How many times can I raise in a live game?

A few weeks ago, I was playing 6/12 limit hold em at the Borgata. I rivered quads, and my opponent hits aces full. Being new to live play, and a long time internet player,I naturally just called his four-bet on the river. He says I could have raise him again. Could someone help me out as to how many raises are allowed before the betting is capped.

Heads up is uncapped.

In LA it's 4 bets to cap, in LV it's 5. Not sure about elsewhere in the country.

Heads up: Until one of you runs out of chips.
3 or more players with chips: Either 4 or 5 bets ( initial bet plus 3 or 4 raises), depending on the club, is standard.

You get variations when the round did not start heads up.

When in doubt, keep raising (if you want to), they will let you know if you are 'over the cap'. If you don't want the other guy to put the extra raise in, ask the dealer "Wasn't it capped already?"

If the board is KQJT2 rainbow, Ax may be the nuts, but don't waste everybody's time by going 23 bets heads up (unless your opponent's seeing eye dog is outside).

Depends on the house.

Most rooms in Vegas allow one bet and four raises, and unlimited raises when heads up. Excal allows one bet and 3 raises (including heads up). Just ask if it is an issue. Don't lose a bet if you don't have to.

Straddles dont count against the total where they are permitted

The answer depends on what state the room's located in.

In Washington state, 3 raises is the max on any round, whether it's heads-up or not. Other states have different rules. If you're unsure about the rules for the particular venue you're playing at, just ask the floorperson or the dealer.

That makes a lot of sense, but twice I've been in this exact situation (well not the deuce) and I've stopped after getting 3-bet since I figure we're chopping. I was up against a 9 once, and against two pair another time. At low limits its worth going at least 6 or 7 before stopping.

I watched this one sick hand once, wow. The board was KQ366 (suits irrelevent) And this one kid went for 18 bets on the river, with QQ...
vs 66.
Insane. He finally blinked at 18 bets, granted it was 3/6 but wtf??

Was this at the bike about 6 months ago? If it was then I was the guy with 66.

At Commerce I went uncapped myself HU in a limit game. I'm fairly sure it's the same at the rest of the casinos.

I will never stop raising the river with the nuts heads up. I've seen enough players do stupid things or misread their hands to justify this.

I went 50 bets with quads vs. aces full one time. lol. I had a friend put in eight bets with KK vs. my AdJd on a KQT2, where I thought we were chopping, but I was freerolling on the diamonds. Unfortunately, on the river I only had a call.

If you have the nuts and can't be freerolled on, just keep saying "raise" until the dealer tells you to stop. It's not like your hand is dead if you put in too many raises. I think the heads up 4-bet cap online is one of the worst rules.

This hand was awesome. A guy managed to go 35 bets with Ax vs KJ on an AAAKx board in a 100/200 game.

Twice I've seen people go 8 bets here on the river(one was 10-20 and one was 2-4, same board as described) and it was a scoop.

Re: How many times can I raise in a live game?

At one of the local B&M's I turned the straight with K9d, rivered a SF with the board as JJQQT (obv not the way it came out).

Me and buddy go 10 bets, i'm just drooling because the bad beat is stacked and he HAS to have JJ or QQ. he flips over Q4o

I was incredibly disappointed.
