the bank like I do every damn time I get one. I deposited the check without any problem what so ever. I woke up this morning and checked my account balance. Well what the [censored] do you know the money is there just like it is every [censored] time. I'm beginning to think that some of you guys are like 15 and have never done any kind of business with a financial institution. The bank doesn't give a [censored] if your check is drawn on The Bank of Antartica so long as it doesn't bounce.


Edited to add: If your bank really gives you [censored] about cashing a foreign check then tell them to get [censored]. Cash out your remaining balance and walk down the street to a bank where the tellers and the managers aren't such dumb [censored]. Problem solved!

WINNA! If any place ever gave me a hassle there are plenty of other banks around. I've been happy with US Bank and Wells Fargo.. was unhappy with BOA so I don't do business with them anymore.

Just deposit check in ATM and you will be fine, it's worked for me so far.
