Wells Fargo says using your debit card is fine

So I've been playing a few hands on cake poker lately and...almost bustod my account (less than $3,000, so no biggie) Well I decided to redeposit, I've yet to deposit since the neteller ban, so I clicked on their deposit options. I don't have epassport or any other "neteller equivalent" so I just used my credit card. Which was denied. So I tried my debit card, and it was accepted.

About half a hour later I get a call from Wells Fargo fraud prevetion. The lady says that my credit card was denied because credit cards are "loans" and the bank doesn't want you to "gamble with borrowed money." Then she went on to say that the debit card transaction was ok'd, and that I was free to use it in the future to deposit to other gambling sites.

Just thought I'd share my trip report.

Cliff notes: wells fargo knows I'm depositing to a gambling site and still gives me the ok.

Good news, may have to go get an account there. Any restrictions on how much you can deposit?

How much you got in your account? That would be the limit.

(Besides daily max, of course.)

I used my WF debit card to load Epass. At first it was declined. I called the # on the back of the card and within 10 mins tried again and it was cleared. It was only blocked due to the charge coming from outside of the US.

It is kind of ironic they say this when you see how many people are waiting for a credit card cash advance in AC every weekend. I'm sure they just need the $1000 for dinner.

Wells Fargo debit card has always worked for me. A long time ago, before I discovered Neteller, I used a normal Visa card to deposit on sites. Eventually, that stopped working. I switched to the Wells Fargo Visa Debit card and had no problems. Now, with Neteller gone, and not having done a card transaction to a poker site, in a long, long time, guess what- it still works.

That's logical. However how come the same rules don't apply to getting cash advances in vegas

Hmmm. I guess I should try that. I am assuming the "debit card" is the same thing as the standard atm card with the little visa logo?

i'm not legal expert, but aren't you now overtly breaking that dumb new law? with neteller at least the argument could be made that you weren't depositing into a gaming site.

no, it's not illegal to do it, it's illegal to "faciliate the transfer"

in other words, wells fargo "might" be in the wrong, but there is NO way I'm in the wrong...hope that makes sense...again, I'm no legal expert but this is what I've understood/been told.

Nice. If my bank gives me any lip when I go to deposit a few big checks from FTP, I know what my new bank will be now.

Exactly right. Problem is, there will be a time (I predict soon) that the banks are going to realize this and put a stop to it, especially if they are aware these debits are going to gaming sites. Load up while you can,

I used my Visa Wells Fargo Debit Card and it was declined. So I basically decided to go the moneygram route (highly recommended, very easy) and I went to Wells Fargo to withdraw some funds (need cash for Moneygram) and I found that my ATM card had been locked. I guess all the attempts I tried to load money using my debit card put a lock on my card But yea just use moneygram, its faster than epassporte and it only costs $10 (not bad these days).

Please, I beseech you, let this thread and all others like it die and fade about twelve pages back.

No good can come from naming specific banks.
