Retarded Laydown?

Stupid loose 4/8 live game.

Few limpers, i raise AQo in MP, buttons calls, annoying old passive lady calls in BB, everyone calls.

Flop is AJx no suits, check to me I bet everyone cept for 1 limper calls.

Turn Q, check to me I bet, everyone calls.

River K, old lady bets, everyone folds I fold face up in total disgust.

Earlier this person check called my TPGK (QJs) with an underpair (88) turned a set and never bet/raised the whole way.

Retarded fold? I think my play might have been driven by ego (i.e. no way i'm paying this annoying passive old lady off god #@$% it) type thinking...you guys agree?

Its probably a good fold, you didn't have to do it face up.

Don't fold good hands face up. They will catch on that you can make good folds.

14:1 or so. This is the definition of a crying call.

If your read was solid gold it may be fine since she bet into the field on the river, but I wouldn't be folding face up. I would rather ask the lady if she hit the broadway and see what she says before I throw in AQ face down.

i played a live game last night with a guy that i could have made this fold against. sometimes in live situations you have uberpassives like that and they don't bet without the nuts(i actually saw him fold bottom set on the flop of a monotone board for one bet). is this guy one of them? only you know that.

Why was she annoying? Because she beat you one hand? I'd suggest you need to get your emotional issues under control. This may be causing you more problems than any folding issues. You sound like an angry man, mate, and angry people don't play good poker.

Re: Retarded Laydown?

This hand actually reminds me of a hand I played a long time ago in a live game.

Early on, this lady almost folded AK, on an Ace high board, when I played my AQ strongly, and said something like, 'Oh, I thought you had a good hand.'

Anyway, a little later on, I raise preflop on the button, and she threebets. I call with my AQ suited. The flop comes AKx, she checks, I bet, she checkraises, and I know that I am drawing dead, so I flick my cards into the muck, but they catch on the button, and turn over. The dealer looks at me like I'm on crack.

There are some other players in the pot, so the action continues, and the river is a queen, he gives me a meaningful look, and I shrug my shoulders like it doesn't matter.

The hand goes to showdown, and the lady shows AK, I was drawing to running queens or a running straight on the flop.

Sometimes, you just know that your hand can't be any good, and you just have to go with it.

Calling here, would be the same as lighting a big bet on fire.

Re: Retarded Laydown?

You have to call that river bet, just on odds alone (what, like 15 to 1?) Also because you don't want other players to think they can bluff you off a pot with scare cards like this. Old lady could also have KQ, KJ, or even QJ or Ax. You can't be 95% sure she has a ten, and even if you were sure, you should call anyways because of the size of the pot and so opponents don't get tricky against you.

to use an overdone quote from rounders:

"This isn't a gunfight. It's not about pride or ego. It's only about money"

gotta keep the gremlins out!
