\"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
This week's set of shows will be the last new shows for a couple of weeks. The lineup for the week (Forrest, Farha, G, Ferguson, Hansen and Gowen) is impressive and hopefully will be as good as last week's commentators shows.

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
Wow. I probably go broke with Gus's hand there.
Or lose way more than he did. |
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
God damn Gus. Horrible beat.

Flop: 4QJ (two diamonds) Chris checks, Gus checks back Turn: J (offsuit) Chris bets 1,000 (?), Gus calls River: blank Chris bets 3,000, Gus tanks for a while and calls with his trip jacks against Chris's fours full. |

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
I liked the hand where Chris made aces and said he could beat A8 and A2 and Gus said he'd take A2. A2 would have made a straight.

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
Pretty uneventful show overall.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
I flipped between this and the re-run of tonight's HSP episode. Looked like a pretty interesting table. Gus definitely lost the least amount of money on a couple of the hands that I caught.

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
I was wondering if anyone knew what sort of compensation the players get, other than air time? While the show makes a big deal out of the "20K that each person puts up", I'm guessing (possibly incorrectly) that there is at least some sort of compensation.
Thanks. |

Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
The commentator is horrible. It makes my head explode to think that NBC is actually paying him to commentate this show.
Not this show specifically but on other episodes he tries to chime in with unwitty, corny one liners. He adds no actual insight. Part of the show's concept is to let the players talk freely but when one of the players starts an interesting story the commentator talks over him with useless dribble. Perfect timing to try and display your incompetent analysis/color commentary. I never thought that a tv commentator could infuriate me but this one actually did it. I'm even more infuriated by the fact that I'm infuriated by a totally inept commentator showing my lack of any social life. |

[/ QUOTE ] The commentator is Oliver Nejad, perhaps the best poker commentator there is right now. He's also one of the top online short-handed limit players in the world. He plays as high as 300-600 and does very well. He has scaled back his playing lately as he likes commentating and is concentrating on that. I'd tell you who he is (his online name is well-known) but I know he doesn't want to be outed. sorry you don't like him, but I think he's awesome. |

Table Talk
This week, there seems to be excessive table talk. It seems that every hand, players not in the hand are putting the players in the hand on hands, goading the players as they think, and influencing the action way too much. No one at the table has objected yet, but isn't it still poor sportsmanship? Is Phil Hellmuth the only top player that would object to this much table talk?

Re: Table Talk
god I love Jesus. He plays like exactly perfect and he is like the least readable person ever.

[/ QUOTE ] Remember, this isn't a regular poker tournament; its a made-for-TV entertainment vehicle. Therefore, table banter is to be expected and encouraged. I for one found it hilarious when Ted Forrest kept going back and forth between Jesus and Sammy on the JJ vs. AKs hand, encouraging each player not to let the other guy bully him off the pot. |
First TONY G IS A LIAR post!
That is all.

Re: First TONY G IS A LIAR post!
The classic 2050/4100/17 level. They really needed to do colorups on this show, though. Using 25's at 1k/2k is ridiculous. But hey, so is the use of cash bundles, so why not.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree... they've done a good job creating a home game atmosphere by having stakes that no one present is overly concerned with. At the same time they try hard b/c they dont want to look like idiots on TV so the poker is still good. This looks to be a good week of PAD. The only player at the table that seems outclassed is Clonie. It is nothing against her, but I just think that she plays really weak tight and consistently seems really intimidated by her opponents. Isn't she ever going to get used to playing with these people? She has been on multiple televised events, you would think she would be a little more relaxed by now. Btw, she is probably way better than I am, I mean its not like I am talking about Victor Ramdin here.... |
Re: Table Talk
After two or three weeks of solid poker - a donk fest. Jesus excepted.
The talk is bad because they don't say, "Kids don't try this at home." The producers tell the players to yack it up. That kind of talking about hands and strategy in multiway pots is wrong, wrong, wrong. I like the announcer too. So sue me. |
Re: Table Talk
The announcers are silent most of the episodes and let us hear all the table talk. That to me is a sign of a good announcer. Granted, he doesn't add much to the broadcast.

Re: Table Talk
Wow, Clonie makes my head hurt.

Fewer sarcastic comments, less talking over the players. I think he does a very good job now. |

Re: Table Talk
What was going on with that hand between Clonie and Tony?
With the blinds at 150/300, Clonie makes it 900 from the button with AA and Tony calls in the BB with Q6. Flop is Qxx with two spades. Tony checks, Clonie bets 1200, Tony checkraises to 3000, Clonie calls. Pot is now about 8k, Clonie has only 12k behind, Tony covers. Turn is a red K. Tony checks, Clonie thinks and eventually shoves. Tony calls. WTF? 1) If Tony is calling a shove, why did he check the turn? To induce a bluff? Clonie hasn't bluffed once all day. She's the tightest player at the table by a factor of a million. 2) Why was Tony so confused over her bet size? Any pot-sized bet from Clonie will commit 2/3 of her stack, so she might as well shove. She can't even bet 3/4 of the pot, since that's half her stack. Any bet from her is committal, hence her slight overbet of the pot. 3) Why would he put her on spades when she raised PF and bet the flop and turn? Wouldn't she be scared of Tony's checkraise and check behind on the turn looking to catch a spade or an Ace? That hand really sucked and Clonie was lucky to double up in that spot because nobody else at the table pays her off so easily. |
Re: Table Talk
That was one of the worst hands i've seen on tv in a long time.
|
Re: \"Official\" Poker After Dark thread - Week 7
Was it just me, or did Ted Forrest seem butthurt that Tony G lied to him. That was pretty awesome.
|
Re: Table Talk
Tony G. was so sure she had A-J of spades or something only slightly better, that he just couldn't let his pair of queens go. Although, because he called with his Riverdancer (low kicker... thanks Dave Foley),perhaps he was more afraid of being bluffed out by a woman on tv? Calling at the end when a king hit on the river surely looked like a stupid play on his part. I think he was sending a message to Clonie that he won't be bluffed by her, especially on tv.
Clonie played the "I'm just a girl" role quite well, but Tony must know she's at least a half decent player and probably had him when she fired on the river. After that hand, Clonie got over confident and so fixated on passing Jesus for the lead, that she gave away many of her chips by playing weak hands and making poor calls. Thankfully, she eventually got rid of that stupid looking white cowboy hat that covered up her nice blonde hair. You go girl! |

Tourney format with 2050/4100/17 level
Everyone starts with 5000 chips (7x500, 13x100, 5x25, 3x17, 24x1)
Levels: 100 200 150 300 200 400 300 600 500 1000 800 1600 1000 2000 1500 3000 2050 4100 17 2500 5000 500 3000 6000 1000 No coloring up. No betting 1 or 17 chips unless all in or anteed; 1s are only for changing 51 for 51. It is ridiculous for PAD to leave the 25s on the table. Did Clonie get her 50 back from Tony? |
