High(er) stakes fantasy baseball

Well, i have been thinking a lot about this, and i need to focus on something other than poker for a bunch of months. I'm actually gonna try this year bc i love baseball, im a balla, and i want a better reason than "I'm a mets fan" to go to some baseball games. SO LETS DO SOME FANTAST BASEBALL!!

I don't want to be commish or hold the money - bc thats responsibility, and i dont want any. I would like a roll call for people willing to do a league for "big" money. I'm thinking between 300-500 would be great. I GUESS if people wanna do 200, thats ok, but we'll see.

My stipulations: 5x5 roto league. NOT HEADS UP FTW!!

Maximum of 14 teams.

So who's in?!

FWIW, im gonna win bc im awesome at it, so have fun battling for 2nd - 14th!!

WHO'S WITH ME?!?!

im in however, i am not sure that i want to do the roto league bc last year we did a roto league which i definitly won, however bugstud did this very cheap trick where towards the end of the year you just pick up 7 pitchers who are pitching that day and throw them and keep doing that over and over, so he picked up a bunch of points in wins and Ks etc, and it was really irritating and i dont want to go through that again. So, I would rather to Heads up.

What you're refering to is called streaming starters- which incidentally is why is dislike HU since you can/should do this all year long.

You avoid this in roto by capping the starts for the year at 180 or so (depending on how many P slots you're using). similarly you avoid the reverse (someone runing only relievers all year to win whip/era/svs) by setting a min # of innings required for the ratio categories.

As for the league 500 would be a bit steep for my blood but if it ends up 200-300, I'm in.

Re: High(er) stakes fantasy baseball

you can implement a maximum innings pitched per season in roto and maximum innings pitched per week in HU.

Re: High(er) stakes fantasy baseball

i mean whatever, im sure ill draft/make the best trades all year and have the best team because I am the Muhammad Ali of fantasy sports, however all I ask is that someone cant do some cheap [censored] at the end of the year to steal the win from my better team. But whatever, I dont think the point of fantasy is to draft a better team than anyone else and make better trades, not to "stream starters" or whatever. But I'm in regardless.

I mean no disrespect at all, since the first time it happpened to me in FBB I was miffed too. But this is like the guy in the $20 home game who thinks checkraising or slowplaying is "dirty."

If there was no start limit you disadvantaged yourself by not doing it. If there was a limit and you can see his pace well behind it you can see this coming. Eitehr way it isn't cheap [censored], but rather just another element of the strategy.

And on the flip side, one can lose a league just as fast streaming starters (blowing up their era and whip, while piling up Ks and Ws)

FWIW last year there was a max innings thing that Bugstud hadn't reached, which is why he wasn't able to do this all year. I think HU is way better than Roto because it's way more fun to just hate some guy for an entire week. In Roto I feel like it's me vs. the world, in HU it's me vs. 1 guy.

I'm in for this obviously, and think it should be $500.

Also HU allows for better prop betting.

i'm in. roto with capped IP is better than HU. HU is great for football, baseball is just perfet for roto though, IMHO.

The Giants are probably going to be mediocre again, and I'm going to need something else to follow until football season starts again. Despite my dearth of post-90's baseball knowledge, I'm down.

So is this thing DOA or are we going to do it? I'll hold the money if necessary.

This is a $500 league, correct? If you are interested at all in participating please pm me. If most of you want to play for less, we'll adjust the buy-in.
