Action in Tunica
I have heard the action in Tunica has really slowed down lately. It is about time for our annual pilgramage to toon town and I am wondering if we need to look at a different location this year. We usually stay at the Goldstrike but end up playing mostly at the Shoe.
Has the Horseshoe expanded again in the last 6 months? I thought I read something about another expansion online. thanks for any help! |
Re: Action in Tunica
I havn't noticed any slowing down. I had two 10-20's, 1 20-40, 2-5NL, a few 4-8's, and a stud today around mid-day. On the weekends we're slammed.

Re: Action in Tunica
Chipr - Is the action gradually going back to limit in your opinion?
Seems you used to have more NL tables going. But now getting 2 different 10/20 limit games with only one 2/5 NL seems a change from a few months ago. |
Re: Action in Tunica
How much does it cost to stay in Tunica? Are there any hotels around the casinos that are cheaper? I've been playing in Philadelphia, but they don't seem to want to spread anything higher than 3/6 or the occassional 4/8. I'd like to get to town to play some 10/20.

Re: Action in Tunica
Call ahead and get your room booked through the poker room and you save a lot of money. The Shoe will feed you good if you play poker.

Re: Action in Tunica
You can call the poker-room at Gold Strike or Horseshoe and try to get the poker-room rate.
From Mon-Thu I think it's $30/night if you play 5 hours or more a day. And not much more on the weekend. The price of the room without the poker-room rate can vary wildly depending on which day. One weekend the Horseshoe might be quoting $280/night or more for some weird reason....but during the week you might be able to get $30 somewhere. If you are just looking to stay for cheap and don't care about the accomodations AND if you can't get in on the poker-room rate at Horseshoe or Gold Strike (or Grand) then you can consider staying at a cheapo place like Bally's or Fitzgerald's. They don't have poker. But they do have cheap rooms that are easy driving distance from the other casinos. There are a couple of other non-casino hotels in the area. But I don't see any advantage to staying there. There are 9 casinos in Tunica all with hotels at various price-ranges. |
Re: Action in Tunica
The latest promotion at the gold strike is play 5 hours of 10-20 and the night is free... Tought to get the game going, also saw a 25-50 NL game going at the strike last weekend. (3/1/07) and a pretty deep 2-5 game about 1.5k-2k per person at the table. the poker room rates are pretty cheap but they have limited space available and you MUST book via the poker room to get it.

[/ QUOTE ] I play in that 10/20 game at the Goldstrike pretty regularly & it usually is very soft. The majority of the people who play in it are not able to read players or read hands, nor do they have good hand selection. Any ol' Q7 sooooted from any position for any number of raises is a playable hand. If they happen to catch a piece of the flop, then they will stay with you till the river regardless of what comes on the board. My only problem is that I seem to go completely card dead when I play in this damn game... |
Re: Action in Tunica
I've wondered about that 10/20 promotion which they've actually had for several months now.
Is this a weekend only thing? Or can you have a realistic shot of getting the 10/20 going during the week and getting a free night? |

I strongly urge you to call the poker room in advance to make sure they have space for poker room rates. If you look at the bottom of the poker page listings of the site Mid South Gamming you will see the phone numbers for all the poker rooms in Tunica. Good Luck, Have fun, Play Nice |
Re: Action in Tunica
That game is real hit & miss. In January during the WPO it ran around the clock I think but normally, in today's world of NL or bust, it is difficult to find players for it sometimes.
|
Re: Action in Tunica
January during the WPO doesn't count at all.
of course it was running around the clock during that time. They also have many games higher than that going most of the time during the WPO. I'm talking about the 'regular' gold strike poker-room in non-January. The times of the year when there aren't hundreds of extra poker-players in town. |

[/ QUOTE ] Gipper- I assume by this quote that you play at the new poker room at the Golden Moon. How is it? Do they spread anything besides these two LHE games? Any stud action? I've been thinking about driving over from ATL for some time now, but haven't done it just because I haven't been able to get any detailed information about the poker room/action. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. |
Re: Action in Tunica
I heard that the stike caps it's $1/$2 NL at $200. Does anyone know if this is true?
|
Re: Action in Tunica
Gold Strike 1-2 has no cap. Horseshoes game is $300.
|
Re: Action in Tunica
I love playing at the 'shoe but they've only ever had
$1/$2 NL once when I've been there... granted I usually am there Wed-Fri cuz I can never get a room on a weekend while I'm home from school |
Re: Action in Tunica
I am going to be in Tunica April 18-22 and I am staying at the goldstrike. Can somebody give me a rundown of what games are being spread on a normal basis at the Strike and Shoe. This will be my third year playing poker at the goldstrike and it is my favorite place to play. I have played at Trop Ac, Ballys, Paris and Orleans in Vegas and I have always had the most fun in Tunica. Looking forward to being down there again. I may play a little at the shoe on wed. night this year. Thanks for any info.

Re: Action in Tunica
I was in tunica last Sept. and stayed on the 10-20 list for 80 straight hours, I don't think the list ever got to more than 4-5 (this was a weekend) - so I played the 10-20 at the shoe for the most part - Great Game!
|
Re: Action in Tunica
First off the HShoe only has 13 rooms available for the poker rate. The GStrike has more rooms available but the action is pretty much 3-6/4-8LHE. 1-2NL and sometimes a 2-4Nl. 3-6 8's or better has been spreading lately.
The Shoe has been jumping a little lately 10-20 going pretty good but it has been pretty slow up until the last week or so. 20-40 is a good game but it's really ram and jam---so your roll might move a little more than you like. Try to schedule some playing time when the shoe runs its nightly tourneys. Tends to bring in the most dead money. M. |
Re: Action in Tunica
Oh the PRate is 30 bucks at the strike. No idea about the horseshoe--they never have a room available when I need one.
