Phil Laak and Brad Booth on Rounders tonite

We have Brad in-studio for the entire show and Phil joining us on the phone from LA in our interview segment. Lots to talk about with these two including all the televised poker they have been involved with lately.

As always, you can hear the show live here, or archived at my site tommorow evening. We follow the Canucks hockey game tonite, so the show doesn't start untill midnight PST.

If you have any questions you would like to hear either of them answer, post them below. I will ask him if he minds talking about the the hands from the long thread here.

Tuco.

Obviously you should ask Phil Laak to confirm or deny the story from the Commerce cash game/alleged-possible-angle shoot and get his version of events.

Ask about both stories.

Ask brad about Ftp highstakes

Who is his toughest opponents?

Biggest winning/losing session ?

He is considered to be one of the best live NL cashgame players. Where would he rank himself online ?

etc

Not to be rude, but these are the same boring questions that ALWAYS get asked of poker players, and they don't reveal much.

i would be curious to hear either of them speculate on what percentage of the players on high stakes poker this season will still be skilled enough and well-rolled enough to be on the show in five years, versus how many top players will be new blood by then?

And get BB's take on it too, assuming it's not denied by Laak.

Hearing about winning and losing big never gets old. And since about half the posts in this forum is about Ftp highstakes I would think that Im not the only one who would like to know stuff like that..

Re: Phil Laak and Brad Booth on Rounders tonite

I asked Phil before the interview if he wanted to talk about the thread here. He said while he had read it and the OP wasn't really close to what actually happened, he didn't want to talk about it because once you address one false rumor they never seem to stop.

For the record, he told me his side and I found it much more believable than the OP.

Thanks E. Was a fun show to do. We were talking about your forum obviously when giving brad a hard time about the local scene. Before the show we were all reading the thread about him and laughing a bit.

so he told you "his side", but youre not telling it to us? why the hell did you write this sentence, to piss us off? you certainly succeeded.

What's the story behind your beef with him CSC?

Re: Phil Laak and Brad Booth on Rounders tonite

Phil Laak probably doesn't like me (even though he doesn't know me).
Oh well.

Was mostly looking for confirmation/refutation of said story and I guess it's probably refuted in most peoples' minds.

Interesting that he didn't want to address it at all on the show.

Ok... Yes the hand happened.

No, it wasn't 70k he called on the end.

Phil was doing his regular comedic schtick when he said he "should have just called" You've seen him play.
Verbatim: Phil said:

after about 20 seconds:

"maybe I should have just called"

30 more seconds go by

"yeah I should have just called"

Phil reaches into pot to retrieve the chips in excess of the original bet, as if to leave only a call...

... before he could do so the other player called.

Phil scoops with AJ. (The nuts)

Did no one read that post in the other thread?

Re: Phil Laak and Brad Booth on Rounders tonite

I think most saw it.
but it was verified about as much as the 2nd hand story I heard which is practically not at all.

I do believe that this account might be more accurate.

But I'm kind of confused about the part about Phil reaching in to retrieve the chips after so long to just leave only enough chips to call.
Does ANYBODY do this?

After a minute or more you say again, "I should have just called" and then reach in to take your chips back?
This seems really weird.
Almost seems more unrealistic than the version I heard.

89 episodes already....nice work, Tuco.

Zero episodes on limit hold 'em. Boo hiss. (just kidding...that would probably be a pretty damn boring show)

ciao

It wasn't verified but it seemed more believable and seemed to be from a first hand witness rather than second.

Phil's action of attempting to take back the surplus comes off like he's joking about and sounds just like something the character he likes to portray would do. I found it believable because I did something similar recently.

In an 6 way limped pot the flop got checked around. When the turn got checked around to me on the button I muttered, "I guess I have to bet now." I said "20" and before I released the chips, the SB beat me to the pot. I pretended to take the 20 back as a joke, and the dealer immediately admonished me.

Poker is serious business. No joking allowed.

As I said, he didn't want details discussed. I guess I shouldn't have posted that he told me his side. Would really hate to piss you off.
