electronic tables
How many of you actually prefer the electronic tables over the real thing??
How many hands per hour do you avg. on one of these monsters?? Do you think player mistakes are magnified by the speed and ease of play?? I tried it once and was bored to tears. It was 4/8 limit at a Dog track near Memphis. The whole vibe at the table seemed more sinister and less cheerful. Also people seemed to take things more personally. For the first time I got to see what the glossy eyed drooling feinds looked like on the the other end of my computer. I like to entertain myself with chip tricks and enjoy the feel of having cards. Maybe I should just bring some chips to the table. Also, chip and card tells can be very reliable. |
Re: electronic tables
I stopped by to take a look at Hollywood Park's etables a few weeks ago and it didn't look that exciting. One $50-$100 buyin NL (1/2) game going. I sat down for a few hours and it was pretty uneventful. Lots of bickering among the regulars though. Almost like an O8 game.

Re: electronic tables
I just played one in Detroit for the first time this weekend (waiting for my live table to open). Saw that it encouraged even worse players than normal sitting down. Plus the rake was only $4 + bbj (instead of $6 + bbj). I was shocked at how little conversation happened at the table. It was like everyone was in their own little universe.
If it wasn't for the reduced rake I wouldn't play them, but we're getting killed here in Detroit with monster rake -- so I'm willing to keep playing for now. Live play is for the cards and chips and the actual act of putting chips into the pot IMHO. --Sax |
Re: electronic tables
Here is a shot of a pokertek table on a cruise to the US Virgin Islands.
The level of excitment you see was typical. Notice that many of the players are holding a card in their right hand.( this was how they loaded their bankroll). They all were just kind of nervously tapping the card on the table and fumbling with it most of the time. It was the most boring thing i have watched in a long time. They were dropping 10% to a $10 max in a 4/8 game. I was told the 3/6 game was cheaper..$8 max( when they spread it). These guys had no clue how much they were paying to play. I didnt stick around long. http://www.pokerrakebackcalculator.com/pokertek.jpg |
Re: electronic tables
They hold the card because they use it to tap the screen to make their selctions (call, bet, fold, etc). It's easier to use than your finger.
That's the same table they use at HP. Edit: except for the cup holders. |
Re: electronic tables
That picture makes me sad.

Re: electronic tables
Root canal w/o drugs seems preferable to that. |
Re: electronic tables
Any ideas how to destroy these stupid machines?
|
Re: electronic tables
Ugh, that looks terrible.
And how exactly are your hole cards concealed? |
Re: electronic tables
There is a image of the back of two cards in front of you on the screen. You touch the screen and cover your cards much like you do in a casino with real cards and the corner of the cards turn up and allow you to see their value and suit.

At the electronic tables at MCC people fidget with their account cards too. It gets annoying as hell.

The social aspect can be just as good/bad as a regular LA game since the live dealer rarely adds anything socially. And it's much closer to a normal B&M experience than it is to online poker. Of course at Hollywood Park it isn't being done quite right. Here are two links to long threads; the first was started by the Hollywood Park eRoom Manager and the second was one I started. [/ QUOTE ] The problem of course is that most of the regulars are the VIP Players aka "quasi props" and they are slowly discovering that near 100% rake back in an awful game isn't such a good deal (plus I heard from a reliable source they are now getting less rakeback). Lately I do use the eRoom as a quiet, uncrowded place to get a table-side meal between sessions out on the chaotic, crowded main floor. So a couple weeks ago I spot a short NL game in the eRoom with what looked like two quasi-props and another guy with both his wife/gf AND mother sitting behind. That's usually a good indicator of a mega-fish so I deposit some money and sit in. I order my meal and end up stacking everybody, with the last hand busting the only game (and my two remaining opponents, including the guy with the gf/mother sitting behind). That was fun.
