Poker is harder?
I think poker has become easier for my style. I think its much easier now to see what my opps have and play accordingly.
I think that all the threads about poker being harder now are coming from HUD bot players who do not know how to play poker. Lets examine a HUD bot player. They play 4-8+ tables and play very few hands post flop. This style of playing is now not very profitable and I love it. Also, in muddywaters latest video at 2/4 NL on pstars, he took down $1300 in that session--poker must be dying. Poker is like life in many ways. It will go through cycles and if you cannot adjust find a new hobby. Learn to play poker and you will be fine and please quit whining about how hard poker has become. cheers Boon |
Re: Poker is harder?
Maybe he just had a good session? I have yet to play w/ fish that were as bas as the ones in that video (post-Party). He ran into 2 tricky spots in however many hands he logged. Talk to me when they post the videos w/ sessions that involve set over set, every draw missed, top pair shoving turn and getting outdrawn by a terrible luckbox.
Maybe you should go and read his blog about the downswings he went through last year. You're an optimistic moron noob, GOOD DAY! |

Sounds like somebody is running well. Even the best players in the world go through swings that make them frustrated with this game. You seem to have figured it out though, well done sir.

Re: Poker is harder?
The truth is that games will always change over time. There will be those who can adjust and profit, and there will be those that were marginally good players and become losers. If you can't figure out which one you are then you are probably the 2007 version of a fish.
I am just tired of all the Poker can't be beat anymore threads. Of course it can, people may just need to adjust their game and focus a little more. |
Re: Poker is harder?
Poker is way harder than it was 2 years ago. I can remember watching 1000 no limit games where every 3-4 hands someone would 3 bet all in preflop with A9o. Please direct me to those games.

you're a moron?
1. not everyone can be good at poker 2. why would you tell the multi tablers to play better when you say they just win you money? 3. You act like you can't have a good session and win 3 BI even when the games are hard 4. It isn't opinion, it's more of a fact that the games have gotten harder. 5. They should still be beatable, but don't freak out on people whose winrate has changed 6. Who is whining? |

Re: Poker is harder?
As one of those "hud bots" let me say a hud bot by playing 7x more poker and seeing 7x more situations then you is going to become more skillfull than you, sorry to burst your bubble. Also if amount of leaks of other players go down only so much an edge your skill can give you. Enjoy life in your hole where you play 200 hands a day and have yet to experience a swing....

Re: Poker is harder?
Sounds like OP needs to learn about sample sizes.

Re: Poker is harder?
While the games are still profitable for the best players, they are not nearly as profitable.
Poker profits come from somewhere. They come out of the stacks of inferior players. You MUST have losers in order to have winners, this is a fact. The games ARE getting tougher. There are less fish now than 2 years ago and the average caliber of player is higher now than before. The best players will still win, but their winrates will possible go down. The mediocre players who won before might very well be losers now. The rake and lack of abundant horrible players will make it so. There are still horrible players of course, but not nearly as plentiful as the Party Poker glory days. |

[/ QUOTE ] If you are one of the HUDbots that can devote the same attention to all 7 tables as you can to 1, then hats off to you. You are truly a gifted, intelligent individual. Most people's level of attention that they can pay to each table decreases as they add more tables. Therefore, more tables = Less attention paid to each one = more mistakes. If a newish learning player is playing more tables, he may see more situations, but he'll be so busy trying to keep his head above water with all the tables going on that he won't think enough about or even recognize those tougher situations. If the games you are playing in are more difficult, then the regular player will need to decrease his number of tables in order to maintain the same winnrate as the tougher games will require greater concentration and focus. |

Talk to me when they post the videos w/ sessions that involve set over set, every draw missed, top pair shoving turn and getting outdrawn by a terrible luckbox. [/ QUOTE ] So you're saying if I find a table where I can shove the turn with TP, and always get called by worse hands, that this is bad for my bottom line? How? You are confusing variance with profitability. If you are actively leaving tables with lots of "luckboxes" that call your turn shoves with worse hands, then maybe that explains why you think poker has gotten harder, and you can't find any fish. |

Re: Poker is harder?
Myself I have never gotten to 12+ tables, but I maitained 6 for a long time just because I felt that was the max I could pay attention to without missing to many bets. Yes the game has changed IMO. So I have dropped to 4 tables and have made more money then when I was playing 6 tables. I am not missing as many steal opportunties and 3bets I used too.
Of course back when the fish pop was higher, it was no biggie, but the are less mistakes made by others now so I have to change my style. I think adapation needs to be done and I have. The winners will always adapt. |

Re: Poker is harder?
One note on OP, he is either a troll, or just a big idiot. As of now, I can't really tell.
OP- While I vaguely agree with your point (adjusting is important in poker), I believe you have a twisted notion of poker that it is ALL about adjusting. Like Aba said, 90% of poker is just sound mechanical poker, and the rest is making irratic plays at specific opponents. The HUDBOTs, having seen more hands, probably have better fundamental skills than you do, and to win at poker, that's all you need, especially at middle stakes (granted, at higher stakes, winning depends more on thinking on high levels). Now, the statement that games have become tougher is true because no matter how much you "adjust", you can't bend these fundamental laws of poker or you become a losing player. They must remain intact, and even as one follows the fundamentals strictly, presently he simply cannot win as much as before because the average poker player have become better. It has become harder to stack players with sets and overpair because, when before, fish would felt it with any pair, now they need top pair and good kicker before they felt it. This alone, has decreased not just the HUDBOT's winrates, but everyone's. It affects all players, and not just the "mechanical ones." You can only adjust and bend the rules so much before you cross the line and start making -ev plays (fancy play syndrome). Also, please refrain from claiming only people who agree with you as absolutely correct. It makes you look asinine and a complete tool. |

in smaller stakes it's all about grinding. if you play higher medium stakes or high stakes you may be right. don't generalize. |
