The Well: Pudge714

[ QUOTE ]
A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except tuesday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer" . The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: Why not on tuesday? and the voice from in the well shouts back: Because on tuesday, its your day in the well.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. They are one point back of the Rangers one point in 13 games is really easy to overcome.
Yes it matters. As seen by 2006 Oilers, 2004 Ducks, 2001(?) Capitals, playoff hockey has tons of variance because goalies can make such a huge difference. Also given that there are like 3-6 good teams 3-6 horrible teams and than everyone in the middle who are all basically even. A couple good bounces and a hot goalie can lead any playoff team to a Cup win.

Never played the $215s pre ban, but and have only played like 200 Party sngs after the ban. That being said they are definitely softer. Before the ban almost all the $109s I played had at least 3 good 2p2ers. Right now there are like three guys on Party who aren't horrible. The one thing that sucks is that it is often difficult to get enough sngs running.

Yes. Poker will always be profitable because people suck. Even if the edges get smaller people will adjust. Just because the games are tougher doesn't mean they are unbeatable. People always think the games are impossible. If you were to go back 2 years and tell people you have a 5% ROI at the $109s people would think you a mediocre to bad regular, right now you are a good regular.

People are stupid in general. Canadians like to think Americans are full of stupid rednecks, but if you go to Rural Canada you will also have stupid rednecks. Canadians seem to have a giant inferiority complex with the US. They seem to think that everything Canadian is amazing and everything American is terrible. Obviously that is a gross over simplification.

Ford. I would have said that at the beginning of the season, however when Ford came back from his injury I would have picked Calderon. Ford's best skill is his speed, coming off the injury he looked like he lost a step. I still like Ford despite the fact he leads the league in "No, No, No, Yes" plays.

When the legislation went through I was 17. It took me awhile to find an unmentionable affiliate on Party so I didn't create an account under my real name until that happened. Based on the peak hours of each site I need money on both sites and right now I don't have enough money online to have decent rolls on both sites.

Biggest sng downswing ever?

[/ QUOTE ]
This downswing occurred right after the switch. I was game selecting bad, playing bad, and on super tilt trying to play every possible MTT so I could win and get unstuck.
My tracker is going haywire. So I can't look, but I would guess it was something like $10k total. About $5k in SNGs $5k in MTTs.

brief poker story and any "Ah-ha!" poker moments?

[/ QUOTE ]
When I was in Grade 10 I guess. Inyaface showed me www.pokerpages.com believe it or not they had tournaments that you could enter for free and still win money. I read some books saw poker on ESPN. I played like 432534534543 freerolls would win money and than bust my 25 cents or whatever. The one really good thing about pokerpages was they had things called Bugsy's Point. One Bugsy point= One cent. I won like 25bbps in a freeroll and played like 0.10BBP SNGs. I slowly built it up. Untill I won $80 in a MTT, note I lost a race TT>KQ HU another MTT I didn't win. With those winnings I grinded $2 SNGs. I had a big downswing moved down. Somehow I ended up having $3k. I think I had another second place MTT finish somewhere in there. Inyaface had told me that Apathy (who I knew IRL before poker) had won $20k in a MTT and that he knew some guy from Texas named Raptor who knew live TV pro and WSOP bracelet winner Gavin Griffin. I was impressed. I also remember hearing about how Raptor lost his BR in blackjack and wanted to go to Vegas and sign up for WSOP events using a fake ID.

I Moved to FTP played those SNGs. Than I moved to Party played the $33s, moved to the $55s, moved to to the $109s last summer. I also went to Vegas and stayed in the Ship it Holla mansion where I met TheUsher, Irieguy, Bones, Noodleman, Jman, Unarmed, and G2cu. Unfortunately I couldn't play much in the summer because of that stupid bug on Party which would only allow you to 5table or buttons would disappear. I still ran really good and won like $12k in 500 $109s.
After the legislation I moved to Stars. Had that big downswing mentioned earlier, grinded it back at the $60s, qualified for the PCA.

At the PCA I met Bonafone, Goggles, Deuce2high, Raptor and durr (although I met him before in Toronto). Roman aka Empire2000 busted me at the end of day 1. TT>AK. Once again MTTs=rigged. I didn't play great lots of small live stuff I didn't pick up on. In general I acted way too fast. I probably gave off tons of tells.

I came back and killed January won like $15k. February was a losing month and I think I'm close to break even in March. Although I have lost about $1k backing inyaface in live MTTs.

That's about it. If you have any more specific questions shoot.

It depends what you mean. Underrated by people who know him, or underrated by the forum, or who do I underrate. I will answer all three.

Underrated by people who know them. This is just a guess, but I think Joey is underrated since he plays SNGs. I think he could be a very good cash player within 20-30k hands to get the hang of it.

Underrated by the forum are just people who don't post often. So I would probably say Max. Since he is just another nameless MSNL grinder and since he is playing on Party right now not many people play with him.

Underrated by me I would say Max or Todd. Since I knew them IRL and they go to school, I don't think of them as pros. So I'm surprised that they are good for some reason.

Alan I can't call you underrated because you have live tourney success.

It's not a giant leak they were just guys who were marginal winners before the legislation and after the legislation everyone's ROI took a hit. They went from being 5% winners to slight losers. It depends on each person. For instance I have heard that Pineapple pushed and called too wide. Looking at Suzzer's HH he seemed to be pushing and calling too tight in certain spots. It all depends.

[ QUOTE ]

Probably a dozen. Although to me 5-10 years old all blend into one giant age group.

[/ QUOTE ]
I've only played one live MTT. So my experience is limited. I have also played a bigger event, where other events have shallower structures, here is a list of things.

Don't get bored. Playing 8-12 hours of live poker in a day is really boring, most of the time you will spend folding junk. If you think 1-tabling online is boring, try 1-tabling live where you get 30 hands an hour.

Pay attention to all the information you have. Stuff like the age of a players can be very important in playing.

Also for that matter pay attention to how guys play, whenever there is a showdown notice it and so on.

Take your time when acting. BigT was at my table at day 1 of the PCA. Whenever he opened a pot. He would look at his cards. Throw a chip on his cards to protect them. Think for about 10-20 seconds than act.

With live reads and more information you can make big folds. I didn't have the time to make a big fold like some I have heard of, but I did, c/c, c/f with Ax on a AAyz board. Also playing deeper it is easier to make big folds obviously. In online MTTs guys are much less afraid of putting there tournament life at risk. So that means when going allin guys will have nittier ranges.
In live tourneys with big buyins a lot of the field is happy to breakeven or double there money. Pwning the bubble is much more effective live.

That's all I can think of now. I would expand on reading people, or coaxing people into calls or stuff like that, but I suck at it. Also Alan you would be much, much better at answering your own question, but obviously you knew that when asking it.

Re: The Well: Pudge714

If you were to coach a person who wants to start playing poker, how would you go about teaching them the game? Would you start off w/sngs then go to nlcash, then online mtts, then live mtts? Or some combination of limit HE, all the other games first/middle/etcetc? Would you start them off being super tight or would you allow them to play super LAG to get in weird spots? (more of a postflop cash thing) How long do you think it would take for them to be a winning player? Do you think there are even advantages to mastering all the different types of games listed above? What are the major benefits of learning say SNGs (and all the others) that could apply to other forms of HE? Also... would you start teaching them PLO/Stud/etcetcetc or just stick to HE?

Re: The Well: Pudge714

You've played with me just a little, but you've responded to a lot of my posts. How would you analyse my play based just on this information? How confident are you in making an analysis based on this information?

TheUsher's question about online mtts to live mtts: what about strategy changes from online to live generically (i.e. not mtt specific).

There is a HUGE difference between an avg 5 year old and an avg 10 year old. Any 'normal' adult male over 150 lbs should be able to destroy a group of 12 5 year olds.

I don't think Pudge would teach anyone to play Limit. Like I've tried playing limit a little when bored to learn it a bit and I don't think I'm +ev at 3/6 limit. It's just so easy to keep raising.
