Beat: Mom Disowns Me
 

Beat: So my mom basically found out about me playing online again. I lost a little bit last year at one point, and she was already against poker as it was, so that just made her flip her lid completely. I calmed things down by telling her i'd never gamble online again. From that point on I made a pact with myself to study the game like never before and a year later, I'm back at it, but this time I am actually making money. I feel stronger about my game than ever before. I have seen a decent income 4 tabling 50 NL lately and in the $55 6 max 54 person tournies. Now I tell her this, and how i'm not gambling, how I can calculate ev on the spot, and how statistically its not gambling in my opinion. But she won't hear any of that. She says if I cared about her at all I would stop, but since i'm not she says she obviously means crap to me. This is such a depressing thing to happen. My mom raised me single, and I have always been close to her. For her to say that hurts. She also added that she is not going to pay for my car insurance or cell phone anymore. I responded thats fine, I can afford that. She then hangs up on me.

Have any of you had similar experiences, how did you handle them?

Brag: I'm up 1.5k over the last week after taking some time off to study some videos of people playing online and hand histories, so that makes me kind of happy, but not really...

Variance: Spring Break is tomorrow, and I'm supposed to go with my family and some other relatives on a ski trip to Timberline for a week. Won't that be fun now.

Ask mom if she wants you on the trip, assuming that you are not paying your own way. Moms don't disown their children for gambling (perhaps for crimes against humanity). They may try to make your life a living hell and throw down the guilt card, but you will not be disowned for this transgression. She could pull your college funding, again assuming that you don't pay your own way. You have to decide whether it is worth that possible outcome. Rest assured, poker will be there when you are.

I pay for everything myself. Scholarships and loans for later in life. My goal is to use poker earnings to start paying off loans. So basically thats not an issue, only issue is not wanting to hurt a relationship like this...haha now that sounds entirely emo, wtf is wrong with me...

lol, for having an allowed starting roll of 200 last week, 1500 is a decent amount. My goal for march is 3k, would be easy to achieve, but i'm only playing for the last half of the month. So its still easily reachable but a good goal nontheless.

um, hurting the relationship? meaning she won't pay for your stuff anymore or she is trying to convince you that "loving you" means "you loving to do what she says." if its your path, make it happen. if it's not, be honest about it. and not because mommy says so. don't take it personally, and you'll find your answer.

Bargain with her. Get her to buy you a game system in exchange for quitting poker.
Then go behind her back, sell it, and redeposit money to keep playing. Problems solved.

You didn't mention how old you are, but I can tell you that having parents that try to put guilt trips on you like that will only make your life pure hell.

Anyone who would disown you for something like this : doesn't love you , doesn't care about your desires, is a bastard. If she does disown you, honestly, it's no big loss because she's probably a horrible mother anyway.

I dont think you can pay all your living expenses + tuition + insurance (very expensive) 4 tabling $50 no limit, but good luck with that.

Honestly..you started with $200 last week..have a good week playing and you conclude that
1)You are now a winning player
2)You can sustain that insane $50NL win rate in the long term
3)Why did you even tell your mom if you know she wouldn't like it?

But, in the true spirit of BBV...GAMBOOL you don't need your parents to bail you out if you go BUSTO!!
