Please explain to me why so many people seem to hate Dids
 

Not personally, but his modding. I don't get it at all. Granted, I rarely have issues with any of the mods so maybe I just am not cutting-edge enough to know the dfference between "good" mod and "bad" mod. (I think I have only had 2 posts deleted.) That said, he seems to take flak from all angles. Please explain.

1- people hate mods

2- I'm pretty caustic to stupid people and I think this bothers folks coming from a mod.

3- There's a few vocal posters who dislike me a lot. I'm totally ok with that.

I actually think the current level of Dids hate is a lot better than like 6 months ago.

I didn't read the whole thread and don't really know anything about Degen. I wasn't referring to whatever led up to that thread. I was just offering up that specific post in response to your question.

A lot of them are. Most of them eat too much as a way of dealing with problems, anxiety or unhappiness. Many don't lose weight because they're afraid of change or having to deal with life without the safety of being fat.

What kind of a loser do you have to be let your body get that large? It's disgusting. So as a result, I'm caustic to fat people, because fat people are stupid.

I don't hate him. I rarely have anything to do with the guy or his forum, and we've never had a run in. He just seems annoying. Read the stickies in his forum for his kind of grating attitude and self-important demeanour. Compare with (say) Mike Haven's attitude, who deals with a similar class of posters with a lot more grace. It's pretty obvious why many people don't like Dids.

I guess I disagree, thus I started this thread.

I read his stickys and don't see any "self-important stuff" or his "grating attitude", but maybe that's because i am self-important and have a grating attitude.

Phil accidentially hits on part of it.

Those stickies are obviously intended as humor. A lot of the humor in my modding is a parody of self-importance.

People who don't get it, or just relish in outrage, tend to take me far more seriously than I intend.

That said, Phil isn't really bringing anything to the table here, as like he's said, we've never really interacted. If this thread has any merit, it will come from some of the people like Bluffthis, who have spoken about me in the past. Phil's basically just trolling and making stupid generalizations about fat people.

Dids is a great moderator. I've never seen him make a decision I consider noteworthy or strange, which is amazing considering his forum and who he has to deal with.

Doubly-amazing because I disagree with a large number of opinions/judgements that he expresses in other forums, and yet he remains appropriately objective with his modding.

I don't think that many people hate him. Like he says, they are just loud.

You're good at appearing reasonable when put under scrutiny, which is probably how you got a mod spot in the first place and avoided the constant heat from your poor moderation choices. Take off the scrutiny a bit, and you have a pretty bad attitude underneath it all.

Phil, can you give and example of a thread/post/mod decision here to help me understand? All you seem to be saying is that "Dids has a bad attitude and sucks", which may indeed be true, but I'd like to have something tangible here.

You seem to be confusing "I don't personally find Dids funny/like Dids" with "Dids is a bad mod".

I got a mod spot because 1- I was big on pushing for user mods back when there weren't any 2- I was bitching a lot about the quality of WPT. Mat basically called my bluff (which wasn't a bluff) and offered me a mod spot.

At first I tried to be very agressive in changing tone, and that pissed people off when I started locking threads just for being stupid. This set off some folks, and I eventually gave up and backed down. Then at some point, when an NVG mod dropped, I was added to NVG, and dropped WPT once Kevmath came on as a mod and showed mar more interest in poker on TV than I do now.

When I first started posting here, I didn't really care for the BDids, as I found a lot of his posts confrontational and in-jokey.

As time passed, I realized that the Dids is actually pretty smart and that he has a good sense of humor, particularly about himself.

A fairly recent example of this is when I declared Dids persona non-grata in OOT, and Dids himself was basically the only one to get the joke.

There was a lot of controversy a while back about some of Did's decisions - he deleted some of the threads where his moderation was criticized repeatedly in NVG, so many don't show up. The controversy was going on at the time this forum started accepting mod complaints.

He has a history of double standards, favoritism and locking stuff purely because he disagrees with the content or finds it (in his subjective opinion) uninteresting.
