why veganmav is vegan

i am not vegan because i am an animal lover

[/ QUOTE ]
Why then?

[/ QUOTE ]
I still really really want to know this

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm vegan mainly because of the inhumane, and inefficient practices of the meat and dairy industries.

For every quarter-pound hamburger made from rainforest beef, 55 square feet of rainforest are destroyed.

To date, probably the most reliable and widely-accepted water estimate to produce a pound of beef is the figure of 2,500 gallons.

It's also very inhumane and wasteful.

Since male chickens don't lay eggs, they are useless offspring to the egg industry. So all male chicks are unused, and basically thrown away in the vast majority of factory farms.

Below is a picture of a dumpster of thrown away baby chicks, they are just thrown away, usualy alive.

Most animals never go outside, never see day light, and are kept in cages so small they can't turn around.

If you post things like this, I might consider feeling bad about eating meat. I much prefer to ignore the problem and thus pretend it doesn't exist. That's the American way!

the real question is, have you spent any significant amount of time w/a male chicken?

they suck.

so if you had your own self sustaining farm where animals were treated humanely and you could kill them in a way that was humane you would eat meat?

they put all the baby chicks in the dumpster. In the land from which veganmav hails, these are a delicacy.

Is there some sort of cruelty-free meat company? I bet that they'd do pretty well even with higher prices.

Veganman,

I applaud your life style, while I'm sure the numbers are excessive the numbers you give seem impossible. I find the biggest error peta/greenpeace and such have in getting their message across is grossly exagerating the facts, making them seem like alarmists and their information unreliable.

I think we are running out of both.

Alarming percentages of rain forest have been de-forested.

Pennsylvania State University professor of environmental sciences James Alcock, predicts that if deforestation continues unabated, within 10 to 15 years it will reach a “point of no return,” and the entire Amazon rain forest could be wiped out within 40 or 50 years. The Amazon’s destruction would spell drastic changes in the global environment.

Vegan mav, I think you are full of crap. By your standards is it humane to kill millions of rodents, birds, reptiles, and insects that live in fields by dumping pesticides on them? What about running big fat tractors over them? Why is that acceptable?

The simple fact is that we are animals and we need to eat other animals lower than us in the food chain. I'm not willing to spend time and money making chickens and cows comfortable, I just want to eat them so I can stay alive and keep building big muscles that make your girlfriend want to have sex with me.

I have a carton of fresh-laid eggs from my in-laws farm sitting in my fridge right now. They're delicious.

They let the chickens range on their property... Carmelo the rooster keeps his pimp hand strong and all the egg-laying bitches in line.

and what about water? are you seriously going to say we're running out of it?

I try to minimize suffering. #1 I don't support the former, I dumpster dive my food for one, and also, a vegan diet obviously minimizes suffering. Although obviously CSA diet, or home grown food etc would be better.

It's fine that you eat meat etc.

You aren't willing to spend time/money to minimize suffering/waste/pollution. I am willing to spend time and money to minimize those things.

To each his own.

BTW: I don't have a girlfriend, and I never will.

You don't need animal products to get full spectrum of nutrients that are available from plant sources, barring b12 and you only need a tiny bit of that anyways. If you want to make people's girlfriends jealous for a long time, you'd do yourself a great service by eating a diet lower in animal products and higher in unprocessed plant foods. Heart disease is an epidemic in this country and our animal product heavy diets are responsible for a good share of the blame.

Because enviromental and health costs are the burden of the taxpayers. For instance, a huge reason our energy economy has not shifted to cleaner forms or power is because C02 emmiting power plants in the US (we get about 45% of our electricity from coal burning power plants) aren't taxed at all for the carbon they emit into the atmosphere that warms the earth and causes all sorts of health problems.
